Super Bowl Snackin'

I admit it, I'm not a sports fan unless you consider Pilates to be a sport. Anyway, I do at least know that the Super Bowl is next Sunday and that means it will be a day of Super Food! Rod Morrison of Rocky Mountain Organic Meats informs me that they are having a sale on grass-fed 100% certified organic beef, which is raised and processed according to stringent USDA regulation. Certified organic cattle are raised on grasses from (certified organic) land without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. Click here if you want to know more about where your food comes from. You can order their high quality gluten free burgers, hot dogs, summer sausage, meat sticks and jerky's from their site. Discount code for 20% off purchase price is RM1001. Check out this visual guide to Super Bowl snackin' allergy free style. Sandwiches, nachos with cheese, and wings are all Super Bowl favorites but when you can't eat dairy, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, etc. etc. what do you do?

  • Use big lettuce leaves or red cabbage leaves instead of buns for hamburger meat or sloppy joes. If you must have that hamburger bun you can always pick up GF buns at Rose's Wheat Free Bakery or Whole Foods.
  • Pick up pre-cut veggies or rice chips and serve with guacamole, salsa or hummus. My local grocer, Harvest Time, makes some of the best homemade gaucamole in town.
  • Renalli's in Andersonville has gluten free sandwiches, croutons and pizza.
  • Who doesn't love food on a stick like chicken skewers or kabobs which are usually free of gluten, wheat or dairy.
  • Never met a cupcake I didn't like. Bleeding Heart Bakery has lots of vegan (dairy free) goodies. Swirlz sells gluten free ones too.
  • For the raw foodies attending your Super Bowl party pick up vegan dips, almond pates, gluten free crackers, raw sandwiches on bread made from sprouted grains, cakes, pies and brownies from Karyn's Fresh Corner. Cousins Vitality IV has mini flax pizzas, stuffed mushrooms, tacos, fake n' bacon peppers, wraps, burritos, tamales and "cheese" cake.
  • Once you have our menu in place, check out Barnivore's Vegan Wine and Beer Guide for dairy and gluten free libations.
