The Kitchen adds Sunday Southern-style Gulf Shrimp Boil to their menu

Summer is the perfect time to roll-up-your-sleeves for a Southern-style Gulf Shrimp Boil  

Although y'all won't find a lot of Shrimp Boils in Chicago,The Kitchen (316 N. Clark) is bringing the southern tradition to its River North restaurant for 6 consecutive Sundays, July 29 through September 9, starting at 3 pm.

As a leader in the Real Food movement, The Kitchen Chicago will be treating guests to luscious and wild-caught gulf shrimp from Louisiana’s Anna Marie Shrimp and lobster from Maine’s Buxton Day Boat Fresh.

And you can wash it down with their Pontchartrain Punch, specially created by The Kitchen for their Shrimp Boil. The punch, made from a combination of whiskey, Rainwater Madeira, lemon, honey & orange, pairs well with the meal--but watch out--just like its name--it packs a 'punch.'

At a recent media tasting, we had an opportunity to sample it all--from the hush puppies right down to the Beignets with Lemon Curd. Although the lemon curd is not traditionally served with beignets it added a nice touch. The food was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious.

The Kitchen, located inside a former industrial River North building, offers a trendy, warm, comfortable vibe.  The space has community tables, which accommodate groups of all sizes and a large bar indoors. Outdoors there's an inviting flower-filled patio overlooking Chicago's Riverwalk.

Inside or out, it's the kind of a spot where you can roll up your sleeves and dig in without feeling out of place. No worries, there's plenty of towels available--but if you want a bib you may have to byob.

The Gulf Shrimp Boil includes, a proprietary spice blend, corn, button mushrooms, red baby potatoes, andouille, large gulf shrimp and garlic toast. Guests can order the Gulf Shrimp Boil as an individual entree or family-style servings for the entire table.

Additional menu items include:

  • ·        Castle Valley Mills Hushpuppies | hot pepper honey
  • ·        Beignets | lemon curd
  •          Pontchartrain Punch
