Bulls at Wizards 6pm on CSN

The Bulls no longer get to see the friendly face of Kirk Hinrich on the team with a bottom feeder and instead will need to face him four more times when they play the Hawks.

Now we're down to just the John Wall show, and maybe Javale McGee can replicate his three ball dunk to get a six point play for Chicago.  Of course it will take him seven tries, so the overall efficiency of it won't help out the Wizards.

Quite simply, this is a game, the Bulls should win, but as I've said before, there are no safe games for this team on the road.

Keys to the game

Keep the pace slow

The Wizards have a whole lot of athletes out there with John Wall, Javale McGree, Nick Young, and Rashard Lewis (athletic for a four).   Don't get into a sloppy up an down game against this team, because they can make runs in those conditions.   Instead, force them to play patient half court offense / defense where athleticism isn't as important, and you our superior discipline will win out.

Derrick Rose will blow up John Wall

Rose previously made comments about how he wanted to make sure to win the matchup.   I think he probably felt a bit disrespected with all the talk this summer about how Wall had a higher ceiling than him, and he's ready to shove it in Wall's face every time they go up each other for the rest of history.

He's already dominated a bunch of other top tier PGs, and the Wizards help defense isn't disciplined enough to slow Derrick down.

Boozer better get his butt out there on Rashard Lewis or it's Gibson time

Boozer's had his issues with stretch fours, and he's rarely played ones who back it out all the way to the three point line.   I'm ready for a healthy dose of Taj Gibson if Boozer isn't up to the task of defending the three point line.

While Boozer is in the game, he should exploit the fact that he's a whole crapload tougher than Rashard Lewis and beat him down in the post and on the glass.

Don't fall into a lull

Look, I get it, you're not at peak energy every night.   However, the Bulls have started off many of their road games extremely flat.   The Bulls don't need to play their best ball to win most likely, but they can't come out half-assing it either figuring the win is in the bag.

Practice good ball movement and team offense

The Wizards have a lousy team defense, and as such, are particularly vulnerable to ball movement and off-ball movement.   Limit isolations and simply run the team offense, and the Bulls should have a big night.

Final thoughts

Just go in there and get the win.   This shouldn't be a difficult game, let's hope it turns out that way.

  • there are reports of Corey Brewer being bought out. Bulls need to sign him asap.

  • In reply to sabixx:

I would love to have him. 6'7 defensive minded, great athlete. Not as good of a shooter as Butler though. Noah could help ease him right in with the Bulls. Use to be teammates at florida.

  • key of the game : limit nick young. by Mr happy lol.
just kidding. This should be an easy one. Without Hinrich wizards are even worse.

  • Key to winning the game: Get Wall to pass to Nick Young and then put 2 defenders on Young. He will still keep shooting.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

    lmao !! lol. he's so selfish !

  • In reply to deewaves:

    lol

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

NY has bought out Corey Brewer.....Bulls should grab him if for no other reason than to keep others from having him...damn Knicks

  • In reply to drob:

I guess D'Antoni doesn't want anybody who can defend without any offense.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Noah's going to go to management and persuade them to sign Brewer!

  • In reply to drob:

he is 26% from the 3pt line. That's too bad man !!

  • In reply to drob:

K.C. Johnson just tweeted that the Bulls have NO interest in Corey Brewer.

  • In reply to BullsBacker2333:

Do they have interest in anybody besides Butler?

  • In reply to Reese1:

Unless Rip Hamilton gets bought out at the last minute, I doubt it...

  • In reply to Reese1:

McGraw has been tweeting that they are interested in Bibby, but he's not expected to reciprocate that interest.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

I was hoping Bibby would come as well. And Doug, I saw you write it many times now and I keep forgetting to mention that the Bulls only play ATL 3 times this year, not four like you keep writing.

  • In reply to bcz1980:

I really like Brewer....but he just cant shoot the 3. And thats what we need. If the Bulls get Butler...we can either start Ronnie Brewer an bring Butler off the bench or give Butler Bogans minutes. Butler can stretch the floor an thats what we need.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Bulls better keep the one game at a time mentality going tonight. they need this win to move within a game of Miami and the next 3 games are tough opponents (including Miami) and on the road.

Speaking of Miami, they have a brutal schedule for the next few weeks and I really think we can slip into the #2 seed. We can realistically go 7-4 or 8-3 over our next 11 games ending with Indiana on 3-18. Meanwhile Miami plays 9 games over that span against the Magic, Spurs, Bulls, Blazers, Lakers, and Grizzlies, Spurs, Thunder, and Hawks. With their trouble with winning teams they could easily go only 5-4 or worse.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Unfortunaelty Boston's schedule is much softer and if the Bulls are going to catch them they need to start loosing some games you would expect them to win.

  • In reply to bcz1980:

"They" as in the Celtics - just to clarify :)

  • In reply to bcz1980:

yep, I wrote about this yesterday

  • In reply to BullsBacker2333:

One thing going for Corey is he has been playing for an awful team with awful PGs....Kahn wants superstars at every position;-)...no wonder he is letting him go. Hopefully, he lands in the right system and makes it a career.
I think if there are multiple players drafted from a winning college team, it is usually only about 50% of that group who will make it good in the NBA.

  • In reply to BullsBacker2333:

Glad to finally have a game to watch instead of all this buyout stuff. Can't take any game for granted, especially on the road. Need Boozer to snap out of his mini slump to make things easier.

Good article, by the way, on Rose as an efficient playmaker...

    http://hoopspeak.com/2011/02/beyond-assists-why-derrick-rose-is-a-more-efficient-playmaker-than-you-think/

  • In reply to walrus:

I liked that as well, I was going to post it, but then I got too busy.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Too Busy? What else do you have to do?Work? Be a good dad? Be the head of a household? We all thought your sole purpose in life was to give us our Chicago Bulls fix and supply a place for Mr. Happy to post bad trade ideas.

  • In reply to kbar17:

    LMFAO!

  • In reply to bwself:

    hahahaha lol

  • In reply to kbar17:

this guys need to get contracted, they play like a high school team, i still dont see what their system is

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

They're terrible and really young, so that's not surprising.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

gibson and asik play just about the best defense in the paint i've seen in years.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

They are like a brick wall back there. They completely change the way our opponents play.

  • In reply to walrus:

Asik has really impressed me....having him down there makes guys change their shots all the time. Same with Taj.

  • In reply to walrus:

A strong run to open the third and the game is over.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Thats more like it. Now no let up.

    SCALA-BREEEEEEEEEEEEEENIE

  • In reply to walrus:

WOW what a pass by D Rose! That was sick! Between the legs to Noah!

  • In reply to walrus:

Why is MrHappy not giving us Nick Young updates this game?

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Because he is waiting for Young to go for 6-8 in the all important 4th quarter ...I mean garbage time in this game.

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

isn't ronnie brewer a better option than 6-9 corey brewer?

  • In reply to pinkizdead:

Brewer 6'7....not a very good shooter either

  • In reply to Csharp:

he's a better shooter than corey brewer. Sadly, they're both bad at it.

  • In reply to pinkizdead:

About time we beat someone up...good win...now we got the Hawks next. They could test us.

  • In reply to pinkizdead:

Not sure this game is even worth recapping, though Rose had the between the legs pass and Scal with the epic banker.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

You deserve a night off, Doug!

  • In reply to Edward:

agree. u have only 2 word to write : awesome game.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

What!! You don't want to discuss Nick Young's stellar performance;-)
Is Flip Saunders in trouble after a blow-out with Rose's tendency to get opposing coaches fired?

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Blowing out an inferior opponent on the road. How Refreshing!!!

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Why are the starters playing when the Bulls are up 20? Anyone really worried about a 20-0 run by the Wizards with 4 minutes to go?

  • In reply to DougThonus:

It is good for Rose to practice those 3 pointers or pull-up threes as this is more like a practice game against a real opponent. It might come in handy in the future..

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Game over; Scal is in the game lol

  • In reply to DougThonus:

    And he scores!!!

  • In reply to DougThonus:

Now that is what we should do against lessor teams.

Well played Bulls, a great warm up for the real tests coming up over the next couple of weeks

  • In reply to DougThonus:

All about good habits Doug. Come playoffs, you're goingt o want them to know how to play with a lead.

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

    WOW - Derrick Rose!!

    Enuf said

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

Ha! Is there a shot that guy doesn't like?!

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

great game bulls ! we're proud of you !

  • In reply to DontLetsStart:

    Good game, I loved it.

One of those games where I felt like the Bulls were very casual and relaxed.
At times, TOO casual and relaxed ... and yet, at the end, it was a very dominating performance.

I kept thinking during the game, what would this team be like if we could clear up some of the sloppiness on the offensive end.
It amazes me to think that because of our dominant defense and rebounding, we continue to beat even the best teams. I really think we have a lot of areas for improvement, and I mean that in a positive way. Can you imagine what this team could be like with better flow and execution on the offensive end of the floor? We could have scored 130 easily tonight.

  • In reply to DougThonus:

One of the remarkable things that Rose has done is make people re-think the way they look at value and production. Amongst the stat guys, he was a guy they used to like to criticize. He was that square peg in their conventional thinking -- but now I'm finding that starting to soften. You can no longer ignore that Rose makes his team better than current statistical theory would suggest -- and that indicates that maybe it's time to re-evaluate how players are evaluated. There have been more than a few articles recently from analysts beginning to look at things differently when it comes to measuring Rose's impact on the Bulls. And I say it's about time!

  • In reply to walrus:

I think so too although as Bulls fans we might over-rating him a little bit. The amazing thing is in this age of super-athletes in the NBA and even the Euro guys being more aggressive nowadays, Rose is better than almost all of them and has great basketball skills. The complaint against Rose that he doesn't get many FT attempts is one of them.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

I think as a whole Bulls fans overrate Rose. There are fans that go absolutely over the top with Rose, but I think the more down to earth fans realize he has flaws and that he isn't the best player in the NBA - not yet, anyway. It's still nice to see that those who were underrating Rose are beginning to realize how good a player he is.

  • In reply to walrus:

Bulls off to a good start this game. Just keep the pressure on. We'll see if the Bulls can keep the pressure on and put the game away early.

  • In reply to walrus:

Yes so Miami is probably getting Bibby and Murphy. I thought it was reported on Hoopsworld that they were at the cap/had no room for signings?? So what scam did Riley(McSlime) pull this time? At least the Bulls apparently were 'interested' whatever that means. But they couldn't convince him because they didn't have minutes...sigh. Oh well I guess like everyone else in the NBA he wants the sure thing playing with Wade and LeChoke.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Every team can sign as many players as it wants to the vet minimum.

I don't think you can make a more appealing situation for Bibby than one of the 3-4 teams with the best chance to win this year that also has a gaping hole at your position.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

rose is being an idiot, trying to kill wall, settle down.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

I thought maybe he was pressing to try and outplay the great Nick Young ;)

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

He had the same problem last game too.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

the bulls are playing into this slopfest

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

where can i listen to the game on radio? Espn 1000 has news on

  • In reply to bcz1980:

    hey bcz

all links for radio (WBIG is best) and online TV

  • In reply to Jersey66:

    http://freebasketballradio.com/Chicago.html

  • In reply to Jersey66:

Now lets come out after the half an put this game away so Scal gets some minutes!!

  • In reply to bcz1980:

I like the intensity tonight. Players seem to be moving as well ad moving the ball well. If they could hit some of their jumpers this would be a root. Like seeing this in HD on NBAPass as well.

  • In reply to UnstopaBull:

    Rout

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

you are so correct. Washington is less than a sum of its parts clearly due to selfish play by Youbg and others. They are all playing for themselves.
