Big East thinking about expanding... Again

Update: The first version of this post incorrectly stated Villanova’s intentions. Of course divining the Big East’s intentions gets even harder then. Expansion talk is once again heating up in the Big East. This time it’s an article in the Boston Globe by Mark Blaudschun that speculates about a whole heck of a lot of... Read more »

DePaul's Melvin deserves to be Big East Rookie of the Year

At this point it’s pretty obvious that Cleveland Melvin has had an excellent freshman season for DePaul. Since he got injured the Blue Demons haven’t been the same team. Well today the All-Big East teams were announced and Melvin was the lone unanimous vote getter for the Big East All-Rookie Team. We won’t know if... Read more »

St. John's defense chokes DePaul

The past few games the DePaul offense had been steadily progressing, but Wednesday night against St. John’s was a harsh reversal of course. A veteran Red Storm team didn’t allow the Blue Demons to get many open looks inside and clamped down on every DePaul player besides Cleveland Melvin. The result? A 76-51 road loss.... Read more »

You thought DePaul's Big East streak was bad...

Last night Division III Caltech ended a 26-year, 310-game Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference losing streak. The Beavers beat Occidental 46-45 for their first victory in conference since January 23, 1986.  It was the season finale for Caltech which finished 5-20 overall. Check out this New York Times feature about the team for more. (h/t... Read more »

5 Questions with Pico from Rumble in the Garden

St. John’s blog East Coast Bias has moved to new SB Nation digs over at Rumble in the Garden, but that didn’t prevent Pico from stopping by to give some thoughts about the Red Storm before they take on DePaul tomorrow at Carnesseca Arena. Brian from VUHoops.com was kind enough to answer some questions. Unfortunately he won’t be getting any tempo-free goodies from me, because Blue Demons... Read more »

DePaul will prove it belongs in Big East moving forward

Tonight’s game between DePaul and Providence is big for a number of reasons. There’s a lot of history in this game even though these two teams have only played 28 times. For one, the Blue Demons are continuing their quest to try and avoid a dubious fate – losing every regular season Big East game.... Read more »

Tempo-free conference aerials

Basketball State has some great statistics on it. I use it a lot when doing historical research, but one of the fun things it has for the current season are pretty graphical tempo-free aerials. For instance, here’s the one for the Great West. Why lead with that one? Well, I just want to prove that... Read more »

Three links you should read

While you try and recover from the fact that DePaul lost to West Virginia by just two points here are a few links for you to check out that I’ve found particularly interesting. Also, congrats to Cleveland Melvin. After his 17-point, five rebound, two block day he seems well on his way to taking the... Read more »

Q&A with Casual Hoya about Georgetown

Things never get any easier in the Big East and thus DePaul has a New Year’s Day date with destiny in Washington, D.C. The Georgetown Hoyas have the same record in the conference, 0-1 after a 69-55 loss to Notre Dame, as the Blue Demons do and they’re not happy about it. Can DePaul take... Read more »
