Cinepocalypse 2019 Blasts Chicago with Genre Film Insanity

Cinepocalypse 2019 is back for another incredible week of stimulating cinema! Known for bringing a ton of badass genre films to Chicago's historic Music Box Theatre for a handful of years now, the festival (originally titled Bruce Campbell's Horror Film Festival) has brought an impressive roster of horror celebrities and genre directors, as well as highly talented independent filmmakers and actors.

The environment at Cinepocalypse is very low-key and welcoming, so all special guests and genre fanatics can hang out together as MOVIE FANS. There will be special areas for photo ops and autographs, so I personally do not approach a guest if they are not in those designated areas (just for the sake of being respectful, so they can relax and walk around as easily as fans do).

I attended the entire festival last year and had the honor of being on the jury panel for the short films. Among all the film fests I've ever attended, Cinepocalypse was a whole different beast and was one of the absolute BEST weeks of my life. Highly recommended! (Unfortunately, due to sudden serious health issues, I will not be able to attend this amazing event, or any others for possibly the rest of the year. Devastating, to say the least.)

CINEPOCALYPSE 2019 will be held June 13th-20th (Thursday to Thursday) at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue, Chicago, IL 60613. Full festival, all access passes are $175 GA / $150 MBT Members, while a 4-day, all access pass will be $125 GA / $100 MBT Members. Films will also have individual tickets for sale, space permitting.

cinepocalypse-posterThis year, the jury features president will be director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down, 8MM, St. Elmo's Fire)!

Special guests include:

  • Michael Ironside (70mm screening of Total Recall)
  • Glenn Danzig (Directorial debut screening Verotika)
  • Joe Bob Briggs (“How Rednecks Saved Hollywood” 2-hour event)
  • Pollyanna McIntosh (directorial debut screening of Darlin')
  • Members of GWAR (retrospective and live performances by BälSäc and Sleazy P. Martini live riffing to Rock 'n Roll Nightmare)
  • Lucky McKee (Kindred Spirits screening)
  • Michael Lehmann (Airheads 35mm screening)

MANY MORE filmmakers, cast, and crew will be in attendance! World premieres! Countless Q&A sessions! After parties! TWO shorts film blocks! A Child's Play speakeasy! Beer, wine, and snacks! See the SCHEDULE for all links to each film, info on the parties, short film titles, and more!

Screenings include: VEROTIKA, BELZEBUTH, PUNTA MUERTO (DEAD END), FLATLINERS, THE MUTE, VILLAINS, MOPE, GWAR vs. ROCK ‘N ROLL NIGHTMARE, DEADCON, GWAR vs. CINEPOCALYPSE, THE SWERVE, TOTAL RECALL, GHOST KILLERS vs. BLOODY MARY, THE LODGE, ACHOURA, BLISS, ATTACK OF THE DEMONS, KINDRED SPIRITS, HOT DOG... THE MOVIE, DARLIN’, SATANIC PANIC, WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE!, TAMMY AND THE T-REX, THE LURKER, CULTURE SHOCK (“Into the Dark,” Episode 10), THE LAST TO SEE THEM, ANNABELLE COMES HOME, AIRHEADS.

Please trust that you will not be disappointed and it is a very worthwhile trip! My mind is still blown from last year's fest. Enjoy the madness!

Festivities are presented by ALTER, a horror brand from Gunpowder & Sky that curates, develops, and distributes award-winning short films, features, and series. Recent projects include Summer of 84 and CAM.
