Bulls at Celtics 7pm on ESPN

The Chicago Bulls head into Boston after a discouraging loss at the hands of the New York Knicks.  It's always tough to play on a back to back, especially when your opponent is not playing on a back to back (frequently both teams are), and such is the case tonight.

The Celtics are rested, at home, and have more talent than the Bulls while Carlos Boozer is on the sidelines.   Those three things don't add up to great odds for our Bulls tonight.

Keys to the game:

Get out and run

The Celtics are old, and if they have a weakness it's age.  It's a team you'd rather play three or four months into the season rather than early, because they'll likely have some more injuries down the stretch or at least be playing with some exhaustion.   Despite the fact the Bulls are coming off a back to back, they need to try and run the Celtics out of the building.

Push the pace hard early, make them pull O'Neal out of the game because Noah is killing him with energy.   Make them try and contain Derrick Rose on the fast break.

Zone up on Ray Allen
Don't try and have one guy cover Ray Allen and run through the screens, but instead play a zone with a perimeter defender on each wing and let that wing defender cover Allen.  It will save a lot of energy and hurt the effectiveness of their screens.  It also should stop the Celtics from getting high percentage threes from the corner.

Obviously you need to mix up your coverage based on who is doing the damage, but in crucial situations, be aware that you can mitigate the damage done on backscreens with a zone.

Try to avoid double teams except deep in the paint
The Celtics are a deep, well rounded, team.  Unless you need to rotate over to help on a guy at the basket who's about to score, everyone needs to man up on their guy when not in the zone.   The Celtics have too many scorers and move the ball too well to start doubling a guy to force the ball out of his hands.

Play Kyle Korver a lot with the starters
The Celtics have older guys defending the perimeter, so someone like Korver who runs all over the place on back screens to work his shot is likely to find some success, especially late in the game if their perimeter defenders are worn down a bit.   The Bulls really aren't getting anything from Bogans and very little from Brewer.  The JJ experiment went south after one game, so let's start riding Korver.

The Bulls best crunch time lineup right now is Rose, Korver, Deng, Gibson, and Noah, so get these guys playing together more frequently.

Final thoughts
This game will be awfully tough for the Bulls to win.  Similar to the Knicks beating the Bulls, the Bulls will need to do something special to beat the Celtics or need the Celtics to just crap the bed to win this game.   With a healthy Boozer these two teams might be close, but even then, a road back to back vs a fresh team is a tough position to be in.  Without Boozer, this will be a stiff test, one of many tough games coming up in November.

  • Very nervous about this game. Although we usually perform well when were expected to lose. I think shaq is bothered by an injury so I'm not sure he will play. The refs will probably be on bostons side. We really need to defend rondo make sure he cant set his team mates up try bogans on him for a while. I hope we win

  • I just hope the coach doesn't give up on his team again like he did last night fight till the finally second

  • I mean final second

  • Word of the day:

Redemption - The act of redeeming or the condition of having been redeemed.

    Just saying.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I hate when dictionaries use the same word to define itself.

If Omer Asik looked up redemption in Happy's dictionary, he still doesn't know what it means.

  • In reply to Davidmon5:

    Gringo,

    Grab a Turkish dictionary then.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I'm pretty sure the word "redemption" wouldn't be in a Turkish dictionary....

Asik doesn't suck nearly as much as I expected!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Doug, I think Mr. Thibs reads your blog. No hockey lineup changes so far, kept Noah and Deng in with the scrubs.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

And he mixed one of the scrub SG's in with the starting lineup. No, wait, we just don't have a starting SG.

Although Bogans is having a pretty nice game thus far minus the one layup he threw away...looked like he was feeling greedy after finishing a few breaks, but he should have taken that one all the way, too.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I just don't know about this coach we have smdh

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Here comes the refs saving the day....Celtics are getting a foul call everytime they come up for floor! Since Luol Deng isnt a good enough player....he doesnt get blocking calls....he gets charges.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Is it safe to say the Bulls officially have a 2nd quarter curse?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

when is everybody coming to terms with the fact that the bulls have been fielding .500 teams for the last 6 years disguised as contenders

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

I already know this ixon but other Bulls fans seem to think this Bulls team is a 3 or 4 seed in the east. Atlanta is doing very well right now and could push this Bulls team to a 5 seed in the east. MOVES NEED TO BE MADE SOON AS POSSIBLE, TOO MUCH LACK OF SCORING.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Ive been saying the same for the past 3-4 years lol....but everyone seems to think Luol Dung is a borderline all star

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Can someone please tell me why Noah got a tech??

  • In reply to rustumt:

    because were in boston lol

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

I can't stand this bullshit. 2 big baby charges, ray Allen dive after a 3, KG not getting a tech for slapping the ball out of Noahs hand, Noahs tech, Rose not getting ANY calls.

  • In reply to Dileg:

thats the nba for you, its rigged!

  • In reply to Csharp:

Yeah I don't know why this is my favorite sport.

  • In reply to Dileg:

    me neither lol

  • In reply to Dileg:

Dung making more mistakes...throws the ball out of bounds, could of just called timeout, an then sucks on the defensive end not showing against rondo

  • In reply to Csharp:

that daniels might be on the nba's top 5 ugly list

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

he looks like a alien lol

  • In reply to Csharp:

Yeah, but Jermaine O'Neal looks like a fetus.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

props to Cj Watson....that was a huge three

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

fallin apart again, good job fellas

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Hear come the NBA refs again.....were in Boston

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    shit, rose cant guard anybody

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Why doesnt Luol Deng hack Ray Allen!?!?!? Dont let him just score a easy layup! GET AGGRESSIVE AN HACK SOMEBODY!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Anyone else see the clock run when we didnt even touch the ball!?!?!?!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

DENG hes working on that 3 ball!!!!!!1 lol

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

MAKE A FREAKIN OPEN JUMP SHOT!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

OMG BOGANS!!!! You almost screwed us lol! LETS GO D ROSE!!!!!!! ITS ALL YOU!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

rose #$%^^ sucks, hes terrified of little bitch rondo

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    Unreal....didnt even get a shot

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    Rondo didnt reach in?

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

bulls cant possibly win thi one

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Thats the difference between a smart team an the Bulls....Paul Pierce didnt even let Rose pass half court

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    Catch the Ball Taj GIBSON!!!!!!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    Were in Boston

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

told you couldnt win this one, rose fucked up thwe only chance

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Damn! Iam getting tried of this team losing! Shit

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    SHAMEFUL:

Another BRILLIANT coaching job by Tom "call me VDN" Thibodeau.

And what the F+ck was Noah auditioning to be a PG with the game on the line.

    This is B+lls+h+t.

    GET ME F+ckin MELO!!!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

What did Thibodeau do to lose this game exactly?

  • In reply to WearShades:

Chill pills. Wow, how about an early freak out by certain posters...

  • In reply to MrHappy:

We need another shooter in a heartbeat

  • In reply to MrHappy:

You are in love with james johnson I see wow

  • In reply to jaymccray:

    two,

I'm looking for a divorce actually. He needs to go.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

People keep giving this team a pass. They need more scoring at the 2 and 3 spots. Boozer will not make that much of a difference. That seems to be everybody's excuse for this team. AGAIN... Boozer will help but a good elite team has some descent perimeter scoring. Bulls need a good shooting guard that can create their own shot or CARMELO ANTHONY... BOTTOM LINE. If Melo ends up with N.Y., that's the NBA's doing cause that team obviously have no good players and they have no draft picks. I feel like some foul mess will go down and he will find his way to the Knicks.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

What was noah thinking give the damn ball up

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Bulls 2-3, need to protect the home court the next 3 games before the circus trip.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

i cant stand the NBA.....im getting really sick and tired of watching all these BS calls! Really.....really....Derrick Rose got called for a offensive foul going to the hoop for a layup? Get the heck out of here

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Not sure why T.T. doesn't go offense/defense with Korver. Why let him get abused by Ray? Seems like an obvious strategy to me.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Why didn't tom call a timeout when noah had the damn ball smh

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

I put this at the door step of the coach bottomline

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    BOTTOM-LINE:

Rose, Deng and Noah let this team down. They lost the game.

    - Rose dribbles out the clock at the end of regulation...no shot attempt.
    - Deng takes a desperation 3pt. shot out of a timeout only down by 5.
    - Noah tries to become a PG and turns the ball over while down by only 3.

RIDICULOUS. This team is still MEDIOCRE.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

We need more damnscoring asap! Can't gar/pax see that and stop putting sal in the game please!

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

told you bulls have that .500 team stink all over again

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    GO-TO GUY:

As the games go by, it's clear that the Bulls don't have a true GO-TO GUY.

Derrick Rose can't step-up and be CLUTCH.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Noah had a great game just one bone head play at the end but the boston D wouldn't let rose get going

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

the NBA sucks big time, F%Ckin michael jordan got me watching this mess 18 years ago and for some reason i got stuck with it forever, even though if you are not a fan of one of the nba's 5 favorite teams (as bulls used to be) it really sucks for you. Dont know how all those timberwolves fans can take it.

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

Com'on happy rose is a go to guy boston just played great D him

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

T.T just having showed me anything yet I mean nothing that I didn't see with vdn last year sad

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

show of hands whos sick of the bulls as a fightin little team that earns 5-8 playoff seeds and plays the top teams "REALLY TOUGH"

  • In reply to ixonflex69:

    CURIOUS:

How did Dickey Johnson do tonight?

  • In reply to Csharp:

come on, rondo cant score, that's embarrasing

  • In reply to Dileg:

Miami, Boston, Orlando, Atlanta are all better than the Bulls by a good margin. Another no call for the Bulls....like i said, Luol Deng isnt good enough to get that call.

  • In reply to Csharp:

yep you are right Paul P was hanging all on Deng though.

  • In reply to Csharp:

I don't think Atlanta is better than us.

  • In reply to Dileg:

    they are right now.

  • In reply to Dileg:

A clear trend from the last two games:

Second quarter the second unit looks awful. Forth quarter the second unit looks good. You know the difference? JJ & Scal play in the second and not the forth.

Thibs needs to cut those two from the rotation and we'll be fine.

  • In reply to Dileg:

Yeah we need melo and if we don't get him please try to some scoring help asap keith bogan 4points ain't going to cut it

  • In reply to jaymccray:

everyone just relax, have ya'll forgotten we have Boozer?

  • In reply to jaymccray:

Rose should not be the go to guy right now. If everyone wants him to be the go to guy, then the Bulls need to bring in another scoring threat from the perimeter. Like I said Boozer will help a great deal but the Bulls will need someone that can hit a consistent jumper when Rose and Boozer is having good defense played on them. Bulls brass need to get something done ASAP. The next 10 games will be very interesting for the Bulls with the circus trip coming up. The next 3 games will need to be won at home while giving Melo a good impression cause I believe that's who the Bulls play next... the Denver Nuggets.

  • In reply to jaymccray:

Boston is filled with a bunch of pieces of shit, the Boston Pieces O'Shit I like to call them. Pierce is a big time douche as well. I know exactly what Noah is talking about when he says ""We're only going to get better. When we do, it's going to get real ugly. For everybody who is talking real crazy and all the trash people are talking right now, it's going to come back and haunt them."

We are going to be kicking the shit out of those warn down old men by then, will see just how much heart Garnett has then

  • In reply to jaymccray:

and it is going to get real ugly. I'd like to see our enforcer lineup featuring Noah @ C, tough guy Kirk Thomas @ PF, 260 lb 5% body fat Carlos Boozer @ SF, James Johnson & his blackbealt @ SG...ohh yeah its gonna get real ugly

  • In reply to jaymccray:

We need players that can shoot the damn ball bogan waston jj sal bewer can't shoot really don't bring much to this team

  • In reply to jaymccray:

Damn warriors have a better record than us 4-1

  • In reply to Dileg:

This isnt the first time we have been down by double digits in a game.....lets see here.....Pistons were killing us, Knicks were killing us....Celtics were killing us, When Rose goes to the bench, WE CANT SCORE Lol

  • In reply to MrHappy:

This Bulls team will not be a contender until they get some more consistent scoring. It doesn't make sense for your point guard to lead the team in scoring. Boozer will not make that much of a difference when he comes back. People can say that the Bulls are not playing good defense but they still need to score at a efficient pace to keep up with most of the teams in the NBA. I'm not trying to judge the Bulls but is too easy to see this teams weakness and everyone else in the league knows it. Example... the N.Y.Knicks, all they did was run and outscore the Bulls with 3s cause they knew the Bulls have a offensive handicap.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    THE DIFFERENCE:

    * 14-0 run by the C's to start the 2nd Qrt.
    * The Bulls bench is non-existent (3pts. at the half)
    * Luol Deng only 2/8 at the half.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

How insightful. the 14-0 run by the Celtics made a 'difference'? You're like the second coming of John Wooden.

I'm actually more impressed that you actually posted a comment earlier without using caps. For a while I thought your shift button was stuck.

  • In reply to DanFrystak:

    +1

  • I kinda hope shaq plays a little bit so we can see how Omer does guarding him

  • Guard Rondo! Noah take out KG after that BS trashtalk he was saying. I really hope Noah takes it to him though...dunk on him, block his shot lol do something lol

Last time we played the Celtics, Rose went off putting up 38points to Rondos 4! Hopefully Rose goes off again! I think Korver could be big tonight too! Watch out for all the flops the celtics do....they get you in foul trouble really fast. Rondo trips all the time...and Peirce and Ray Allen are drama queens too...more so pierce then Allen.

I dont see us winning tonight...but i hope we really fight tonight and you never know...we could walk away with the W. The Cavs beat these guys not to long ago.

  • We are going to need some other than deng noah and rose to help with the scoring load tonight it got to be a full team effort

  • Ya these are a bunch of old guys, we can run them up an down the court, half court offense an defense is where we might struggle

  • low turn overs, strong defense and run and gun! These are oldies but goodies. keep that in mind. Let's learn form the knicks game please, guard rayray.

  • Amen
