There are so many things going on this weekend that I almost didn't blog about it. What fun is that? More than likely, most of my readers already know about these events. For those of you still scratching your heads in wonder at what the heck is going on this weekend for a horror fiend, please read on!
Right now, G-Fest is in full swing, and the Godzilla madness continues on throughout Sunday. I hit on this subject and the movies being screened in my last post. If old school rubber monsters are your thing, this is not a festival to miss!
TERROR IN THE AISLES 11 is a huge event taking place tomorrow, Friday, July 13th, 2012. Fans' 20+ year wait to see the extended cut, aptly titled Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut will finally come to fruition at the Portage Theatre. Many horror and creature lovers will flock to this festival, all in complete support for Clive Barker's dream to come true. Along with Nightbreed, we'll see Hellraiser, Candyman, and three great film shorts. Star Anne Bobby will be present for a Q&A, as well as restoration director Russell Cherrington. Click here for tickets.
Another cool thing, if you missed Nightbreed: Cabal Cut on Friday, there is a second chance Saturday night! Once again, it's at the Portage, but will be the only feature at midnight. Russell Cherrington will be there for Q&A, however, which is a great thing. For detailed info, see this post.
I'm kind of crazy excited for the premiere of Manborg, presented by the Chicago Cinema Society at the Logan Theatre. These are the wild kinds of movies to see with a late-night crowd. You should all try to make this one. It's a bizarre tribute to those wacky '80s VHS Sci-Fi and quarter arcade games many of us used to spend hours entertained by as kids. Astron-6 Video, y'all. Check out the official trailer HERE. This will screen at 11pm on both Friday and Saturday!
Flashback Weekend presents a screening of Jaws at Muvico Theatres Rosemont 18. The original 35mm negative was digitally restored frame-by-frame with sound in 7.1 surround sound. 8pm on Friday and Saturday; 4pm Sunday.
RoboCop screens at midnight at the Music Box Theatre! This futuristic, sci-fi thriller is a classic. See it in 35mm this weekend! Given the crime rate in Chicago this year, I think it's about time we get our own RoboCop!
Movies in the Park series - Ghostbusters will play in Rosedale Park at dusk. Free to all. 6312 W. Rosedale Ave.
Wilmette Theatre hosts a double feature of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Friday the 13th (1980) with a 2-for-1 price tag. Chicago TV host "Undead Johnny" will host RHPS at 9:30pm with performances by a live cast through the World of the Weird Monster Show shadowcast. Friday the 13th screens shortly after. Tickets are $10 for whole event, but you can buy Rocky Horror prop kits at the door for $3 each or 2 for $5. www.wilmettetheatre.com
Up for a dark art show? A Midsummer's Nightmare Art Gallery Reception will be held at the 1901 Gallery/Theatre from 8pm to midnight. It's free, so come out for some artwork, a DJ, and a fashion show. Must be 18+.
Live near Kankakee, IL? Night of the Living Dead screens at Classic Cinemas Meadowview Theatre at midnight on Friday. It's their first midnight show, so if you're close by, come out and support! Info HERE.
