Scottie Pippen's Hall of Fame speech

As expected Pippen gave a fairly standard humble speech.   He used all of his time just to say thank you to everyone who helped him.

He started by thanking everyone in his family.  His parents, siblings, wife, kids.   He went on to thank a childhood friend, his high school coach, college coaches, remembering those who helped him back before he was a superstar.

Afterwards he went on to thank all the people in his NBA life focusing primarily on the Bulls.  He thanked Reinsdorf by name, called Phil the greatest coach ever, and asked all his teammates to stand.   He thanked USA basketball, and gave Nike a pretty long shout which I found kind of odd.

He started to tear up at the end, thanked God, and then left.

I would have loved to hear a few more stories and had some more fun built in, but that said, congrats Scottie, you deserve it.

  • Unless Scottie gets into coaching or the FO, I guess this is kind of end of Scottie making big news in public life.
BTW, I have a personal Scottie Pippen story. I was at Borders or Barnes and Nobles in Deerfield in 1997(If I remember right)..I was looking for a book and there was a tall guy next to me looking for a book. He was Brian Williams(Bison Dele) and I didn't recognize him at all. He was chatting about what I was looking and it was some book on Molecular Biology and we started talking about it. And then another big tall guy stops by(I was stupid enough again not recognizing him...I thought I have seen him somewhere and he looks familiar)...Scottie checked with us and asked what the hell we were talking about...Brian Williams for some reason wanted to learn about Molecular Biology and Scottie was amused..
Then some people recognized them and started coming forward for autographs...I didn't even get an autograph but had a good 5 min of conversation...

  • Great speech...he was never the most articulate guy, but always heartfelt. I guess Krause will get recognition if Reinsdorf gets in the Hall. Otherwise, no dice. But its better to say nothing at all than to belittle the person. Scottie handled it with class, He was a great player and I hope he will accept a coaching role, though his children are so small he might stay at home. Ambassador work seems right for him now. Its a damn shame he didn't thank Wade for getting him his new gig. Pip needs to show more appreciation...lol

  • Pip also gave MJ some major props. 'Best teammate ever'

  • Does anybody know why Phil wasn't there. I thought that Phil has called Scottie his favorite player, am I wrong.

Also it appears that Horace Grant wasn't there, and Pippen didn't thank him. They used to be the best of friends almost like twin brothers their first few years in the league. anybody else notice, anybody know whats up with them.

I am glad that there were no awkward moments for Pip or Jordan, I was slightly worried. Scottie finally seemed secure and at peace with himself and his place in the game. I am happy for him.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Good question man...Scottie and Horace were good friends back in the day...I don't know what is up. Phil wasn't at Jordan's last year either. But Jordan didn't attend his induction so that is fair play.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Congrats Scottie, you really do deserve your place in the HOF. You will always be known for being part of the best duo to ever play together. You picked the right guy to present you.

  • In reply to BigWay:

really nice speech, I teared up at the end.

  • In reply to BigWay:

it was nice to see Jud

  • In reply to BigWay:

Good question and interesting statement: "They used to be the best of friends almost like twin brothers their first few years in the league". Horace actually has a REAL identical twin brother that played in the league: Harvey Grant.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

That right, I forgot about Harvey.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

I found it interesting following the coverage this week, that the non Chicago coverage of Pippen seemed noticably larger than the coverage of Malone, the second leading scorer in league history.

I find this interesting because there are still a number of people(Skip Bayless, chief among them)who don't think that Scottie is a HOF'er and definatley not a top 50 guy.

I find the predominance of Pippen coverage an argument that people consider him a greater player than they do Malone, who is clearly top 50.

  • In reply to BigWay:

    Agreed.

  • In reply to KenyattaWright:

    Ha. I agree too.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Every time I listen to Bayless he strikes me as one of those guys who thinks he knows the game when he's actually clueless. Either that, or he's one of those devil's advocates who like to stir up controversy to get attention, no matter how much of a dumb@$$ he appears to be in the process.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Ho Grant and Pippen had a major fallout during Grant's final years as a Bull. The story is widely known amoung teammates. Women, fame and greed were the reason and Grant was the cancer. Pip was always a straight up good guy loved by the coaches and team and Grant grew jealous of MJ and Pips fame.
They didn't speak for years and years after Grant split to Orlando. Pip didn't ask HG to speak or be in attendance at the HOF because they are not friends. AND THATS THE TRUTH

  • In reply to BigWay:

What's with the Wade crack on Scottie's HOF speech retrospective? Low class. Anyone who marries a crazy b*itch, and has kids with them, and then leaves the kids with said crazy b*tch? Give me a f-ing break.

If Wade's comments got Scottie a job with the Bulls then that makes them somewhat phony, plotting a-holes. But who doesn't do damage control/politics sometimes, and it would be interesting if some journalist actually did some reporting, and found out how that job offer to Scottie eveolved(as in before or after/due to Wade's comments)

Thing is, if Jordan and Pippen did make negative comments to Wade about the Bulls organization, who do those really apply to? Reinsdorf who was the one who wrote the $30 Mil checks to Michael and helped engineer a deal later with Houston that made Scottie(at the time) a wealthy man/$50 Mil. Or Jerry Krause. A guy who Jordan called krumbs because he was in fact a slob who sat, and talked to him with food krumbs all over himself. Krause basically told Phil Jackson who was willing to sign a 10 year deal for $10 Mil to fuck off. Yes he told 10 Time World Champion coach Phil Jackson to f-ck off. And Michael and Scottie complain about the organization. Imagine that. And this is a guy we're supposed to give a flying f-ck if he makes into the basketball Hall of Fame?

Only a human dildo would take a pot shot cheap laugh at Scottie on his HOF/speech day to joke about getting his job with the Bulls through that punk ass mouth piece/Riley's b*tch Wade. Anyone who does this on Scottie's HOF day has no reverence/appreciation of Scottie whatsoever. And by the way "observing" he was never the most articulate guy!? Yes as a ESPN short lived commentator and in post career interviews Scottie does suffer from clam-upitis. But during his career in post game and off court interviews Scottie was one of the most well spoken, engaging figures in the history of Chicago sports. These comments at Scottie's expense were thos of a clueless mouth piece who does not know jack about Pippen or apparently anything else. You have no substance Whitney Houston, and are a waste of humanity/space on this blog.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

A closer look at Houston's comments shows there was no malice intent. Sometimes you are ridiculous...

  • In reply to mdot1986:

Once again with your meddling on my comments. I wasn't talkiing to you #1BullsDork. The guy came on with a hard-on insulting people who disagreed with his Kobe anti-rape crusade tirade. Even Doug commented he was being an ass. He said I was licking Doug's ass when Doug himself said why are you saying that to him? He made no personal comment towards you?

That was Doug who said that. I never made any personal remark to him, and he said I was licking Doug's ass. That is a punk. And so you, knowing nothing about the situation have to come in replying to my comments when you don't know a f-ing thing about the situation you dork.

As I said before you tag onto other people's comments just as Houston has to do in a negative, immature light because you are dipsh*ts. If he wouldn't have personally insulted me, and had to latch onto my own opinons there wouldn't be a problem.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Chill, man....you're starting to act like an angry Mr. Happy. You did misread Houston's comment...

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

I'm over it Ass Warrior...I was joking about Wade...I don't think Wade got him that job. I commended Pippen, I am not a male groupie for anybody though. The more you talk, the more the name "Ass Warrior" fits.

  • In reply to Houston:

By the way, you attacked me unprovoked initially, so I retaliated. Check the blog. Notice I talked to you like that and nobody else. Because you chose to be the idiot of the group. And now you are offended. Get over it clown.

  • In reply to Houston:

Check the blog yourself(and you too clueless #1BullsFan) you lying as*wipe. Doug himself stated you insulted me(and him) with that ass licking comment. And then he asked you why you did that when I had said nothing to you personally. That's what happened you lying punk.

You are a punk and a liar. And the Jerry Krause love when he told Phil to fuck off literally, and told a guy who wins 10 championships willing to sign a ten year contract you'll never coach here again. You are a jag, and so is your moronic 5th grade pal #1BullsDouche.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

I don't live my life by Doug or anybody's standards. I know what happened. To everybody else this is what you said to me 8/12 at 11:30 AM

"And the only reason you hammered on it is because the moderator said it so you thought you could bust him out in some damning power play. Get a life. If you really have to harp on and on about the deplorable mischaracterization of Kobe frickin' Bryant then you need to go nack to the Kobe man love web site you came from, and stop harping on this dead f-ing horse"

I shot back at a question you asked Doug:

"Dude you just asked a question as if you are talking to the Dalai Lama! Give me a break...stop licking ass and generate an original opinion for a change."

That was almost 4 hours later at 3:30PM. I don't think I was the one who started this disrespectful monologue. I know what is right, and I don't care who objects to it. The truth is there. You were so busy kissing ass to protect the blogger that you didn't think I would strike back? Wrong dude idiot!

  • In reply to Houston:

congrats to the former driver of the car that had the tags Mr Pip....I used to run across Scottie a lot back when I worked in deerfield next to the multiplex....Cartwright was the nicest n funniest of those guys IMHO.

  • In reply to drob:

A lot of people talked about Scottie yesterday on the radio...a lot of "No Tippin Scottie Pippen" stories that were very funny. He definitely left his mark in Chicago...

  • In reply to Houston:

Right, not groupie, more like male prostitute as in b*tch who attacks people personally when they never said anything to you.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Name the poster you were talking too in the statement I quoted above...who were you talking about? If you were not talking about me...my apologies, if you were talking about me...suck it!

  • In reply to BigWay:

Phil wasn't invited because he is white and Scottie only invited black people. It's quite typical as we both know.

  • In reply to KenyattaWright:

Several of his former white teamates were invited. Wow

  • In reply to KenyattaWright:

    Kunt-Yall-AHole, I presume,

Hiding behind a moniker bearing the name of an venerated institution(one which I am sure that you never heard of) which would never in a million years accept a character(or I should say lack of character) of your ilk is cowardly.

But then you have proven over and over again that you are nothing more than a foul mouthed, name calling, racist, coward, ever so typical of your species. That would be the species that is always wishing that people who they disagree with would die in a plane crash or from cancer.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Totally agree with you. There's no place for people like that.

So glad you can be the voice for people like me.

  • In reply to BigWay:

I don't understand your anger. I've done nothing but agree with you. We have a lot of the same ideologies and I just want to be your friend.

Why won't you let me in?

  • Tex Winter...another one Krause brought in and insisted on being part of the organization. The Triangle offense was a key part of those championship teams. Just wanted to add that...another point for Krause.

  • I had not heard that before. I understand his stance, but it is too bad that he could not enjoy these experiences with the players that loved playing for him. He will probably regret it later in life.

Also, given the vast spectrum of non players(contributors) that the hall has already enshrined, I am surprised that you think that Tex will never make it.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Tex should be in the hall, for obvious reasons.
