Photos of Chicago College Basketball Seniors

Things have been light here over the past weekend because I was at MIT’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston this weekend. I have some new ideas from the conference that I’m going to use in the analysis during the off-season here, but obviously there was a lot to talk about over the weekend. I’ll... Read more »

UIC Season Epilogue

Jeremy Buttell’s presence in the paint will be missed next season at UIC. It is difficult for things to end. And even if that thing has been difficult, trying and unfortunate, it doesn’t really help the pain. Fans of UIC will learn that lesson now as possible the worst season in Flames history ended with... UIC loses at Milwaukee, Flames to play Panthers in Horizon League Tournament

Jeremy Buttell scored 16 points and grabbed 6 boards, but the Flames fell to Milwaukee at the Pavilion in their final regular season game. Apparently two wins is the maximum amount of prosperity the UIC Flames can stand at any one time. The Flames had a chance against Milwaukee to get their first three-game winning... Read more »

Photos from UIC vs. Milwaukee

Photos from the first half of the game between UIC and Milwaukee on Saturday. It is Senior Day at the Pavilion. Spencer Stewart, Jeremy Buttell, Kris Harris and Chris Buchanan were honored before the game started. Lots of photos of Stewart, but all of the seniors are featured. Note: At the end of the season... Bracket Busters bring Chicago mixed results

The BracketBusters game brought Loyola and UIC different results. Even though both were on the road, the Flames got a road win at Missouri Valley Conference bottom-feeder Evansville, while the Ramblers couldn’t handle the inside game of Creighton in Omaha. Robo Kreps (left earlier this season against DePaul) hit a shot with 4.4 seconds remaining... Read more »

Tempo-free oddities

How Michael Thompson manages to play all those minutes while throwing himself at the basket like this is tough to figure out. He’s a tough guy. Since I already wrote about tempo-free predictions earlier today I thought I would continue the discussion with some interesting notes about player statistics that you can find by going... UIC stuns Oregon State

When Craig Robinson agreed to play UIC at the Pavilion, he probably thought he’d be getting a nice game in the city where his coaching career began. As the Flames struggled to a 1-6 record to start the season, including a six game losing streak, it probably looked even sweeter. And then Wednesday night happened... Read more »

DePaul defeats UIC in cross-city battle

K.C. Robbins let his emotions get the better of him in a competitive city rivalry game and it cost UIC dearly in their game at DePaul. The Blue Demons won 77-56 at Allstate Arena on Sunday. Robbins was ejected from the game after a flagrant foul with 5:49 remaining in the first half and the... Read more »

UIC plus-minus observations

Continuing my recent look at plus-minus statistics, here are some thoughts about the UIC Flames. The Flames have struggled to a 1-5 record and have yet to defeat a Division I team, but there are some bright spots when you look into plus-minus statistics. Note: Check here for previous looks at Loyola and Northwestern. This... Read more »

Strong defense, questionable offense the calling card of the Flames

Robo Kreps is struggling with being the focal point of the Flames offense. Jimmy Collins appears to have found the identity of his UIC team. Youth, energy and intensity abound on the Flames and they are going to use it to become a stalwart defensive team. The question though is can UIC score enough points... Read more »
