Otherworld Theatre Company Grand Opening

Otherworld Theatre Company Grand Opening

Chicago-area fans of science fiction and fantasy will soon have a new place to interact with others in the community, as Otherworld Theatre Company will be opening their doors on July 14th, 2018.

This venue (3914 N. Clark) will be dedicated to live performances of these genres with a pay-what-you-can plan to allow all fans to enjoy these experiences. A few blocks north of Wrigley Field, this location (which once housed Public House Theatre and Live Bait Theatre) contains two stages, 120-seat main stage, a 40-seat black box, a bar, and a lobby.

They've got an exciting plan to make full of use of the space outside of theatrical productions by creating a community spot for Sci-Fi and Fantasy fans to enjoy the culture in one place.

They plan to host activities such as:

  • Game nights
  • Trivia nights
  • Cosplay meetups
  • Premiere viewing parties
  • Daytime classes like stage combat workshops led by Resident Fight Director Kai Young!

We are extremely proud to create a space that celebrates Science Fiction and Fantasy performance and provide a community hub for fans of all stripes to explore their passions for these genres and express themselves in a safe and inviting environment. Whether you are mildly interested in Science Fiction and Fantasy or a diehard fan, we welcome you to Otherworld Theatre to enjoy these stories together,” said Tiffany Keane Schaefer, Otherworld Theatre founding artistic director.

Otherworld Theatre Company is a non-profit arts organization founded in June 2012. They believe in using high-quality storytelling to celebrate the depth of the human imagination and bring theatrical experiences to the sci-fi/fantasy genre. They've hosted Juggernaut Film Festival, an annual sci-fi/fantasy fest, at the Music Box Theatre, as well as various reading series, convention panels, galas, and more. Previous productions include The Rogue Aviator, A Princess of Mars, Gone Dark, and Fight Quest.

I am very excited for this chance to have a dedicated theater space for Otherworld Theatre, especially in such a prominent location. Otherworld has been putting out quality entertainment, but to have a facility like this will just allow for an even higher level of quality. More importantly, having this dedicated space for such a unique purpose–as this will be the only theater in the country dedicated to science fiction and fantasy–is sure to not only draw a large local following, but act as a tourist attraction for visitors. This will become a space where I will end up spending a lot of my idle time,” said Otherworld board member Rhys Read.
