Weekend Bets: The Beyond [35mm], It Follows, Dead Walk Fest

The horror lineup for this weekend is great as usual, including a midnight delight courtesy of Grindhouse Releasing... A 35mm print of The Beyond! Good news for horror fans regarding It Follows, which is now opening in theaters near you. Spring has been extended a few more days at Facets, and a nice zombie festival helps round out the weekend in Chicago horror.

The Beyond [35mm] - Lucio Fulci's 1981 Italian cult horror film arrives at the Music Box Theatre in all its 35mm glory thanks to the great folks at Grindhouse Releasing. Spring - Any body horror film containing lines like, “I've got a medical condition” is sure to bring something interesting to the table. A boy backpacking through Europe meets a beautiful girl who harbors secrets that may be too much for anyone to handle. “A beautiful, fluid genre-bender as well as an unforgettable romance of mythical proportions.” This sci-fi/horror romance gone wrong screens Saturday at 6pm & 8pm and Sunday at 4:45pm, 6:45pm, and 8:45pm. ItFollowsIt Follows - The horror film that got everyone to stop talking about The Babadook and gush about even more original scares screens at the Music Box Theatre through April 2nd. Each Friday, a new episode with a horror celebrity guest goes online at Ariescope.com as they snuggle up in sleeping bags and talk about their deepest fears. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Live action stage adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel. The Addams Family: The Musical - Still creepy and kooky, the classic, charmingly macabre family is back with an original tale to tell. The Bizarro Hour - G-Mart Comics presents a free storytelling event by “the weirdest authors in the Midwest” from 8:00pm-10:00pm on Saturday at 2641 N. Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647. The event will be streaming live from this channel.

Trapped in a Room with a Zombie - Take 11 friends (or even go solo and meet in another group) to be locked up in a room with a snarling zombie in this horror-themed room escape adventure. Every 5 minutes, the chain holding it back loosens just a bit. Your group's objective is to search the room for clues and find a key. Once all the riddles are solved, freedom awaits. Race against the clock (one hour's time) and enjoy the experience. This interactive event is not intended to be scary. Ages 14 and up.
