Doug, I know you have said International results don't mean much, but do you think Rudy can play well enough to change his value in the next few games of FIBA? What if Spain plays the US in the finals and Rudy has a really strong performance? Any chance Portalnd is thinking this and is holding off accepting what has been offered so far? We know players who have great NCAA tournament games have their value change so I would think FIBA quaterfinal games to the finals would also get some notice.
If you analyze Portland's roster, they are pretty deep in almost every position except maybe at Center. Pryzbilla and Oden have been injured. I am guessing they are looking for a Center kind of big man plus a pick for Rudy. I don't see where are they going to get pieces like that unless Minnesota wants him to make sure Rubio comes over soon.
It is a cat and mouse game for Portland. I think Ronnie Brewer will be great as a sixth man/seventh man sometimes playing long minutes depending on match-ups or if Rudy is just not good enough.
I would like to know from Boozer is what he is going to add to his game this year other than establishing chemistry with his new teammates..
Don't forget Portland has Marcus Camby at center as well. I'd say if healthy, Portland is the deepest team at the 5.
Doug,
Why are you conceding the #2 seed to Orlando? If there's one team that falls off with the East being much stronger now - not to mention their own division getting ridiculous, it's Orlando. There's no good reason why the Bulls shouldn't challenge, and beat Orlando for that #2 seed in the East. Who did Orlando add? Quentin Richardson...that's going to help them maintain their position? Please. The best two teams are problably the Heat and the Celtics, but as you mention the Celtics are probably going to lean back for the reg season. Bulls should be #2, not Orlando.
I agree the Bulls could be #2 if the Celts don't care about their record, but I could also see them 5-6. I hope not but their starts have been sooo bad the past few years and the circus trip always seems to put them in a hole. I sure hope it doesn't happen this year but we will have to wait and see.
I think the Bulls end up with Rudy. Just a gut feeling. Go Bulls!!!
Omer Asik looking good for Turkey!
Clayon, I haven't kept up in the FIBA tournament. What has Asik done? Have you watched him or are you just saying it based on stats.
My two cents on Fernandez is that he is the one better suited for coming of the bench, which of course he doesn't want and has pouted about for two years now. With his 3-point range and suspect defense, he seems more like an instant offense substitution (what Pargo was supposed to be and what Ben Gordon probably would be the best in the league at if he ever accepted the role) rather than a legitimate starter.
I like the fact that Brewer is a defensive stopper and an offensive slasher/finisher. I also will defer to Deron Williams' judgment; he was openly upset about losing his backcourt mate last year. Brewer must have brought some valuable intangibles for Williams to speak out on the trade.
Here a quick link to his stats http://espn.go.com/extra/fiba/boxscore?gameId=300907940 17 minutes, 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 for 2 at the FT line, with an assist, preety good considering his minutes
doug you want to give the whole lineup for melo you are nuts!
i will give gibson and deng and thats to much for a guy that only can score!
