Chicago State in Final Four of WBI

It's not just the men that are in postseason play right now. The women are as well and Chicago schools are making their fans proud. The Chicago State women's basketball team led by head coach Angela Jackson has won two straight road games to reach the Final Four of the WBI (the equivalent of the CBI on the men's side).

That's exciting for not only Chicago State, but the Great West as well. Success in the tournament will help the Cougars and other GWC teams justify inclusion in future tournaments. Chicago State, which is 24-9 and went 11-1 in conference, was almost joined by another Great West school, South Dakota, but it lost to Cal-State Bakersfield in the second round. Here's the bracket (PDF).
A few other women's teams are playing in the postseason right now as well.

In the NCAA Tournament the DePaul women still have a shot at the NCAA title. Doug Bruno's squad is currently ranked 9/12 in the polls and is a three seed in the bracket. They won their first round game over Navy 56-43 thanks to a double-double from Felicia Chester. She had 12 points, 10 boards and six steals. In an odd bit of scheduling the Blue Demons will play at six seed Penn State tonight for the right to advance to the Sweet 16. The game is on ESPNU at 6:10 p.m. CT.

And in the WNIT the Northwestern women won their first round game, but fell to Alabama, 72-70 at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday. Seniors Beth Marshall and Amy Jaeschke scored 20 and 19 points respectively in their final collegiate games.
