Bulls also interested in Derek Fisher

A report from ESPN Los Angeles states that another name has emerged on Derek Fisher's list of potential sutiors; ours.

Lakers free agent point guard Derek Fisher has a meeting scheduled with Miami Heat president Pat Riley on Saturday, according to a source close to the situation.

Fisher's preference remains to re-sign with the Lakers, but he feels the need to explore his options and listen to Riley's pitch after the Heat landed free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Miami also re-signed Dwyane Wade and were reportedly closing in on Mike Miller.

[...] The Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets have also expressed an interest in the five-time NBA champion.

As discussed previously, the Bulls could use a point guard; they also don't have a lot of veterans right now. Fisher, with 14 years and 5 rings to his name, is most certainly that.

However, the articles goes on to talk about Fisher's usefulness to the Lakers. It specifically quotes Kobe Bryant.

"We need to have him back, it's as simple as that," Bryant told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin at his Kobe Bryant Skills Academy on the UC Santa Barbara campus. "It's not a question of if he will be back; it's a matter of when.

"I don't care what [the cost] is. ... They need to work that out and get him back because his significance to our ballclub and to me cannot be understated."

Kobe's right. He should return to the Lakers. Los Angeles, and their triangle offense, are tailor made to Fisher's talents. In that offense, he doesn't have to bring the ball up, run any plays, or do anything significant on offense. (That includes making layups.) All he has to do is hit open jumpshots, not defend too badly (which is getting increasingly hard to do), and not make too many mistakes. He can do those things well, and that's why he must stay in Los Angeles.

Because he can do nothing else any more.

  • How is his daughter? I thought the reason he escaped from his Utah contract was to go to a city that can cure his daughter's illness. I guess Chicago and NJ have those facilities. How about Miami?

  • In reply to boogernights:

That is the excuse that Fisher used to escape from Utah & sign with Kobe. He signed with Kobe just days after exiting Utah.
His daughter is completely cured. It was announced shortly after he signed that his daughter no longer has cancer or any other issues with her eye.

  • All these guys would have been great if he had a good starting player at SG. We are trying to get/had either decent offensive players(Reddick, Nate Robinson, Korver) or decent defensive players(Hinrich, Fisher)...This tells 1st or 2nd round exit with 45-50 wins...
It is not gloomy as Cleveland but we will not be playing in June anytime soon. It is nice to have depth but after you have a good starting 5...
Reddick is the most promising of the lot.

  • Speaking of rumors of interest. Poops World has Shaq interested in Atlanta and the Bulls or the Bulls interested in Shaq for 2 years.

With Asik all but signed, what do you think of adding Shaq, obviously he would come knowing that he is backing up Noah.

With Boozer, NOah, Taj and Asik, does not seem like there would be playing time for everyone if Shaq comes. Can't see the Bulls spending the kind of money that Shaq would want, at least the MLE, I presume.

Still, I have to admit it caused me a bit of a buzz when I read about it.

  • In reply to BigWay:

No Shaq!! He's too old and slow...the offense dies when he touches the ball.

  • In reply to BigWay:

If Shaq comes here for the min or a little more than the min...he is worth it. We need somebody who can drop Wade on his butt(not break him) every time he comes to the hoop..
But Shaq might be more of a nice guy nowadays...also, he might give stories of what went on the Cavs locker room in 2009-10 season...

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Imagine what happens to Noah when he needs to go to practice everyday guarding Shaq.. He would become a beasttttttt

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Fisher really? i doubt he would even look at us....he wants to 3 peat

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

He really see him joining the dark side miami

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

What the hell is going on here,Derek Fisher, If it had not been for the lakers no one would have heard of Derek Fisher! Lake had so much talent that it didnt matter, had he went to any other team (including the Clippers and The Grizzels) he would have been a practice player! Each loss the Lakes got went though DF,Teams let him shoot, play off of him then steal it, Notice he's not in the close games most of the time and if he is, Kobe is handling the ball..... Now go back and look how fast Utah gave his ass back to the Lakers............. Dont do it! Though God Bless his family well , but stay in LA! GET ANDRE!
