Nightbreed / Terror in the Aisles Event Recap

July 13th, 2012 was a night to remember. We fans knew in our hearts that this would be the case. History was being made, and we were all a part of it. Friday the 13th at the Portage Theater. History! Restoration Director Russell Cherrington and Nightbreed star Anne Bobby (“Lori”) were on hand to answer questions by fans, and were interviewed by Brian Kirst of BigGayHorrorFan.com about spreading awareness on the importance of this film getting the proper restoration treatment for an extended cut to be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

The three features were Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut, Hellraiser, and Candyman. Scattered throughout the night's viewings were three fun film shorts: Jason Coffman's Tape, Don Thacker's Weapon, and Lowcarbcomedy's Hellraiser.

After a 20-year wait, we finally got to see 45 minutes of the missing footage from Nightbreed. Due to it being a rough cut, the footage wasn't pristine, but that was to be expected. Some of the extra scenes really helped push the story along, while others were rather obvious why they'd been cut. The version we saw here in Chicago was different than what was shown in LA not long before. Big thanks to Russell Cherrington for continually working on this cut until it is the movie everyone wants.

At some point, I was able to snag an autograph from Anne Bobby, who was signing for free. I decided not to ask her any questions, as she had a bad case of laryngitis that night. It's admirable that she's volunteering for Occupy Midian. Can't blame her, as her character's central role got cut to shreds, leaving "Lori" to have a seemingly minor part. Let's hope everything works out as planned, and we get this film the release it deserves.
