This weekend's got plenty of genre-bending mayhem for all types of horror and science fiction movie fans. Zombies, Godzilla, Dinosaurs, Robots, King Kong, Dr. Who, and even Elvira will be sure to entertain.
Tonight, get your zombie fix at Doc Films with Umberto Lenzi's wild zombie gorefest, Nightmare City in 35mm! Also known as City of the Walking Dead, this one is a bit crazy... Viewers need to know how to suspend their disbelief! Sure, you already do that because zombies aren't real. Well, suspend it even higher, okay? Five dollars and you are good to go!
Saturday, there's yet another chance to get your classic monster fix over at the Portage Theater for “Size Matters Saturday.” This event will have the usual fun stuff going on, with vendors in the lobby selling neat collectibles, snacks at the concessions, and FOUR movies! Pretty sweet for ten bucks. ($5 for children) Speaking of kids, prize for the winner of a Monster Robot coloring contest will be awarded after the second film. Film Schedule: 1:00pm - King Kong vs. Godzilla, 3:25pm - Varan the Unbelievable, 5:30pm - Tobor the Great, 7:30pm - Dr. Who and the Daleks
Saturday, it's time for more midnight fun at Facets Night School with their current session titled, “Sh!thouse Cinecircus.” Jef Burnham will host a lecture and post-film discussion called, “Of Lasers and Loincloths: Genre Hybridization in Yor, the Hunter from the Future.” Directed by Andy Warhol and Antonio Margheriti, this film is a steamy potpourri of science fiction elements, which include robots, mummies, dinosaurs, and a cave man who apparently has a strong penchant for both genocide and the ladies. In either order. As usual, entry is only $5, arrive early for grindhouse cult cinema trailers, the lecture, giveaways, essays, and post-discussion. 1517 W. Fullerton Ave. More INFO.
Sunday the 29th, call in to Francy and Friends on BlogTalkRadio to chat and hear an interview with Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) thanks to hosts Francy, Jason Hignite of HorrorHound Weekend, and Chicago's spookiest magician, Ron Fitzgerald!
