Weekend Movie and Art Events: Rare Screenings, Monster Marathon

Now that the weather is warming up a little, the temptation to leave the house will be strong. In case anyone needs more reasons than nice weather to go out, keep reading. This weekend promises more movie fun (preferably in support of indie theaters), ongoing art shows, and a few more spooks here and there.

William Friedkin's Sorcerer (1977) was very controversial in its time and has rarely been screened. If you missed it before, these next two weekends are your best bet. The Music Box Theatre will show this recently restored film (by Friedkin) at midnight March 21st & 22nd and March 28th & 29th. Info HERE.

dark crystalOn Saturday, March 22nd, The Patio Theater will screen The Dark Crystal (1982) at 4:30pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are only $5! Can't beat that. It's a brilliant film which seems to breathe a world of creativity from every single frame. Info HERE or join the Event Page. Big fan? There's a new 273-pg. book releasing in June that is currently available for pre-order. Look out for Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: The Novelization to appear in a store near you.
