It's time for my weekly wrap-up. Here's some interesting tweets I found this week, some are from the many beautiful people mentioned in my Healthy Eaters Who Look Good post. As you can see from their tweets they all walk the walk. Some are vegan, some fancy steak. I do want to include a little disclaimer. I am not a doctor, as I have joked many times before I don't even own a microscope. Please consult your doctor for specific medical advice. Now on to the tweets!
This week I also became aware of
Gluten Free Maps which can help you find a gluten free restaurant in your area.
Wheat and sugar-free enthusiast, Heather Strong is going "sweet potato crazy". Check out her recipe for
Sweet Potato Casserole.
Divvies and the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (
FAAN) are combining forces to sponsor the FAANtastic
Divvies Cookie Contest. Entrants may send in as many cookie recipes as they would like, of course cookies should be free of peanuts, tree nuts, milk or eggs. Grand prize winner will receive a two nights' stay and Waterpark passes for up to four individuals at a Great Wolfe Lodge Resort in the U.S. and up to four round-trip tickets to travel to their Great Wolfe Lodge location of their choice. Check out this
link for more details.
The spirit of the New Year brings a desire for self improvement (or if you just want to burn off those Divvies entry cookies); I wanted to pass on one of my favorite fitness sites. Craig Ballantyne's
Turbulence Training offers a lot of great body weight and cross-training workouts. I find Craig's tips really helpful when I need to add variety to my workouts. Additionally, Craig has some experience with vegan diets. While not confirmed a full-time vegan (dairy-free) he periodically takes vegan "challenges" and blogs about them.
This week
Karyn's Fresh Corner turned 15 this week. I have been a customer since the early days when it was in Roscoe Village and hardly anyone knew about raw food. Talk about
Healthy Eaters Who Look Good, owner
Karyn Calabrese looks amazing at 61. There is going to be another edition to Karyn's growing empire, Karyn's on Green at 130 S. Green (West Loop) is set to open in late January. I can't wait to check it out. Her raw chocolate cupcakes are chasing away my winter blues.
"In fact, if one person is unkind to an animal it is considered to be cruelty, but where a lot of people are unkind to animals, especially in the name of commerce, the cruelty is condoned and, once large sums of money are at stake, will be defended to the last by otherwise intelligent people."
