Play with Food: Foodie T.V. and the Countdown to Easter

First of all, I'm looking forward to seeing ageless raw food restauranteur, Karyn Calabrese, make an appearance on Oprah this coming Monday. This episode with discuss Women Aging Brilliantly with Raquel Welch. I'm turning 40 this year and I will be taking notes. I've dined at many of Karyn's establishments as an accidental raw foodist

Speaking of foodie TV. I happened to catch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. While I'm not very familiar with his work, I think it's great that he has taken on the topic of reforming school lunches. He stands strong against some rather stubborn lunch ladies. What shocked me the most wasn't the liberal use of chicken nuggets but the fact that these kids could not recognize what a potato looked like in it's natural form. If you support Jamie's mission sign his petition.

If Jamie has inspired you to eat healthy food, the Chicago Diner is partying like it's 1983 to celebrate 27 years of meat free dining. This 5-day Anniversary Events starts Monday, March 29 and ends Friday, April 2. To celebrate the Diner will have 5 days of Flashback Specials with 1983 prices. Hello $4.95 sandwiches! On Friday, April 2 look out for free prizes and gifts valued over $2,000. If you've never been to the Diner you are in for a treat. It's one of Chicago's oldest and most loved vegetarian restaurants. Many of their dishes are dairy and gluten free.
Now is the time to get that Easter basket together. There are lots of allergy free options in the form of the always cute Easter Bunny. Mallergies, one of the best resources for food allergy information, has a very extensive list of allergen-free treats including chocolate bunnies, eggs, sweets, candies and a gift box for your family.
If you prefer your Easter Bunnies in raw form check out One Lucky Duck's raw solid dark Chocolate Bunny. Be sure to place your order by Monday, March 29th for domestic ground shipping, or Wednesday, March 31 if you choose express. Each one is crafted by Pure Food and Wine's topnotch pastry chefs, these bunnies are also raw, organic, vegan, and wrapped in festive gold foil.
Lastly I want to remind everyone that while Easter sure is fun it can also be a scary time for those of you (or your kids) who have fatal peanut allergies. The ELL (Eating & Educating Living Life) Foundation has reported some very serious recalls. While we can't always be 100% safe the best thing to do is make purchases from companies that are exclusively allergy-free (such as Glutino, Pamela's Products, etc.).
