Sci-Fi/Horror Week: The Elephant Man, Mars Attacks!, The Brood, Tetsuo

Another great week of genre events in the city includes screenings of: The Elephant Man, Come to Daddy, Color Out of Space, Silence of the Lambs, The Brood, Disco Godfather, Mars Attacks!, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, The Hitch-Hiker, a black-and-white version of Parasite (!), and 24 hours of b-movies at B-Fest.

GRETEL & HANSEL - (through Feb. 12th) Directed by Oz Perkins (The Blackcoat's Daughter), the original Brothers Grimm fantasy is spun into much darker territory for a tale of heavily atmospheric, occult horror. COLOR OUT OF SPACE - (through Feb. 13th) Daily at 9:50pm; midnight Friday and Saturday. The long-awaited directorial return of Richard Stanley (Dust Devil, Hardware) is finally here with a dazzling, ultra vivid, sci-fi horror film starring Nic Cage and Joely Richardson. Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, a family moves to a remote farm for a quiet life, which quickly turns into a terrifying nightmare after a meteorite lands nearby and an extraterrestrial organism begins to infect both their bodies and minds. DISCO GODFATHER [35mm] - (Feb. 10th at 7pm) The Chicago Film Society presents this 1979 blaxploitation film starring Rudy Ray Moore. An ex cop-turned-disco club owner wages war on drug dealers after losing his nephew to angel dust. PARASITE - (through Feb. 13th) Director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Memories of Murder, Snowpiercer) is a master at his craft and it's worth seeking out his entire body of work.
