Allergies to cacao (the actual bean that is chocolate) are extremely rare. What is probably truer is that there may be an allergy to one or more of the additives from your favorite candy bar such as lecithin, milk, corn syrup, gluten, nuts, flavorings or dyes. Also high quality chocolate has fewer additives. For some, chocolate causes migraines due to the natural properties of theobromine and plenylthylamine. Some avoid chocolate due to it's caffeine content but actually you have to eat A LOT of chocolate to get the same buzz as you would from a cup of coffee. Whatever your reason, you have my empathy. Here are a few alternatives to try out. Sunfood has provided this wonderful recipe, which uses both maca and lucuma powders. No need for an ice cream maker just a good blender or food processor will do. You can find more information about Sunfood Lucuma Powder here.

Most people don't realize there is a completely healthy chocolate available that does not have the additives present in commercial chocolate. There is a raw, unprocessed, raw cacao that has no processed sugars (diabetic friendly), no bad fats, no preservatives nor caffeine. Because it is raw, it has a very high flavanoid content. If fact, just 3 servings a day gives you 10 servings of fruits and vegetables for as little as 90 low-glycemic calories.
