Another weekend in the spooky city is upon us and there are a few enlightening things to do. Whatever the choice may be, try to make sure you're somewhere that has very good air-conditioning! This kind of heat is no joke. In fact, if you think heat stroke is happening to you, head over to one of these cooling centers. There's always the grocery store or public institutions as well!
My top two picks for the weekend are:
Chicago's Zombie Army Productions is throwing a huge annual party TONIGHT (Friday) otherwise known as the Zombie Prom at Vision Nightclub. I mentioned this a few posts ago, but certainly a friendly reminder is of utmost importance? Keep updated and check out the videos to see what to expect at zombiepromchicago.com. Come decked-out in your best dead fashion and enjoy a free buffet. Contests, prizes, a live zombie band and zombie DJ. Of course, even the undead must obey the laws and be above the age of 21. One needn't a date for this, as it's just a really huge zombie party that must be seen to be believed! Cameras are probably a very good item to bring along.
Saturday, there is a big night of exploitation chaos going on over at Facets for their second night of Night School Session 11. Bruce Neal hosts "Normal Love from Hell: The Innocence of Bettie Page and Alucarda." Watch mind-bending visions from Normal Love (1963 with a cast including Andy Warhol and Tiny Tim!) and various Bettie Page exploitation shorts from 1955.
SÉANCE! Between the films, Bruce Neal will hold a public séance attempting to invoke the spirit of Bettie Page herself! The Crippled Masters Orchestra and a video projection ritual will accompany the event.
After that, classic Mexican horror film Alucarda (1977) screens! It's an interesting movie that mixes horror, nunsploitation and witchery all into one fiery bowl of insanity.
Event begins at midnight, but come early for good seats and cult trailers. Only $5 and that includes lectures and pamphlets to take home. 1517 W. Fullerton. For all info and full Night School schedule, go here.
