Saturday is World Gin day and while I don’t normally get excited for “insert random thing” Day. I do like gin and appreciate how it’s become more popular in cocktails lately. The resurgence of gin can be seen also by the variety one’s able to order when they go out.
My favorite gin is one I discovered when I was living in London years ago. The “British” gin is Gordon’s in the green bottle. You can’t buy it in the states and when I go over I always bring a bottle or two back. There is something different about this version of Gordon’s I can’t put my finger on that makes it better. I even tried to bring it in by the cases when I opened up the restaurant but still no dice.
Since I can’t have my favorite, I got to a great back up Hendrick’s. The clarity of this is gin and the pairing with cucumber is what makes it good. If there is no cucumber garnish, don’t order it since it won’t be the same and heck maybe just get a whiskey at that point. I’m a gin and tonic kind of guy but if you want a cocktail you can always go martini or gimlet. With it being summer, check out this fun Harbour Punch – who doesn’t get enough punch?
