Halloween Prevails at the Maleficium Dark Art Exhibition

This Saturday, November 14th, the 5th Annual Maleficium Dark Art Exhibition returns to the Kosart Gallery in Westmont, Illinois for a massive display of Halloween and dark-themed works by a wide scope of great talents. Hosted and curated by special effects artist and owner of the gallery, J. Anthony Kosar, this show features artwork by over 60 award-winning artists!

J. Anthony Kosar (founder of Kosart Studios and Gallery) was the Season 4 Champion on Face Off, and is an award-winning artist specializing in Fine Art, Illustration, Sculpture, Creature Design, Make-Up FX, and more through his own company, Kosart Effects Studios, LLC. He also conceptualizes and sculpts Halloween masks for Zagone Studios, among many other projects at hand, not to mention teaching FX art classes through his Kosart Atelier School for Entertainment Arts.

Work shown throughout the gallery includes pieces by Clive Barker, Greg Hildebrandt, Jordu Schell, J. Anthony Kosar, Thomas Kuebler, Joshua Hoffine, Dina Cimarusti, Chad Savage, Terry Wolfinger, Casey Love, Tate Steinsiek, Dug Stanat, and many more!

The Maleficium opening and artist reception is on Saturday, November 14th from 3:00pm to 10:00pm at Kosart Studios & Gallery, 760 Burr Oak Drive, Westmont, IL 60559. Wine and cheese will be served (ID required for drinking alcohol) and costumes/creative attire is optional. A raffle charity will be held at 10pm to benefit Little Friends, Inc. Raffle winners will go home with books, prints, masks, figurines, and more donations from the artists! This event is free, all ages, and open to the public. (Directions) All art will be for sale unless otherwise noted. Credit cards accepted.

The H.P. Lovecraft-inspired photograph collaboration between J. Anthony Kosar and horror photographer Joshua Hoffine will also be on display at the show! The image stars creature character actor Doug Jones (Hellboy, Buffy, Falling Skies, Hocus Pocus, Pan's Labyrinth) with special effects by the Kosart Studios team. Several “Deep Ones” sculptures from the shoot will also be on display!

Exhibit runs November 14th through December 18th. After the reception, please call to schedule future appointments at 630-310-8353. Art will be available for online viewing after the show at kosartgallery.com.

“Maleficium” is Latin for “mischief” when describing black magic and the dark arts.
