The  competition was hot at last night's Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet's Hamburger Hop 2017.

One of the most popular events on the weeklong calendar of events for Chicago Gourmet's 10th Anniversary is the celebrity chef challenge that pits top chefs against each other to see who makes Chicago's best burger.

This year, as in past years, the event was held on the seductive rooftop of Harris Theater with 15 chefs battling it out to claim bragging rights with guests and judges having the opportunity to taste them all and vote for their favorites.

In opening remarks, Bon Appétit’s editor-in-chief Adam Rapoport, told the crowd that the key to a good burger is simplicity.

It seems the chefs were listening. Compared to past years, 2017 featured less bacon, less pretzel rolls, less cheese and no fried eggs in sight.

And the winners are...

For Show Me Chicago, it came down to two burgers: Dino Tsaknis (David Burke's Primehouse) and Craig Couper's (Michael Jordan's Steakhouse) burgers. After trying both chef's burgers for a second time, just to be sure, we picked Couper's burger for its simplicity--letting the burger, which was cooked to perfection, be the star.
