Free Dessert for a Cause

Kimpton Restaurants of Chicago are pitching in to support “Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day” on September 12, 2014. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel have deemed September 12, 2014 as National Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Day. This year Bear Necessities will be collecting lightly used gym shoes to publicly display on the 14th as a symbol of the thousands touched by pediatric cancer. After the event, the shoes will be donated the non-profit, Share Your Soles.

Now through September 1, each of the Kimpton Restaurants of Chicago – Sable Kitchen & Bar, Atwood Restaurant, 312 Chicago and South Water Kitchen – will be collecting gym shoe donations. For each pair of shoes collected, guests will be given a voucher for a free dessert at any restaurant, for their sweet efforts in helping support Bear Necessities.

Sucking up to your Boss!

Cocktails with coworkers are now carefree! Beginning Monday, August 11, I|O Urban Roofscape, The Godfrey Hotel Chicago – 127 W Huron, invites guests and their colleagues to enjoy summer cocktails al fresco with sweeping views of the Chicago skyline, and without the usual repercussions of a hangover at work. Groups of six or more that make a reservation under their company name and mention the “Sorry, Boss” promotion on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. through the month of September will receive a voucher for their boss to return for free lunch. The head honcho is able to return to I|O Urban Roofscape during lunch (11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) to enjoy a complimentary sandwich or salad and soft drink within two days.

Cooking Class

Class is back in session! Well cooking class that is. Executive Chef Luca Corazzina will be teaching “Scoula 312” at 312 Chicago on the first or second Saturday of every month, August through December. Guests will have the opportunity to learn authentic Italian recipes from Chef Luca, a Padova native, who grew up learning to cook by his mother’s side. A variety of techniques and recipes will be taught, including:

·         The Art of Fish – September 6th at 12pm

·         The Art of Risotto – October 11th at 12pm

·         The Art of Meat – November 8th at 12pm

·         The Art of Holiday Recipes – December 6 at 12pm

Free Meat for a YEAR!

The dog days of summer are upon us, but award-winning restaurant Q-BBQ is ensuring that no one spends them hungry. Q-BBQ offers six types of authentic barbeque sandwiches: brisket, burnt ends, pulled chicken, pulled pork, spicy sausage, and sliced turkey. On Thursday, September 4, Chicago q celebrates their golden anniversary and is sharing their presents with their loyal guests. Beginning on September 4, Chicago q will offer 4 $4 menu items available through Sunday, September 7. All of these menu items feature seasonal ingredients alongside Chicago q favorites.

The four specials will include:

  • Summer Corn and Squash Fritters 
Smoked corn, yellow squash, zucchini and roasted jalapeno peppers fried and served with an avocado dill crème sauce.
  • Pork Skewers 
Pork loin, bell pepper and onion grilled and served atop bourbon peach bbq sauce and garnished with smoked sesame seeds.

Rosh Hashanah Dining

Celebrate Rosh Hashanah with Chef Martial at Bistronomic

Executive Chef/Owner Martial Noguier's chic Gold Coast bistro will offer a celebratory three-course Rosh Hashanah Menu from Wednesday, September 24 through Friday, September 26th, 2014 beginning at 5 p.m. each evening. The menu honoring the Jewish New Year incorporates Chef Martial's signature seasonal and local flavors combined with classic holiday favorites, such as apples and honey. Menu highlights include the Organic Barley Duck Confit Risotto, Prime Beef Short Ribs, and the Fig and Honey Financier. Vegetarian options are offered for each course.

The price for the three-course option is $40, exclusive of tax and gratuity. Or, guests may order dishes on an à la carte basis (individual prices are noted). Meals on Wheels Chicago (MOWC) is pleased to announce the date and line-up for Chicago’s premier culinary event, the Celebrity Chef Ball. It will be held on Friday, November 7 and will feature a select, interactive dining experience with some of Chicago’s best chefs; custom cocktails; silent auction; and entertainment.  The Celebrity Chef Ball will be held in one of Chicago’s newest event spaces, Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan St.).  Proceeds from the event support MOWC’s mission to promote independence for Chicago seniors and individuals with disabilities through meal delivery and home modifications.

·         VIP Chef’s Table -- The VIP Chef’s Table, available for $350 per person, is a seated, interactive dining experience featuring 36 chefs and 12 mixologists from throughout the city.  Guests will enjoy a six-course meal with cocktail pairings plus an assortment of pastry delights.  This unique dining experience features tableside cooking, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmanship of some of Chicago’s finest chefs.  A VIP Chef’s Table ticket also includes entry to the Chef’s Tasting Party.

·         Chef’s Tasting Party—At the Chef’s Tasting Party, guests indulge in over 40 chef stations throughout the venue, sampling small portions of signature dishes and specialty cocktails.  There will also be opportunities to interact with chefs, a silent auction, music, and dancing.   Party tickets are available for $150 per person.

Chicago Gourmet Details!

Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet invites guests to enjoy an endless summer with the city’s epic burger competition – the Hamburger Hop – followed by the official after party, Late Night Gourmet, on Friday, September 26.

The competition will be fierce, the beer will flow, the skyline will sparkle and the burgers will flip high over the flames at this ultimate annual rooftop party. Attendees can mingle with Bon Appétit magazine’s Adam Rapoport and Andrew Knowlton, who will emcee the festivities, and a celebrity panel of judges like Carla Hall from “The Chew”, Lin Brehmer from 93XRT, and Food Network’s Sandwich King Jeff Mauro (2013 People’s Choice Winner), who will bestow the title of Best Burger. Guests also weigh in, sampling 15 juicy burgers built by Chicago’s top chefs and casting their vote to determine the People’s Choice winner. The final participant line-up will be announced soon.

Allen Brothers Steaks will provide the meats, Lagunitas Brewing Company will pour the brews, and DJ Megan Taylor will spin the beats.

Football Season Dining!
