Reinsdorf thinks Bulls have an 'awfully good chance' of winning 4+ titles

Per the Lacy Banks - Sun Times:

''If you don't see something special in Derrick
Rose, then you're blind,'' Reinsdorf said. ''We have an outstanding
coach, an outstanding bunch of players, the team is deep, and if we stay
healthy, we have an awfully good chance of winning at least four
championships.''

The article also talks about how Tom Thibodeau had a White House endorsement, but the shocker is Reinsdorf discussing how many titles the Bulls can win.

Well, if we are to take Reinsdorf at his word, the luxury tax should no longer be an issue for Chicago, because the man himself has said the Bulls are right there ready to win multiple championships.  On the cusp of a dynasty.

In other words, sounds like Jerry also feels it's time to go all in with this team.

  • From Your Lips to Reinsdorf Ears

Let's hope Jerry Reinsdorf brushes aside the luxury tax during the off season and finds the shooting guard that will make this team scary for years to come.

  • Why would anybody say something like that? Seems premature and silly to me. But hopefully this means he backs it up with his pocketbook.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

    A little premature...

Yes, it's a bit outlandish. Not something Derrick Rose would ever say (or even think). But Jerry is the owner and perhaps feeling a bit excited about this Bulls team being a year or two ahead of schedule.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

Doug, you've been an awfully prolific Bulls blogger lately!

I like this article -- what should make Bulls fans hopeful is not Reinsdorf's abilities in clairvoyance, it's that he believes in this team. In the past, we know Reinsdorf has been reluctant to spend money unless it put them over the top This statement seems to indicate that he believes the Bulls have a chance to do that. I think it means he'll spend big money if it means getting closer to that title...we'll find out this offseason if this is true.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

Jerry has taken a seat on the national media hype bulls train that has taken off since this past weekend. I like all my teams to stay under the radar and even keel, but there is nothing wrong with an owner that is confident and thinks about winning as much as making green.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

To win 4 or more, he needs to get us a SG this summer.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

If the Bulls win a title this year, I'm buying a Keith Bogans jersey.

  • In reply to walrus:

It might be an all time keepsake. The Bulls 2nd team is constantly beating up on the 1st team apparently in practices.
Who is the weak link who is being taken advantage off there? I guess it is Bogans.
But that said, if he does well today...he has arrived and will be there in the playoffs.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Where did you read this?? Im not doubting you I just love to read behind the scenes stuff like that

  • In reply to UtahBullsFan:

I think it's in Hoopsworld...Also check out NBA.com about Omer Asik.

  • In reply to UtahBullsFan:

The Bulls bench bit is in a piece about CJ Watson...

"C.J. Watson has helped the Chicago Bulls become of the deepest teams in the league. They're so deep that Rose admits that the second unit has beaten the starters during practice on more than one occasion this season."

Here's the link if you want to read the rest of it...

  • In reply to walrus:

    Thanks man

  • In reply to UtahBullsFan:

The luxury tax is old news. Jerry commited to going into it when the Bulls freed up money for 2 max FA's, coming away with Boozer, and facing the impending extensions of Rose & Noah.

  • In reply to ChiRy:

THANK YOU CHIRY! Why don't people see/understand this? IMO JR has been genius in his lack of spending over the past decade. He is smart enough to save his cash for a team that actually has the pieces to win it all. Rather than dishing out cash year after year to post playoff appearances.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Something tells me that the second unit goes to sleep thinking about defense...it can't be much fun playing Brewer, Gibson, and Asik in practice -- must make the game seem not so bad!

  • In reply to walrus:

How many teams have a second unit that can lock down the other teams starters on D its crazy!! My only wish is that Taj gets his offense back!! That would be amazing for us

  • In reply to walrus:

I can't wait to see that 2nd unit press when the playoffs come, a lot of turnovers & easy buckets will be sure to follow

  • In reply to walrus:

    1st String Against 2nd String

I'd pay to see those scrimmages.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Doesn't surprise me at all, the bench D on this team is insanely good. I wonder if the practices were nil all draws.

Is it crazy to think if Brewer doesn't make an all D team he's been robbed despite the fact he comes off the bench?

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

4 titles is ... out there. It's possible but winning that many requires a lot of luck. But as Doug says, the big thing is JR says he'll pay for a winner and he says this team can be a winner so really there's no excuses. Dream up your trades where we take on 100 million in future salary with impunity!

  • In reply to bullshooter:

If he backs it up with his pocketbook then he can guarantee 100 titles.

His quotes certainly aren't as bad as Gilbert's quotes about LeBron leaving ;)

  • In reply to bullshooter:

    Agreed, Reinsdorf

  • In reply to Edward:

I think we do need an upgrade at SG but you might be being greedy about an inside scorer we cant have a ton of offensive power at every position we just wouldn't be able to afford it..

And Jos offensive skills are very underrated and aren't back yet since the injury

  • In reply to UtahBullsFan:

    I

  • In reply to Edward:

I also prefer to stay under the radar, but at this point in the season, I don't think the Bulls are really under the radar anymore. I have no problem with him showing confidence in his team and saying what he thinks they are capable of. Arrogance would have been throwing a championship celebration before the season started!

  • In reply to kayak0109:

furthermore I think they have had a target on their backs most of the season, with the media a step behind and the only one to really put them under the radar

  • In reply to Edward:

That's my biggest problem with the statement. I think we all agree they have a chance to go far in the playoffs, but there's no guarantee. At the beginning of the season I think there was consensus that if the bulls made the second round, it would be considered a successful season. It would be a shame if the team was viewed as a failure if they didn't at least make the finals now.

  • In reply to Edward:

Well now that he said that....he better go get us a SG!!!! Because we are very very close! Get me a SG an I would be a full believer. Right now were a very good team, but not a title winner imo. Not yet anyway.

  • In reply to Edward:

With Dwight Howards future cloudy in Orlando......what do you guys think about getting Jason Richardson in Chicago? I think that could put us over the top...i would like a younger player though, but JRich would work for me.

  • In reply to Csharp:

I wish he was younger but I think I would rather have him than Mayo his size is great and he has proven he is good you cant put food on the table with potential and he would be cheaper than Mayo.... Also our team is young we need some vet presence

  • In reply to Csharp:

I would also prefer a younger player, but JRich is the type of guy who would fit well and accept whatever role Thibs gives him. That's my fear with OJ Mayo...I don't see him being the type of player who would sacrifice (touches, scoring, etc.) for the good of the team if it was required of him.

  • In reply to kayak0109:

Ya thats kind of what we need a Robin not a Batman! I wouldnt mind taking a chance on B-Roy like others have suggested

  • In reply to Csharp:

Love JRich.. but I'm bias as I'm a lifetime MSU fan.

  • In reply to Edward:

I think he was just being honest and I like it.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

    i feel the same way.

  • In reply to bullshooter:

Sounds like Reinsdorf may know something about the new CBA and the Bulls will be in an exceptional position to bring in not just an upgrade at the shooting guard position but maybe more help off of the bench as well. For him to make a statement like that, he will really have to stay 1 step ahead of the Heat in the east, the Lakers for at least another couple of years and OKC cause that team is pretty much set for the future as well barring any major injuries. I know a lot of fans might not want to hear this but Orlando may be willing to take Noah for Howard cause the rumor of Howard for Bynum of the Lakers... Orlando might not want to take on that trade with Bynum's history of knee injuries. Love Noah and his passion and energy he brings to the Bulls but trading for Howard would have to be done in a heartbeat.

  • In reply to Reese1:

If a trade like this is made by the Bulls I could definitely see them winning 4+ titles.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Yes, but didn't he just say that the team already has everything it needs? Clever guy; now he doesn't have to get any new players.

  • In reply to TimS:

I get that you are all in for the ride this year but in order for the Bulls to win 4+ championships some additions will need to be made in the future. Don't be so sensitive in thinking there wont be changes to this team to continue to have success.

  • In reply to Reese1:

I wouldn't bet on anyone knowing anything on the new CBA. It needs to be negotiated, and until that happens, there's no way to tell how things will play out.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Man I would def miss Noah!! But I would be for the trade!

Make em take Omer and Booz and move JO to the 4 haha

  • In reply to Reese1:

    QUESTION:

Will LBJ cry when the Bulls win 4 titles?

I thought that would be you after Melo went to NYC
