Bulls vs Wizards 7pm on CSN [Noah a gametime decision with illness]

The Chicago Bulls look to claim sole possession of the #1 seed, if only for a day, with a win against the Washington Wizards at the United Center tonight.   Carlos Boozer is definitely out while Joakim Noah is a game time decision.   The Wizards may have their own injury problems with Blatche and Lewis possibly missing the game tonight and Josh Howard still coming back from an injury.

Keys to the game

Gibson and Asik need to step up

With Boozer out and Noah possibly out as well, and at the very least not feeling well, the Bulls will need their bench big men to step up and play well.   We've seen Omer Asik play great defense when called upon, and Taj Gibson typically plays well when big minutes are guaranteed.  Kurt Thomas will have a large role as well, and the Bulls may play a bit more small ball to make up for the rest of the minutes if Noah is out.

Rose can't try and kill Wall

He's struggled a bit against the Wizards by being over aggressive in his attempt to out do John Wall which seems silly now, but not so much earlier in the year when people were saying things like John Wall's floor is Derrick Rose's ceiling.

Rose will need to carry more of a load for the team scoring without Boozer and Noah, but he'll need to avoid the recklessness he's had at times against Washington this season.

Control your fundamentals

Washington's not very good, so control the pace of the game, rebound well, defend well, and let Washington jack up bad shots.  As long as they don't let the game get sloppy, the Bulls should have little trouble defeating Washington even if they are missing Noah and Boozer.

Final thoughts

With a win tonight, the Bulls can lay claim to the #1 seed in the East.   Every game from here on out is a big game in trying to capture that #1 seed.

  • should be good for taj and omer. hopefully they both get double doubles in a solid bulls win. i enjoy watching the wizards offense in kind of a can't look away from a car wreck sort of way. it's fascinating. go bulls.

  • You see it. They see it. We ALL see it. The #1 seed in the East is there for the Bull's to take and defend, and is vitally important this year.

    OMFG!!!

SO: I think that this can be the defining stretch for these Bulls. They're the best team in basketball whey they play their hardest for 48 minutes, every night, and they have from now till the end of the season to learn how to bring it Every night. I'm sure Thibs will light a fire under them, tonight to start with, and they will come out like a buzz-saw! Feast on the next few easier teams, learn how to hand out THRASHINGS, and get ready to run the rest of the season - or do the best they can. In other words, if it weren't for the SOFT losses, we'e be there already. NO MORE CRAP, and I think they all realize that this is the time to learn how to produce at a new level of consistency. GO BULLS! God help the poor Whizzers...

Can't blame God for MY poor typing! Sorry, too excited to poor-fread... I'm talking KILLER INSTINCT! Go Bulls! Really, I hope they learned from that Utah game, about the need to keep amping it up in a blow-out...

  • In reply to petert23:

C.J looked really good against Utah. His play has been on the rise including his assist game. I look for/hope he gets more minutes 21-23.

I guess Jo's out so I'll have to continue to wait for his offensive game/the all-star Joakim to return. I hope Taj gets the ball in the post(and more then once). He converts on those, and the jumper will fall(hopefully). And Omer needs to be smoother/quicker gathering up those passes, and DUNK it.

  • In reply to petert23:

Temptation to resist: Playing Deng for 45 minutes. Why would that be a temptation. Well both our starting 4 Boozer and our sometimes 4 Noah are out. Deng then gets extended minutes at 3 and 4. If Deng will play at the 4 then KK can log in a few more minutes at the 3 and CJ can do a few more at the 2. We can also unwrap the new guy.
How do you say Turkish Delight in turkish. Maybe that can be a chant as he is a delight to watch.

  • In reply to petert23:

This is a game where Thibs's coaching will have more impact. How he adjusts to the play of the Wizards if Taj or Omer gets in foul trouble. BTW, the Wizards front-court guys are both very physical especially the Bulls pick(Kevin Seraphin). So, hopefully the perimeter shooting of CJ, Korver will be clicking while Happy's favorite Nick Young will be chucking.

  • In reply to petert23:

Well both teams missing players Booz JoNo for Bulls; Blatche, Lewis, Young, Howard out for Wiz and J Wall playing with sore foot. This is now a real trap game so lets hope Thibs has them ready to go

    Go Bulls

OMG have u seen Chuck and Bill in their hats?? Classic LOL

  • In reply to petert23:

I hope whoever is responsible for these green uniforms is out of job tomorrow.

  • In reply to petert23:

Holy $#!%! Who took over Keith Bogans' body and replaced it with a real shooting guard?

  • In reply to petert23:

Damn the trade deadline, we should be trading Bogans while his value is at an all time high! ;)

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Man he looks good on both ends. Even got a T.
But whats up with Omar? His defensive instincts are so good, how can his offense be so miserable.
It just doesn't make sense for there to be such a disparity.

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Am I the only one that has realized that ever since the Bulls have pulled into the top, we haven't been seeing many Mr. Happy post!? lol

  • In reply to joeacook3:

He's probably hanging out on a Knicks board somewhere since he was always a fan of the players his "talent evaluation" told him were great not a team.

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

    Knicks 6-6 since acquiring Melo...
Denver 8-2 since trading Melo away..hmmmm.

  • In reply to walrus:

It's almost as if Melo is a good but not great player who didn't address any of the Knicks real needs or something!

  • In reply to joeacook3:

    are you complaining? lol

  • In reply to bsampso2:

Nahh, I just find it strange.

  • In reply to joeacook3:

On the subject of MrHappy, Hollinger describing the Hawks crowd: "Place emptier than Nick Young's scoring average."

I guess Hollinger is a CLUELESS FOLLOWER to not believe in the great Mr Young.

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Bulls secure sole possesion of the East's #1 seed while wearing Celtic green. Oh, the irony!

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Bogans was saving his best for the final stretch of the season. Do we even need a new SG;-)
Great win...One thing is why doesn't Deng get a breather. He was hurt and Thibs doesn't even care and then Rose passes the ball to him.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Did anyone else think that Wall stepped under Deng on that play a little late or am I just a biased Bulls fan? He did get revenge by hitting that 3 though on the next possession.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

It looked like the Bulls were scrimmaging with a local JV team at the end of a tough practice. They'd run up the lead, get bored, let Washington close the gap, then run up the lead again. The 2nd unit looked more bored than the 1st unit. It's nice to see the Bulls handling bad teams easily and on the regular.

  • In reply to petert23:

Okay, I just turned the game on. Does Bogans have 17 points or am I drunk?

  • In reply to walrus:

    MVP!

  • In reply to kayak0109:

I'm telling you guys...if the Bulls win the title, I'm buying myself a Bogans jersey!

  • In reply to walrus:

Where? Where you gonna find one? haha.
    Hope you get it!

  • In reply to Edward:

    No idea ;)

  • In reply to walrus:

Bulls have a nasty road-back-to-back with New Jersey and Indiana both playing well.

  • In reply to kayak0109:

Great blowout by the Bulls, but I can't help being frustrated with Thibs playing Deng 43 minutes in this one. There is just no reason to keep wearing him down, and Rose should not be in the game when we have a 15 point lead with 3 minutes left.

  • In reply to kayak0109:

Thibs is using Deng as his rookie coach security blanket. Deng played 43 MINUTES and gets dinged up with 3 minutes left. That

  • In reply to petert23:

Bogans must have had some Irish drink or he thinks he is Ray Allen since he is wearing green.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Maybe I need some of that Irish drink...my game could use some help.

  • En b

    Omer Asik Steps "Down"

Sadly, Omer didn't "step up" in his game last night. He "stepped down".

So I'll keep my Omer Asik cheers to a minimum, until he deserves them.
