DePaul offers statement on Walter Pitchford

The DePaul Blue Demons offered a statement today on Walter Pitchford. The 6'9" forward/center is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan now through Richmond, Indiana and has been rumored to be looking to get out of his National Letter of Intent. Apparently that's not going to happen, at least not right now.

The official statement in full:

"Despite recent media reports of Walter Pitchford being released from the National Letter of Intent he signed in November 2009, DePaul University is committed to Walter and is looking forward to him joining the program for the 2010-11 season. Walter showed nothing but enthusiasm to attend DePaul University throughout the recruiting process and since he signed the NLI to join the men's basketball program. At this time, the athletics department does not intend to grant the release, and has notified the NLI Steering Committee as its provisions require."

Make of that what you will I guess.

All the way back on May 29, 2010 SNY Big East beat writer Adam Zagoria had a story with quotes from Pitchford about leaving. I guess something has changed. I assume the release was sent out in response to The DePaulia's article on Monday.
A random note. ESPN's Eamonn Brennan (probably still hurts at Yahoo!) did a NBA mock draft based on college production. It's worthy of a read just because of how it highlights the difference between college production and NBA potential.
