The Midway Drive-In still needs help in order to stay open this year. Digital projectors cost somewhere around $125,000 and the owners (Mike and Mia Kerz, Flashback Weekend) are calling on fans to help them in the home stretch to keep this establishment afloat. Paramount Pictures is no longer going to issue film prints, therefore switching to an expensive digital means is impossible to avoid. However, if all else fails, they are currently researching other digital options, but a digital projector would display the best screening quality.
Their goal is to raise $40,000 (just a fraction of the amount actually needed) by April 1st, 2014. I have gushed about the Midway Drive-In here on The Chicago Creepout several times before, a few which can be found HERE and HERE. But let's get to the meat of the matter. Time is of the essence!
To donate, there are several options:
- Visit the Midway website to make a Paypal donation of $10, $25, or $50 directly.
- Pay by check or credit card by contacting Mike or Mia Kerz at (847) 647-3124.
- Write firstname.lastname@example.org to send a payment.
The Midway Drive-In is a wonderful place to watch movies (especially horror films!) throughout the summer and early fall seasons. While the memories are there, we'd like to keep making more memories at this fantastic drive-in for years to come. Most importantly, please spread the word around even if you are not able to donate. They also have a Facebook page which contains regular updates.
Thanks for any and all help in sharing this urgent news. Long live the drive-in!!!
