Chicago 5 - Day 1

The first two games on the series featured a couple of match ups that were actually played as DePaul takes on Chicago State and UIC and Loyola face off. The Blue Demons got to play at home again in my simulation and took home a 68-43 victory in a game that was much slower than the 114-81, 98 possession, victory at McGrath Arena on Nov. 14, 2010.

Tony Freeland led the way for the Blue Demons with 14 points and Jeremiah Kelly added 10. With 14 points Jonathan Montgomery was the only Chicago State player in double figures. The Cougars shot 32.7% from the field. Brandon Young had eight points, six rebounds and four assists in the victory.
The other game was a replay of two Loyola victories in real life. The Ramblers won 68-59 at the Gentile Center and needed a stunning three-pointer from Courtney Stanley to win 67-66 in overtime at the Pavilion on Feb. 16, 2011.
The script was flipped in the simulation, as UIC controlled play from the opening tip and took home the 76-59 victory at the Pavilion. The plan worked just as Howard Moore would've drawn it up with Paul Carter scoring 24 points and Robo Kreps 21. Kreps also grabbed eight boards and handed out seven assists to lead the Flames. Loyola shot 35.2% in the loss. Geoff McCammon scored 15 points and Walt Gibler scored 10 on 2-7 shooting plus 6-6 from the free throw line.
