Why I Hate New Year's Resolutions!

new years resolutions-saidaonline.jpg

The problem with New Year's Resolutions are that we think about them as short-term solutions to long-term problems. We vow to make drastic changes so that the next year will be much better than the previous.

We've all been there at one point in our lives: we're frustrated with our weight, we're tired of feeling like crap, we're embarrassed at how we look in our clothes and we FINALLY make that commitment to do something about it...TOMORROW.

But why not today? Why are healthy habits so hard to create? Why is it
so hard for us to start something that will drastically change the
quality of our life...for the better?

Is it because working out is boring? Is it because working out hurts?
Is it because eating healthy doesn't always taste as good as eating
food that is bad for you?

Or, is it because habits like eating healthy and staying on a fitness
regiment, if not created, do not have an immediate and negative effect
on our lives? Sure, we all know the long-term effects of not living a
healthy lifestyle but when was the last time you woke up 20lbs. heavier
from eating a double cheeseburger?

Think about it. Typical habits are created out of necessity - for
example, waking up in the morning, brushing our teeth, etc. If we
didn't wake up on time every morning for work, we'd lose our job; if we
didn't brush our teeth everyday, no one would talk to us because our
breath wouldn't be minty fresh.

So, I say this year we think about good habits we want to create and
why we want to create them. Don't think about how this year you'll
workout more or eat healthier; you'll almost always put it off until
tomorrow. Instead, make it specific, like making it a habit to buy
broccoli every week, making dinner at least 5 times a week, packing
your lunch instead of buying it or eating breakfast everyday.

Simple habit changes on a daily basis may not have an immediate effect
on your waistline but will have lasting effects that can have make a
dramatic improvement on the quality of your life for years to come.

So what's your New Habit you'll be creating this year? Let me know, I'd love to hear them!
