Feeding Hungry Kids - Triathlon for Share our Strength

I didn’t grow up worrying about where my next meal would come from. As a lover of food, I can’t imagine not being able to have food simply because it’s not available or the heating bill is more important during the winter. My rationale side says – How is this still an issue in 2012? How are people not getting food, let alone our children, in America? We seem to provide help to everyone on the planet when a natural disaster strikes but many of our own go hungry.

With all of this in mind, I was left thinking this past December how can I help? After the second or third request for a donation through email that day, I thought why not run a race of some kind and use that as a vehicle to raise money. I haven’t done something like this since High School when we did walk-a-thons. I reached out to some friends and connected with Share Our Strength. They’re devoted to raising money for childhood hunger and looking to solve the problem as well.

I’ve decided I’m committing to doing the Chicago Triathlon in August to raise money and awareness for Childhood Hunger! I’ve begun swimming, biking and running to get in shape. I’m beginning at a very lazy, couch potato place. I’ve bought a nice bike and all the gear that comes with that. I found a coach to help me survive this decision. What I was hoping is that you might give a little for my effort - One less impulse buy? 2 fewer coffee’s a month? Maybe, $10 a month for 8 months? Ok how about $5 a month?

I have no grand goal or thought of what my racing will raise in dollars for the charity. I’ve never done this before and I’m not going to use too much guilt to get you to think about donating. I’m committed to getting in shape, doing a triathlon and keeping you in the loop throughout the journey.

What do you say - A little spare change for a chance to fight childhood hunger? Here’s my donation page! Thank you for the support.
