"It's there; I have a consistent 3-point shot now," Rose said Wednesday
night. "You'll see. I just have so much confidence in my jump shot now.
It's coming along so good. It's past even my expectations at this
point."
Those defending Rose were a bit out of sorts to hear the news.
I'll be a bit skeptical until I see it on the court, but if true, Rose just became a hell of a lot more difficult to defend. It also would significantly lessen the need for the Bulls to have a SG who kills it from behind the arc, because Rose and Korver would at least give them two shooting options.
Let us hope.
Rose also passes around your typical off-season love to the new Bulls players and coach Thibodeau. Everything's always sunshine and rainbows in the off-season, but who doesn't love sunshine and rainbows?

I don't care how good it looks in the gym, he's hit 32 threes for his career so far. I'm going to want to see it for real before I declare I'm happy with Brewer being our starting SG.
Wow...if he has a three point shot we can tell the league game over! He won't be able to be stopped. As long as Noah and Deng improve we really can contend to be EC champs!
How exactly do you expect Deng to improve?
Consistent corner 3?
1. Would settle for staying healthy after averaging 20+ games missed for the last 3 seasons.
2. Driving to the basket more and not settling for mid-range jump shot would be great.
3. Improving his 3-point shot would be ideal.
Actually, having a strong first half of the season to be traded for Carmelo at the deadline so Denver can recoup something for him would be ideal, but that's just getting greedy.
Agree with all of your points. I think his health is the biggest issue. When he stays healthy he is a lot better than we give him credit for. While I hate that he takes those early shots in the shot clock his midrange game is very good. I would like him to develope a post up game and add some muscle. The 3pt shot for him will be hard unless he changes his shooting mechanics...hope he works out w/Rose.
If Rose has developed a consistent 3 point shot he will be tough to stop. Now all he needs is Brewer, Barns, and Miller to join the team and the Bulls will be a real threat in the east.
B,B&M would be a nice way to fill out the team, along with Reddick, although Miller might be a bit redundant with Asik coming on board.
Miller wouldn't be redundant w/Asik. Miller can space the floor w/his shot. Asik is merely a shot blocker/garbage man type(putbacks, alley-oops).
You can never have too many big men.
if we get him cheap why not. but I don't want him. see him in ATL.
I wouldn't doubt Derrick but we'll probably have a glimpse of it when they show the Team USA camp next week on NBATV.
Did anybody else become a fan of John Lucas III after the game tonite?! Definitely think this guy could make the squad as our backup PG after tonite... 25pts 3assists 2steals, not too shabby..
I think Lucas' shot was falling, but the rest of his game gives me the creeps. He looks like a horrendous ball handler. And his ball handling is better than his defense.
On one possession, he was bringing the ball up and his man met him at the halfcourt line. So Lucas stops, dribbles between his legs a couple times, then picks up his dribble. Yikes!!
You're not a point guard if one guy at the halfline sends you into tremors. This guy makes Ben Gordon look like Meadowlark Lemon.
I know we all hope for this every year, but if Deng has added range, it'll go a long way towards improving the offense. Frankly, it's really just a matter of him actually taking those shots instead of the long 2's he seems to love. If he starts shooting 3 or 4 three's a game, he's probably worth his contract.
Absolutely. While we as fans are always quick to note what pieces to add, we forget sometimes that our guys' games are still developing. Deng, like Rose, could very well be the answer to 3-point shooting in the starting lineup and if both of them are threats, getting a shooting guard like Brewer (for whom shooting is not really a strength) can definitely work.
I can remember cringing and yelling at the screen every time Pippen would shoot 3s, but by '94-'95 it was clear he was getting better and during the second threepeat he *was* the guy you wanted taking that shot (besides of course Jordan, Kukoc, Buechler and Kerr). Pip was almost a decade into his career before he was a reliable 3-point shooter.
This is why I have faith in Deng and Rose to improve.
Totally agree.
John Lucas III looked good last night..understands the game. He should be signed as back up PG...JJ looks thinner but still makes bad choices...he has no court sense like when he misplays a screen roll on offense by following the screener down the lane thereby making it easy for the defense to collapse around him. I have lost what little hope I had for him. he will not learn
Big miss on Raja Bell in my opinion. Big miss.
The bulls BETTER have something up there sleeve for the 2 guard position because Korver/Reddick is just not gonna cut it guys.
Agree...Guessing that GAR/PAX didn't want to commit on a 3-year deal
Should they have give him a guaranteed 3rd year when he will be 36? In the last two seasons he played 72 games. I'm fine w/letting him go to Utah.
Delonte West is a head case...but his basketball skills are decent for a backup PG option and he can shoot the 3. He may be a good option for us if we could get him from Cleveland who are shopping him.
Ummm... I definitely would not trade for West. Yes he is a head case and The Bulls shouls not put too much into him.
He's going to get cut by Cleveland before Aug. 3. I'm sure would could get him for $2-3 million and he would be an excellent fit with the team (personnel wise).
I hope we stil get Brad(Miller). He and Brewer or Reddick would still be not bad at all.
FYI:
According to Stephen A. Smith, the Bulls have made an offer to SHAQ.
http://twitter.com/stephenasmith/status/18607531904
It was low, so Atlanta looks like the spot for him to go.
Luther Head just became available again:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5381188
Dmband,
Brewer is the target. Trading Johnson for him makes sense.
Johnson isn't tradeable no team wants him right now.
honestly, just sign Delonte West to piss off LBJ.
Plus then we can all wear our "Lebron's heading South, but he's Mom's going West" t shirts.
Great idea! lol
But really he actually has decent skills when given playing time. The guy plays tuff D and, believe it or not can post up PGs pretty well. 10-12min off the bench would be fine for him.
I agree. If his legal issues have been resolved, why not take a flyer on him as a 3rd/4th guard on an incentive based contract. I am not sure Cleveland will let him go so easily though now that LeBron is gone..
I was just going to say the guy I'd be most stoked about is Matt Barnes, but then I was just looking at his stats. I thought he was a three point bomber but it's more like bricker at 33% for his career. And his field goal percentages most years has been around 42%. Still, he's a pretty good one on one wing/SG defender, and can get hot shooting/with threes when you need them. And just turning 30 in March he should have two maybe three years left in him.
The other guy I think would be a great fit for Chicago is.. Brad Miller. Asik is an unproven commodity he shot 50% from the free throw line last season, and this year DraftExpress has his shooting a blistering 36% from the line. Alrighty then. Meanwhile Brad with proper rest especially the second half of the season and playoffs with all the quality we have in the frontcourt just adds another in short bursts big time offensive weapon. If the Bulls don't resign Brad with the lineup we have now I think it will be a big mistake/missed opportunity. Plus he opens the floor with his threes which is huge.
My number one and one(a) guys are Barnes and Miller. If they scored those two that'd be huge. Then either Reddick or Brewer as the "starter" filling in major minutes with Barnes defensively. I'm not sure, but I think Brad wants $4 Mil close to MLE money or even 5 so getting him and Barnes with Reddick's $7 Mil may not be doable. Maybe with those two quality guys who do have perimeter shooting we should hope Miami signs Reddick, and add Brewer instead.
If we got Brad coming back to further gear up a quality frontcourt, and as insurance for an oft injured and unproven question mark in Asik, with Matt Barnes, and Ronnie Brewer that would be an excellent job finishing out this roster IMO.
Sorry typo> hope Orlando signs Reddick
I wouldn't doubt it. I haven't heard much at all about the Bulls pursuing him.
Forget talking about Delonte West. What about the Bulls offering SHAQ a deal?
http://twitter.com/stephenasmith/status/18607531904
Hope that he turns it down! I don't want shaq at all he's not as effective around the basket as he used to be. He slows down the team considerably.
happy I hope you're right on about Brewer.
Dmband,
That should be getting done by tomorrow.
Bell is in Utah and Redick is supposedly heading back to Orlando (Hoopshype).
I love that D Rose is talking up his game a bit. I love the kids humbleness, but he needs to add a little swag.
Re Shaq:
As an alternative, lets just sign a giant sack of potato's. We can simply place the sack in the middle of the lane to take charges and eat up some fouls.
I believe that is a more cost effective version of Shaq.
we do he is a small center- Chris Richard. haha
Exactly. Why do we need Shaq...Asik is a 7ftr that can move better and block shots. I don't see what Shaq adds to our team.
Mark my words, Asik will be out of the league within two years because he is a sack of foreign white potatoes. He's bringing the Turkish potato famine with him.
I have no doubt in my mind that he is going to be terrible. If we don't resign Brad Miller and Asik is our backup center, we're going to be sorry.
Signed. No one knows how Asik will move and block shots at the NBA level yet. Everything I've heard about him is not promising.
How about these guys?
1. Jamaal Tinsley or Wil Bynum as a backup PG for the vet min...
2. Ime Udoka as a backup big man
3. I hope they get Redick. It will complete the team and they can add a Brewer or some defensive oriented big guard.
Miller signs Heat deal, joins Wade, James and Bosh
I agree Orlando making the Bulls and Reddick wait as long as possible sucks. They probably don't appreciate the fact that we made them overpay this year meaning even more money because it's luxury tax for them.
I think Reddick honestly is a gamble, but probably one worth taking because because of his three's/perimeter shooting. He's really never produced much in ppg, and in last year's playoffs shot 39%. But his improved strength, ability to drive, and his improved three point shooting accuracy 40% on a relatively high volume makes him a potential player on the rise.
Still, if I could get Brad Miller and Brewer with money possibly also for Roger Mason, or Redick's $7 Mil and hopefully still Brewer I'd probably be tempted by that first package.
I am not sure how much we take from these summer games. I hope the coaches/FO are smart enough to see what we normal fans don't see. Scoring points itself shouldn't be a great sign. If some team is playing bad defense, most of these guys can hit 3-pointers. I would say how they move without the ball and how they finish when double-teamed and what decisions they make should be more of a criteria than just scoring 15-20 points. In NFL, Detroit Lions went 4-0 couple of times in the pre-season and we all know how they play in the regular season.
I would be curious to hear what Thibs thinks of James Johnson after he has seen him play. I am hoping that he can get a game plan for him rather than make him to try to do everything like Vinny tried him to do and made him confused.
If Rose's 3 pointer is really that good, they'll need a 2 guard that handle the rock. The only way to take full advantage of Rose's offense will be to play him off the ball more. Whenever he got on a roll last year, teams started doubling him immediately when he stepped over the half court line to get the ball out of his hands. Someone else with the ability to handle the ball on the perimeter can allow Rose to catch and shoot or catch and penetrate before the double team comes.
Cleveland put LeBron on him because even when he beat LBJ off the dribble, LBJ had enough quickness and length to still challenge his shot from behind. You'd better believe LA would put Kobe on him for similar reasons. But if Rose can play off the ball in those situations, he can run guys like that off screens to get more open looks.
And since Rose is the PG, the other thing he'll have to work on is how to recognize and then attack double teams. What's the point in drawing multiple defenders if you can't get the rock to the open guys? He'll have to be able to beat double teams off the dribble and with the pass to get the ball to other scorers.
I wonder if he will be a catch and shoot 3pt artist. Most PGs with 3s are most effective creating for themselves:Nash, Baron Davis, CP3, Deron Williams. I don't think we necc need a particularly great handling SG I mean a decent ball handler is always nice but not as neccesary as them being great shooters. Rose will shoot the 3 out of neccisity to keep the D honest and then burn them when they play him close. And yea he def will have no prob kicking it out to the open man--he did it so much last year but no one could hit open shots! Hopefully that all changes this year.
I don't think he'll need to be a catch-and-shoot artist but it'll be a nice addition. Nash, CP3, and DWill are pass-first PGs who can score at a high level when needed. Of the PGs you listed Rose is more similar to Baron Davis in that he's a scorer first who can pass very well. In fact, Rose reminds me of a bigger, better-passing Tony Parker or even a bigger, more unselfish Iverson (in his prime, of course). Rose is at his best looking to score first and then finding the open man. Thibs has to accommodate that to get the most out of him.

via The Morning Journal...
Yeah Derrick Rose said he's got the three point shot down. If he does become a superstar this season it will also be because as most 24 ppg and up scorers do, he'll be getting to the line more often. Wade and LeBron are tops at 9 and ten FTA's per game.
If you have the ability to be a scoring force then that is what you need to be no if's, and's or, buts.
I'm going to make one more comment about this, and then I'll stop waisting my breath on some of you guys who are just being delusional. If Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah continue to progress resigning them is going to have to happen sooner rather then later. No good team has two emerging forces including a superstar, and another all -star along with a talent layden roster, and keeps those assetts staying under the cap/not paying luxury tax. Taj Gibson's going to be costing some serious money too.
My point is simply if we stay on the course of no luxury tax while being very near contender status the two do not jibe. Resigning Noah might come sooner then you think. Derrick as well. I really don't care who thinks it's not necessary to spend over the cap. You're just from a payroll standpoint of cheap labor emerging from rookie contracts avoiding the reality of the situation. To stay under the tax and have Derrick, Joakim, Boozer, and Taj, shit, that's going to be Derrick what $12 Mil at least in his first year, Noah $10 Mil, Boozer $17 Mil, Taj $5-6 Mil. That's $44 Million right there. Throw in Korver $5, Reddick what $5 Mil by then. That'd be almost our whole payroll right there without taking into account Asik, another backup big, another decent backup guard.
If somebody said, "Yeah, Boozer probably would have come in thinking we were going to be pursuing a contender roster by staying under the cap. And as these bargains emerge from their rookie deals like Derrick and Joakim if we want to keep a quality contender roster indeed the luxury tax will not be an issue."
B.S.
That's my whole point, and if we stay under the cap as Doug suggested Reinsdorf may very well do there's no way we keep a roster of that quality intact. It is so ridiculous that with the Bull's track record, and the very soon emerging costs or resigning Noah and Rose that nobody views this as a pressing concern.
I really just wanted to post my own concerns, and that would have been the end of it if other posters particularly the most originally named not #1Bullsfan who apprarently has no life wouldn't incessantly have to chime in opn my posts. You guys who think the cheap atmosphere of the Bulls, and no assurances that we are going for it now with a loaded roster, no assurances out there that we will for the next couple of years spend to win. That that doesn't effect FA's in a negative way? Regardless, it sure as hell is going to effect the Bulls in a negative way meaning staying under the cap, and resigning Noah, Rose, and Taj with Boozers contract will mean a quality scoring guard, specialists like Korver off the bench, depth of bigs like Miller, it ain't happening.
I've lived with no luxury tax like everybody else for a long time. But now we have attempted to load our roster, and go for it. This will be one hell of a short lived run if we don't get a change of philosophy/assurances by Reinsdorf that he'll pay the tax at least for a year or two. Again, I wouldn't have posted this sentiment more then once or twice at best if people just wouldn't have had a f-ing fit about it, and just minded their own g-damn business. And acquiescing to Reinsdorf not spending when we finally do have a shot is really kind of a puss stance to be honest with you.
I guess you don't recall what Doug wrote the night of the James gang jilting. He said now was the time for Reinsdorf to pony up, and spend over the cap, and not leave us in the lurch. It was time to go for it with a talent layden roster. That's what Doug said.
I'm simply agreeing with his own stated sentiment before he apparently came to the realization of who he works for, and changed his mind(?)
And you guys patting old Jerry on the back, and having to keep criticizing me for only reiterating the site hosts own g-damn snetiment is just as gay as it f-ing gets. And this means you #1BullsFan aka harping pain in the ass. Get a life, and quit replying to my posts like a nagging ex skank.
Stop posting and I will stop replying.
You have continuously made it seem like it was the Bulls fault for not swooping down on the "supervillains" of the NBA like they were the friggin NBA superheros to foil their evil plot. I merely responded that your assertion was ridiculous. They could not stop what was happening.
YOU wanted Boozer right? Guess who your beloved Bulls brass signed to a 5yr 75mil deal. Not one day later were you still harping about being spurned by the big FAs and BLAMING the Bulls. Your negativity is so depressing!
Reinsdorf has paid out big money in the past...what he paid Jordan in the final 3 years here is more than half of today capspace(AND THAT WAS 12-15 YEARS AGO). He said he will pay for a contender...so we should focus on rooting/hoping for the current stars(Rose, Noah, Boozer)to lead us to the 2nd round and the ECF so it is apparent that we are contenders. Then if Reinsdorf goes back on his word we can bash him THEN...but NOT NOW!! GEEZ
I was checking the college numbers on John Lucas after his six for six three point barrage, and 25 point outburst.
The dude while producing a legit four assists a game carried an A/TO ratio of 2.0 increasing to 2.4 and 2.5. That is the shizz bomb. While his rebounds and steals were very underwhelming the fact that he's 5'11 obviously plays a role in that especially the boards.
But Lucas shot three pointers in volume averaging six and seven attempts per game while shooting near 40% every year but one. In his final year shooting 232 threes about seven per game he averaged 41%, and his free throw percentage in the high 80's.
If he has solid lateral quickness to defend other PG's this guy might be somebody the Bulls should at least consider putting on their roster. Especially if the hot shooting continues. Lucas also shot 45% for 15 and 17 ppg in his junior and senior year.
"Everything's always sunshine and rainbows in the off-season, but who doesn't love sunshine and rainbows?"
Vampires?
Albinos.
..Although i bet they wouldn't hate rainbows as much if they weren't contingent upon there also being sunshine.
Zombies.....
All this waiting on Reddick. I wish they would get another talent/depth on the roster either Brad(Miller who in shorter minutes is a very quality bench big), Matt Barnes also quality and a very good defender, or Ronnie Brewer. If they sign Reddick or the Magic resign him either way they still need to pick up one other quality guard and a big like Brad would be excellent too.
I need to clean my pants.
I'm loving it! How can you not love the effort and determination of drose? This guy "has it"
THE ARC vs. AND 1:
I have no doubt DROSE's 3pt shot has improved. The kid is a worker.
That being said, I would love to see him get more AND 1's, as his FTA's need to go up.
And better defense. Plus Brad brings bigs out of the lane with his legit perimeter/three shooting game. In limited minutes(if Asik can actually play) then I just think Brad becomes a potent high efficiency momentum builder on the court. Really much more valuable in this role then in extended minutes. Seriously with limited minutes/rest then at times he can play like an offensive force/very good player/big out there.
RUDY FERNANDEZ:
With the Portland Trailblazers set to add Wesley Matthews and his big contract to their roster, I would think that RUDY FERNANDEZ can be had more than ever now.
I agree!!! Rudy definitely wants more PT and there's no one on the Bulls roster currently who could start ahead of him. Young, athletic (i.e. highlight reel dunks) and a 3-point bomber. Rose needs a new alley-oop partner ever since we traded Tyrus...plus there could be a premium on SPANISH players right now ;)
But seeing how Portland is stacked up front and on the wings, I don't know who the Bulls could realistically trade to get Rudy. I'm leery of giving away the Charlotte pick as it looks like it will be a high one. I just hope any kind of deal with the Blazers gives us Joel Pryzbilla -- exactly the kind of defensive-minded, legit 7-foot banger we need behind Noah. Oden's health is always an issue, but that's why they locked up Camby...and Camby is better than Pryzbilla.
And I still want Brad Miller re-signed regardless.
919,
Portland also just drafted Elliot Williams.
There is NO QUESTION that RUDY FERNANDEZ IS AVAILABLE.
add Starbury n Iverson to the mix..Tinsley is not a dumb player, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the bulls....I suspect the real issue will be if n when the starters need some games off....that's when the ugliness will shine
I just wished if it cost Barnes(or even Pietrus) they were coming here. Again I just hope Miami doesn't get Barnes. That would not be good. If we don't get Reddick, I hope Ronnie Brewer(and Brad Miller) are coming to Chicago.
its all coming clear now.
The bulls resigned Pippen! Problem solved!
take that D Wade!!!
I just read about Scottie becoming a team ambassador especially for local charities/events for the Bulls. I don't care what people say about the one game he got mad with Toni taking the last shot/wouldn't play or whatever else, Scottie from every Bulls team member was their favorite teammate. It's just hard for these guys to have such joy playing the game, and then be left with what(?) to do after their careers are over. Not everyone is cut out to be a broadcaster or coach(maybe Scottie will do that as an assistant some day).
He came so close to leading the Bulls(Perhaps but for Hue Hollins) and Portland to championships without Michael. What a great player he was to watch. A somewhat poor man's Magic, but with killer D, and a few years where he was as good a post up threat and three point bomber for any guy his size ever.
Scottie's Hall of Fame speech will definitely be on my watch list. And I know he won't f-ck it up(laughing) like Michael did. And Mike better bring his snotty ass /be there too. Along with that ultrafine babe he was with. Sh*t(laughing).
Delonte West could be a decent backup lol But i dont want to deal with everything that comes with him.
Id say sign Brewer now, Morris Almond from the summer league team, re-sign Brad Miller. And with the money you have left...either sign a vet backup PG or just get bigger up front...Kwame Brown or something.
Oh ya, as for D Rose 3 pt range...love it. I cant wait to see it! That will only make him that much more deadly and our team as well.
Let Reddick GO!
The magic are supposed to be announcing the matching for reddick tomorrow... I really like brewer coming off the bench for his D but we need a starting 2 that can stretch the floor or the paint is going to get so crowded that's why I don't see why everyone is so against Reddick
Anyone see the Sports Illustrated Cover.
I thought he was "the King"...sure looks like D Wade is the new King
http://the305.com/2010/07/14/heres-the-cover-of-this-upcoming-issue-of-sports-il lustrated-with-wade-james-and-bosh/
What a chump/idiot Lebron is. This cover says it all.
We would have to trade for him and we don't have trade bait(James Johnson won't work). So how can we get Fernandez? I would love to get him it just doesn't seem possible.
JJ REDICK UPDATE:
A report on Hoopshype says that Orlando plans on matching the offer sheet from the Bulls.
Like Mitchell W said it looks like(HoopsHype has it) that Barnes is going to Boston or Miami. I just hope he chooses Boston. Giving Miami another very good defender with size who shoots threes is not what we need.
