Northwestern the 1931 Champs?

Welsh-Ryan Ramblings ran a post yesterday suggesting that Northwestern should raise a banner honoring itself as the 1931 National Champions in basketball. The Wildcats went 16-1 and the Helms Foundation named them champions. You can read all about it here.

A petition has been created to encourage the school to recognize the accomplishment in its media guide and with a banner at Welsh-Ryan Arena. You can sign it here.

While the accomplishment is now more than 80 years old, I think it would be great to recognize the national championship team as overall Northwestern doesn't have very much history in basketball. (To put it mildly.) Sure, it would be a little late, but late is much better than never.
