The 54th Chicago International Film Festival is back for another round of screenings of over 150 new films from 50 countries. Presented by Cinema/Chicago, the festival runs October 10th-21st, 2018. The delicious part saved for those who crave the darker, more frightful side of cinema is their After Dark program.
This genre program offers Chicago premieres of both short films and features from various countries. Just to mention a few:
- OVERLORD (USA) - A horror-thriller directed by Julius Avery and produced by J.J. Abrams. It follows a group of American paratroopers dropping into Nazi-occupied France on the eve of D-Day. They come across a secret Nazi lab where bizarre, terrifying, supernatural experiments are being held.
- PIERCING (USA) - Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother) directs this horror thriller / S&M black comedy about the shifting power of balance between an escort and the psychopath who hires her. Based on a novel by Ryu Murakami, it stars Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night) and Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak).
- LIVERLEAF (Japan) - Director Eisuke Naitô adapted the manga telling the tale of a high school girl who is being targeted by sadistic bullies. In this bleak, bloody thriller, the girl's fear turns to vengeance once the bullies target her family and she hunts them down, empowered with a near invincible wrath.
There will also be a tribute held for director William Friedkin (The Exorcist) on Monday, October 15th at 6pm! Includes a screening of the new documentary, Friedkin Uncut. Director Francesco Zippel will also be in attendance.
Screenings are located at AMC River East 21, 322 E. Illinois, Chicago, IL 60611. Festival hotline: 312-332-FILM (3456). After Dark showings run after 10pm daily.
