The annual Sci-Fi Spectacular event in Chicago is back and the lineup is better than ever! Twice a year, Movieside puts on a festival with an all-night movie marathon. The Massacre brings 24 glorious hours of horror in October, while the Sci-Fi event is usually 14-16 hours (save for the one beautiful time it went 24 hours). These marathons are a communal experience that, for me personally, blow any other moviegoing experience out of the water. It feels like a big party with a thousand or more of your friends.
This Saturday, April 12th, the 16-hour movie marathon commences at the Patio Theatre, 6008 Irving Park Road. Special Guests include Doug Jones (Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan's Labyrinth) and Kyra Schon (the iconic little zombie girl Karen Cooper in Night of the Living Dead). The celebrities will be present for Q&As, meeting fans, taking photos, and signing autographs for free. Yes, for FREE. However, the stars will also have items available for purchase from their tables. Kyra will be selling some of her handmade jewelry!
Schedule (Please note - the films marked 35mm are confirmed. Possibly more!):
- 10:00am - Doors open for the early risers
- 10:15am - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Hush episode discussion with Doug Jones in person)
- 11:00am - Stereo (David Cronenberg film)

At one point, there was mention of possible late night bus rides from the festival to the Irving Blue line stop from 1am-5am by the good folks at Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tours, which would be nice.
As you can see here, Doug Jones is already showing the love on the Facebook event page!
