NIT Bracketology - Bracket Predictor for the weekend

The NIT Bracket Predictor is here again. For some reason UCF has snuck into the NCAA Tournament in these metrics. I have no idea how this is happening. It's quite ridiculous and I know it is, but they still sneak in. Thankfully the rest are very reasonable. The NCAA Bracket will go up in its entirety later today. First though here's the NIT. Also, the first NIT automatic bid was captured tonight when Murray State lost to Tennessee Tech in the OVC semifinals. The Racers would've been one of the final automatic bid seeds, so they appear as an 8 seed instead in this bracket. The Racers steal Alabama's bid.

NIT Bracket from the Bracket Predictor:

1. Florida State
8. Murray State
4. Colorado State
5. Drexel

3. Butler
6. Arkansas
2. California
7. New Mexico
1. Colorado
8. Wichita State
4. James Madison
5. Maryland

3. Richmond
6. Valparaiso
2. Clemson
7. Mississippi
1. Oklahoma State
8. N.C. State
4. VCU
5. Baylor
3. Harvard
6. Dayton
2. Marshall
7. South Carolina
1. Boston College
8. USC
4. Miami (FL)
5. UTEP
3. Minnesota
6. Northwestern
2. Washington State
7. Rutgers
Some notes on the bracket:
  • James Madison just suffered a bad loss in the CAA semifinals to William & Mary. That's a tough one to take and thus would knock the Dukes down from the 4 seed they are currently to the 6/7 seed line range. Gives you an idea how bunched up the bracket right now.
  • The collapse of Minnesota has been incredible. The Gophers have gone from in the NCAA Tournament to pretty far out at the moment. They've dropped to a three seed.
  • Speaking of a 3 seeds, Harvard is a 3 seed in this bracket as well. Heck of a showing by the Ivy League. The Crimson play a huge game against Ivy League leader Princeton tonight.
  • Despite the low rankings for Valparaiso and Northwestern I think both teams are going to make the NIT. For the Crusaders today's win against Detroit, while not particularly useful, should be helpful. For the Wildcats they'll have to get a victory over the aforementioned Gophers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament to feel super safe.

  • How is South Carolina a 7 in the NIT with a 14-15(7-9) record while Mississippi State is not in the NIT with a 17-13(9-7) record? Also, we beat South Carolina at home on Saturday so this is very confusing to me how the Bulldogs are not in the NIT.
