DePaul's Brandon Young was named the Big East's Rookie of the Week thanks to his play in two home victories over Northern Illinois and Central Michigan. This is probably the first of many awards for the Blue Demons' young point guard who appears to be thriving in Oliver Purnell's up-tempo system.
Brandon Young named Big East Rookie of the Week
Young scored 17 points against the Huskies, all in the second half, and then added 31 points last night against the Chippewas. Against Central Michigan he went a perfect 6-of-6 from three-point range.
Young is the third DePaul player to win Rookie of the Week honors. Wilson Chandler won the award twice in 2005-06 and Dar Tucker won the award once in 2007-08.
Congratulations to Young on an award he certainly deserves. It's great considering all the freshman talent in the Big East that he was recognized for this award.
Update: Check out this story about Young from the school as well.
