Third annual All-Chicago College Basketball Teams

Thompson was the heart and soul of the Northwestern team that tied the school record with 20 wins and reached the quarterfinals of the NIT. He averaged 15.9 ppg and 4.3 assists per game while finishing 13th in the nation in minutes percentage. He never came off the court and he'll be super difficult for Northwestern to replace next season.
With the season complete it’s time for one of my favorite posts, the All-Chicago College Basketball teams. I’ve taken the five teams around the city and compressed them into the 10 players that stood out the most during the season. There were some tough calls, especially on the second team, but I think these are... Read more »

Chicago College Basketball's All-Big Ten Teams

A lot has already been said about the Big Ten teams. Heck, everyone has selected one. (Two of the better ones you’ll find are at UMHoops.com and Sippin’ On Purple – if only for the award names.) Also, you won’t find any third team here. The league is only 11 teams deep, why do we... Read more »

Horizon League Teams via Player Ratings

So I was perusing the APBRMetrics forums looking for some interesting research in college basketball, because what else would I do with some free time in my day, and I stumbled across NCAA Player Ratings. I think the work that Statman is doing is very impressive and it just so happens that he recently posted the player... Read more »

McCammon wins Sixth Man of the Year in Horizon League

The Horizon League Tournament starts tomorrow and I’ll have full coverage of it tonight, but first the league awards were announced this afternoon. Cleveland State’s Norris Cole was named the conference’s Player of the Year. It’s an award he richly deserves. Though if they wanted to give it to Matt Howard of Butler (with a... Read more »

Carl Montgomery and Cleveland Melvin win awards

They both have the initials C.M., but Cleveland Melvin and Carl Montgomery are very different. One is a freshman on a Big East team, the other is a senior on a Great West Conference team. Still, they share something in common besides their initials this week as both won weekly awards from their respective conferences.... Read more »

Melvin tops Big East freshman again

DePaul’s Cleveland Melvin won his second consecutive Big East Rookie of the Week after good games against Cincinnati and Georgetown to start of conference play. Melvin is just the second Blue Demons player ever to pick up two Rookie of the Week awards in a season. Given some extra playing time, Melvin’s traditional statistics have... Read more »

All-Big East Non-Conference Teams

With the non-conference season winding down, and Big East play set to start up Monday when Connecticut takes on Pittsburgh, I wanted to put out my all-conference teams through the first half of the season. The two five-man teams are completely based on non-conference play and use a combination of tempo-free statistics, regular statistics and... Read more »

Juice Thompson snubbed by Cousy Award

The 66 finalists for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s best point guard, were announced today. Last season the award was won by Maryland’s Greivis Vasquez. Theoretically this list should be made up of the 66 best point guards in the country, right? Well someone screwed that up. For as hard as... Read more »
