Per a tweet from ESPN's Marc Stein:
ESPN.com sources: Rockets reach terms with C Brad Miller on three-year deal worth nearly $15 million.
Last year, Brad Miller had a total rebounding percentage of only 11.4%, and he shot only 43% from the field. He played all 82 games for the first time in his career and recorded over 2,000 minutes, and was a good role player for the Bulls; however, he made about 7 defensive rotations all season due to his non-existant foot speed, and became a constant threat to foul. He also didn't even shoot that well, hitting on only 38% of the 16-to-23 foot jumpshots that have been his mainstay for most of the last decade.
Therefore, doesn't that seem like about 1 year and $8 million too much?

Who are we going to get to flagrantly foul Rajan Rondo now?!
Sam Young?
Kenyalla,
No, unlike Dickey, Sam Young would block Rondo.
Rob Kurz anyone...haha.
heck no lol
Couple things here....
Bulls might really like Asik an might think he ready to go right out of the gates....he has played against and with nba talent so he might be alright.
Brad Miller just wanted to get more money, so he left
Bulls didnt offer Brad enough
ASIK BETTER BRING IT THIS SEASON!
M.O.N.,
OR WHAT?
Or we are SCREWED
Cliff Ray n Tom Borewinkle aren't free agents?
I GOT IT.
Fesenko from the Utah Jazz...why not? They are grabbing up every other FA from that team.
How about Jerome James? lol
Hey ill still take Kwame lol I know he sucks but at least he can rebound and foul people hard lol Maybe help keep Dwight out of the paint. Plus he does have a pretty good body to him 6'10 275 i think.
I was looking at the summer league scores and Sam Young put on a show the other night lol 35 points lol
Bulls might also just bring up Ogilvy or Samuels from the summer league. Who knows.
Bulls should of traded Hinrich for a pick a couple years ago...we could of landed JaVale McGee or Mareese Speights (not saying he is great but he is decent)
sam young yeah.. but our dleauge players? thats being desperate.. i rather bring back pargo -_- .. we shoukdve trade hinrich & jj for nick young nd still had the cap room at that time.. get real players now.. no more tryouts.. if we want to get great n be a top team n not a underdog threat n actually know our goal is championship or bust then moves like this wont help.. get good players.. make trades dont pray on a mcgrady.. your better off bringin iverson off the bench.. be a top team not a good soild one w dleaguers or hope guys can do things they wont.. lakers n celtics n now heat n orlando go after quality .. guys like butler isnt goina cut it honestly.. if u go that way ylur better off goig young n going for courtney lee or something..
You're acting like there are a whole lot of options out there. If no one wants to trade for Deng who else do we trade to get good players? Taj? JJ(no trade value right now)? I mean you have to be realistic we can't just go and get a ton of solid players.
Teams are built around stars. The lakers are built around Kobe and Gasol...take anyone else from their starting lineup and put them somewhere else they wont be as successful. Boston is built around KG, Pierce, Allen(I doubt Rondo wld be as good anywhere else w/his horrible shot). As it stands, our team is being built around Rose, Noah, and Boozer. Rose creates and has elite mid-range, Boozer rebounds and scores inside, Noah blocks and rebounds. All rose has to due is get better at shooting the 3 and a lot of problems are solved. Once he becomes a threat at 3 then he is played closer and then he can beat his man off dribble and score or pass. Pick and roll w/Rose and Boozer will also be a thing of beauty. Good defense is also key and Thibs will help that. D wins championships not 3pt shooting. Noah is a vocal leader and so is Boozer. We are just fine all we need is a few decent backups(who tend to play better around star talent) at PG and C.
Ya i was thinking the Baby Shaq guy too but supposedly he has already been promised a contract by the clippers no matter how he does in the summer league. I read that on hoopshype i think.
Joe Smith isnt bad, more of a PF and we already have Taj. Kurt is to old imo but he does bring experience and bball iq. Shaq...who knows. Kwame i like...i mentioned why earlier. An i dont know much about Tolliver.
Is there any other bigs in europe? lol Maybe Spain has somebody...those guys are usaully good!
No way the Bulls could've competed for that offer to Miller, so another shrewd move by management. As for his replacement:
- No to Shaq: too slow and too expensive
- No to Kwame: no offense and not physical enough
- No to Tolliver: too similar to Gibson and not veteran enough
- No to Smith: been there done that and not big enough
- YES to Thomas: physical veteran, unafraid to scrap, consistent perimeter jumper, team player, and probably cheap
I'm sad really sad, I wanted Brad for another year, but I can see how the Bulls don't want to offer that much money for him, that's crazy money. And I can see how he can't pass on that much money.
Sure he would......mmm.
evil,
Don't be a HATER. Watch Sam Young play.
Mr. Crappy....
#1 You're not the boss of me.
#2 I can hate whomever I want.
#3 My comment wasn't directed at Mr. Young...it was directed at your less than stellar basketball sensibilities. Take your pick between claiming to know D-Wade was coming to Chicago, being all up into Derrick Bayer's butt-hole last year and your insane trade proposals that have us getting something for nothing as proof....
...but by all means, don't stop. You have the right to be so far up Sam Young's colon that you could tell us all, in detail, what he had for breakfast three days ago and I have that right to say you're wrong......so......YOU'RE WRONG. :)
(Not saying Young can't play...just saying we probably can't get him for Johnson.)
lol
I'm worried about our 3pt shooting. We have enough bigs to lead the NBA in rebounds. We need a backup PG and SG. Both need to be shooters. Alston, House, and Roger Mason Jr. are the guys that stick out. We don't have to worry about anything other than getting guys that space the floor. Rose needs room to drive, Boozer room to post, and Deng and Brewer room to cut. Kurt Thomas is fine as the 4th / 5th big.
I am worried about our shooting in particular. Except for Boozer being better than Taj and adding Korver, our shooting is worse except for hoped improvements from Deng, Rose and Noah...
Brad stretched the opposite big man out making it easier for Noah/others to grab rebounds. If we have Asik or somebody who can't shoot from more than 10 ft, then the opposition big men will hang around the basket preventing us from getting rebounds...
Dickey Johnson strikes again.
Game #3...
2/14 from the field...8 fouls...bad defense...2 costly turnovers.
Side Note:
* Derrick Byars and Samardo Samuels played real well.
Samuels was a beast tonight. But, these is the summer league and he was doing all his work on Cousins, who's only a rookie so I don't know how much it all really oounts. Byars hasn't done as well as I thought he would do. I still think we should go after more FA's cuz none of these players from the SL really impress me.
Vedo,
When Derrick Byars gets 20 mins. of action, like he did in Game 1 and Game 4 he looks like he could stick with the team.
His stat-line last night looked a lot like last pre-seson.
- 8pts., 4rbs., 2asts., 2stls, and 2 3pt.FG's made
That's ideal.
If he plays well today, I would hope he gets an invite to TC.
Furthermore, I beginning to think the Dickey Johnson doesn't have good trade value. Therefore, it might do him some good to spend an extended period of time in the D-League.
SUMMER LEAGUE KEEPERS:
- John Lucas III
- Samardo Samuels
- Derrick Byars
- Morris Almond
- Trent Plaisted
* I would like to see all of those guys get invited to Training Camp.
Bring on Asik, and Samardo Samuels and reevaluate the big situation at the deadline. We barely got out of a lousy contract with Redick by the skin of our teeth, no reason to go chasing Shaq for an even worse one.
Stupid question time: anyone know what happened to donatus motiejunas?
He didn't declare for the draft and is playing in Europe next season. He should be available in the 2011 draft.
I think we sign K. Thomas, as our last big guy. His experience will help Noah and Asik out over time. Go after C.J. Watson as our PG backup, and still sign Barnes, at G-F to add some toughness on the team. Those three will end up costing us about 6 mill this year, and then work on trading out JJ as the season developes.
Hate to see B-Rad go, but I absolutely agree that his deal is 1 year and $7M too much, especially considering he's about 34 now. Though I suppose age might not be as much of a factor for him, because it might be physically impossible for him to get any slower... but seriously, since speed isn't his game, losing more of it probably won't matter as much. And he was healthy last season. But what concerns me is his declining percentages
Kwame Brown...haha.
If we do in fact go after Shaq (i dont think we will) at least he can play against the big centers in the league...other then that i dont want him lol So what do we look for now? A big that can score a little? A bruiser?
I think Asik will be alright for us....i was watching some clips online and the guy looks to be a solid player. He was playing against some nba competition too. I was watching a game where they were playing spain and he did pretty well. He also had Hedo Turkuglu on his team and the european guy from the Bucks...Illyosova. So ya, lets hope he is good.
Luol deng & 2 1st for trevor ariza & shane battier.. sign keyon dooling.. dooling, brewer, ariza&battier under thibs makes us the best perimeter defense..n now getting someone off the bench to clog the paint & score gives us a great defensive team who was already the best rebounding team.. no mcgrady or howard.. they both cant shoot.. if mcgrady comes then deng has to go.. as of now were still as bad as last years three point shooting wise.. rose may shoot around 33 or 34% .. we still have no scoring.. we still need a bench.. and like last year everyone thought we were set.. with guys like pargo & etc.. im not buying it again.. we need really good players.. not ok guys.. guys who have good all around games.. defensive stoppers,3 point specialist.. energy guys.. vocal guys.. hard workers, size , scoring n playmaking ability.. we still only got one inside scorer.. 1 3 point shooter and 1 playmaker.. one true defensive stopper on the wing and he can even start with rose n deng.. we still need to build a team.. rose, boozer, noah & taj are good starts.. korver n brewer are good signings.. but after that what else.. if u could give away dengs contract for two defensive starters both take threes n sign dooling another defensive 3 point shooter.. thats four shooters on your team.. four defensive wing players.. a vocal leader & worker in battier.. size and length with ariza n brewer on the perimeter.. n now the team would only need a scoring big to go along with the defense of taj and omer off the bench.. trade james johnson and ? for glenn davis? energy, size n scoring.. just saying..
a team of
rose
ariza
battier
boozer
noah
taj
brewer
davis
korver
dooling
& asik makes a hells of a team.. all with a trade of luol & jj and 1 f.a signing..
Battier is 32 years old...he will be slowing down after a long career. Ariza is a streaky shooter who hit the jackpot because of Kobe. He is like Jud Buechler from the old Bulls who looks great next to a great player.
If we get rid of Deng...we better get a quality SF who can do multiple things and not just defend or shoot jumpers. Deng is better than Ariza/Battier and we have Korver to do what Deng is usually not good at...(shoot 3 pointers)
And Boston is not trading Glen Davis for James Johnson...Glen Davis has proven in the playoffs and no way there are trading him.
We need somebody at the PG or backup SG position..somebody like a Duhon for PG or somebody like Flip Murray for backup SG position..
so korver is going make up for all of our threes or is luol goina get korvers jumpahot because hes backing him up? n how when ariza averaged 21 for the first two months n dropped because of brooks breaking out n martin coming over..the point is..deng for battier & ariza n getting rid of his contract ia better than bring mcgrady or howard or having brewer start.. n i"ll give it 20 games before people start beggin for luols head again..we have two starters that need insurance..luol has no quality starter after him... we have no two guard who fits with derrick or even have depth.. no big who can score besides boozer n one shooter on the team.. korver wouldnt make up for luols shot how whwn luols not on the court wih korver. u need a player next to u to make up for your problem not behind you.. defenses will never change schemes until the bench comes in .then our starting five would be unstable because we gotta attack until a sub comes in? that doesnt make any sense.. that whys reddick was over brewer.. he fits between rose n deng.. deng doesnt fit next to rose so by gettin rid of him for talent n getting by his contract at the same time is a hell of a deal.. deng isnt better than ariza and battier together.. the davis thing was just made up .. but my point is someone like him.. we cant sub noah for a guy who plays just like noah.. defense wont change.. sub noah for a shooter or bruiser... not a rebounder shot blocker.. makes no sense.. dont sub rose for another non shooter or defensive player.. sub for a keyon dooling type.. dont put brewer between rose & deng cuz we still would have no shooting .. brewer wih korver off the bench is nice.. keep it like that.. the only position that shouldnt change is the four.. but defensively boozer defends inside and taj defends outside.. the four is our only best combo .. rose needs a dooling.. noah needs a scorer or shooter.. brewer need to come off the bench n play alongside korver.. we need a team that fits.. throw different looks.. as of now everyone does the exact same thing as there partner .. just like last year.. nd we blamed salmons nd kirk..teams will force luol to shoot anyways.. he still wont make em.. so luol has no choice anyway but to shoot..does anyone realize that deng cant fit with derrick or are people once again satisfied with this team just like this? n so what if battier is 32 we wantes miller n he plays just as old as his jersey number.. ask lebron or kobe last year how old they thought battier was.. add ariza and dooling with a scoring big off the bench and then u have a legit top 3-4 team in the east.. no lower..
Just in case you haven't noticed or you are coming down with Mr Happy disease, Ariza does not play shooting guard, he is a small forward, Just like Sam Young.
These 2 positions are not identical and neither are the players best suited to play them. Think Michael and Scottie, and dont try reversing them.
Joe Smith?
Kurt Thomas?
Shaq?
Kwame?
Tolliver?
I don't know.
Fesenko is actually not a bad player lol he did pretty well in the playoffs this year lol
csharp,
It's chain reaction.
Boozer recruited Korver.
Korver recruited Brewer.
Brewer is recruiting Fesenko...haha.
That would be CRAZY.
Isnt there any good euro bigs out there? I could of swore greece or somebody had some good bigs.
How about that guy called "Baby Shaq" from Greece who is on the Clippers summer squad...Maybe we can trade for him? He is a big body...I don't know if he can shoot though?
csharp,
Greece's best big (Bourousis) re-signed with Olympiakos.
I think it is better not to pay multi-year deals for backups who are 35 years old. But they definitely need a big body behind Noah given Noah's slim frame. Brad is a unique player:1) Big Body 2) shoot jumpers/3 pointers 3)shoot free throws well(rare for a big man) 4)play decent defense
These attributes keeps him in games especially at the end of the game. Unless Noah can shoot free throws better or develop a jump shot, he is a liability on the offense during the end of a game.
I am not sure who else is out there who can do what Miller does? Is there anybody on the tail-end of a roster with that kind of potential?
Dang....i really thought Brad was going to stay here. Bulls need a big now. Who the heck is out there not named Kurt Thomas. lol
Rose, House or Alston?
Brewer, Josh Howard? Tmac? Butler?
Deng, Korver, James Johnson
Boozer,Taj
Noah, Asik
We need another big...i dont know anything about Tolliver...is he any good? How big is he?
Tolliver sucks, I've seen him play a little with Golden State and he doesn't really impress me.
The signing of Boozer will do wonders for the Bulls frontcourt scoring threat. That's why I was more interested in a backup center that could potentially makeup for the shotblocking that was lost in the Tyrus Thomas trade. I like Noah and Omer a lot more going forward because they can/should be able to do a better job protecting the basket.
I would like to see the Bulls sign a young big at third center position. I think Parakhouski, or Samhan would do just fine bringing up the rear on the roster.
Samhan has signed in Lithuania with Zalgiris Kaunas.
Ok, guys it's time to bring BIG SHAQ to the UC. LOL JK, I think we'll stay away from him.
Here is what needs to be done IMO. I think we need another backup @ SG. The only person that makes sense to me, that's available is Josh Howard. AT PG, I would like to see Rafer Alston here. I know everybody is in love with Eddie House, but I thought about it and I think Rafer would be a better fit. House doesn't really strike me as a PG, he's more of an undersized 2. I don't know any big men that are available, but I have heard of Kurt Thomas. I hope there are other names out there though.
Overpaid! But that shouldn't be surprising the way this offseason has been going.
If the Bulls want another big with 3pt range, like Miller, I suspect Anthony Tolliver will be the guy but Kurt Thomas may be coming too.
how is dengs contract bad now? name me a few at his position that produces like he does all around n is now the third for fourth offensive option ..
offense=
rose
boozer
kick out
deng
deng is nolonger overpaid.. hes one od the best defending sfs and is top five in rebounding as a sf.. my only problem is his offense n shot decision.. he will be better than next season regardless.. last year he missed half a season with new players.. comin off of injury and couldnt work out much ..couldnt play with salmons who needs the ball and doesnt pass.. and now his strengths are only goina improve under thibs(rebounding and defense) and yes deng is a lockdown defender.. besides artesr n battier who checks lebron, pierce or carmelo as goo as deng? hes now our third option and will avg probably 18 or 19 & 8 or 9 with an improve shot, defense and confidence from being better... dengs contract next year barring any injury he will probably n most would agree if he does will be at the level of his contract or exceed it by alittle.. his only problema are ball handling, injury and shooting the three.. he litterally has no other problem.. n playing with rose and boozer he wouldbt have to dribble becuase their good passers and will get doubled.. he just has to get a three point shot this year and by the deadline he could be a a big piece for carmelo since alot of teams either have nothing to trade except contracts or dont have a team he will stay with.. improved deng, taj and two or 3 future firsts will get melo by the deadline if he doesnt stay.. deng will be better if not way better barring any injury..
Deng's contract will stop being bad when we trade him for something of value.
As long as we are unable to trade him, even for cap space his contract sucks.
If everything goes as planned and Deng is healthy and looking at all the contracts being handed this off-season...we can assume that Deng will be more tradeable during Feb 2011. The key to Deng is playing him for 30-33 min...anything over that, he disappears in the fourth quarter.
How many big guys can actually play, 4 seems to be the absolute max, a three man rotation is most effective. Noah, Boozer, Taj and Asik is certainly enough bodies. Asik is supposed to be relatively athletic a rebounder and a shot blocker, that is all that we really need behind Noah.
While I like Miller generally, signing him meant virtually no time to develop Asik. Brad went to his favorite coach and a team that needs him badly enough to pay him for 3 years. Sorry to see him go, but the Bulls are moving forward, and Noah/Asik, and Boozer/Gibson are the future.
