This weekend has a nice selection of options around the city, from movies to annual events like Free Comic Book Day and Chicago Zine Fest. The fine folks in Elgin are celebrating their 5th Anniversary for Monster Mash-Up, where there's no time to wait for October to party like it's Halloween. No complaints there!

With new Twin Peaks episodes on the way (can anyone believe this dream come true is happening? “It is happening again.”), the Music Box Theatre has been paying serious tribute to *everything* David Lynch lately. The huge retrospective series may have ended, but the new documentary, David Lynch: The Art Life, begins its run tonight!


DAVID LYNCH: The Art Life - (May 5th-11th) Highly acclaimed documentary featuring David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man) as he divulges personal stories reflecting on his art, music, earlier films, and unique outlook on the world. CINEYOUTH FILM FESTIVAL - (May 4th-6th) A free all ages film festival screening over 70 films by filmmakers aged 22 and under from all over the world. Presented by Cinema/Chicago (parent organization of the Chicago International Film Festival), the projects screened will include documentaries, local films, and experimental visions. APOCALYPSE TWINS - (May 4th-6th & 11th-13th) A Dead Whale Productions presents a stage performance of two survivors fighting over things like a dead monkey, who also encounter a mysterious radio transmission. STRANGEST THINGS! The Musical - (Extended to run April 14th-May 13th!) The group behind Ladies Night of the Living Dead brings Strangest Things! The Musical. They're also screening T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Monster Mash-Up logo on it for free if you bring your own items! Bloody Reads - Arthur Machen - Bucket O' Blood is hosting another “Bloody Reads” literature event at 9pm on Sunday, May 7th. The topic of discussion will be about author Arthur Machen.
