Stephen A Smith reporting LeBron, Bosh and Wade all to Miami

Per his own radio show, and he later came on ESPN 1000 and said it again, here's the realgm thread with more info:

A recap of his ESPN 1000 interview written by Cloudyfuture:

- Got a couple of calls over the weekend and was told that is in all likelihood james is going to mia with bosh and wade

- james wants to play with riley and they build enough space for 2 maxes and wade

- james is desperate to play with athletes more so wade

- This is a fact if I am wrong I will come back on and eat crow

- isiah could of helped the knicks

- james wants to play for a defensive minded coach and dantoni lacks that

-
james wants to play with 2 other stars and win multiple titles (talked
aboutJordan needed Pippen, boston the big 3, kobe and shaq, kobe and
gasol)

- Does not think johnson will get max from Bulls but knicks will offer him max

- Heard that johnson and amare are a pair and that if where one goes the other will follow. BOTH will go to new york

- Bulls might get shut out in FA

- I stand by my report and this is a foregone conclusion

Well this is obviously the worst case scenario for the Bulls and the NBA.

If this goes down, you'll see Johnson/Amare go to the Knicks and the Bulls left to mull over David Lee, Carlos Boozer and what else to do with their cap space.

That said, Stephen A. Smith reported LeBron was going to New York last week, so I'm not going to get too carried away yet.

Still, I was never that carried away that LeBron was going to the Bulls, so I still think the whole thing is a toss up.

  • That won't happen in Miami, but don't be shocked to see it happen in Chicago...FYI.

I know something, but I can't say right now.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Are you hearing that Chi is close to a trifecta?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Doug do myou believe that Stephen A. wants to be differnt than everybody else? He has always had a Chicago Bull hatred. I met him when I covered the 1997 Finals and then for some reason declared the Bulls and Jordan old and ready to be had by the Jazz. I won a great bet from him. But it seems that he loves to go against conventional wisdom just because...

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Take Miami seriously, but it would be foolish to believe Smith about the Bulls being shut out especially. Sure, he has sources, but the whole foregone conclusion thing is ridiculous, especially given that his sources seem to contradict every other reporter on the planet.

Again, I'm not being cocky enough to discount the heart of the report, that the Heat could steal the show, but I'm blown away by how seriously people are taking Smith.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Hopefully LeBron and Bosh are not reading all these blogs, theories. They might be more confused than ever and might land in Minnesota:-)
I am sure they will do their due diligence and talk with everyone and then decide.
The fight is between the Bulls and the Heat...That's for sure...There are the only two organizations who have gone to the playoffs in the recent past. All the past history of 10 years ago don't matter so much. The current core of players is what LeBron/Bosh are going to play with...

  • In reply to MrHappy:

For this to be true LeBron would have to be signing a shorter term deal or this wouldn't make more sense than going to Mia and secondly the Heat would either have to have a deal on the table already for Beasley or some of them, if not all, would have to be willing to take less than the max.

Even then a team of Bron, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers and all min salary players would be still pretty even to one with Bron, Bosh, Rose, Noah, and mostly min salary guys. I don't know we'll see soon enough.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    HINT:

Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, Pau Gasol, Michael Jordan, respect, young fandom and championships.

Those 7 things could very well influence the top free-agents decision.

    We'll see.

Something HISTORIC might be going down in Chicago. That's all I'm saying.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

At this point unless your source is actually LeBron or Bosh themselves it's just not worth much.

Nothing personal but that's how I view this SAS report. He said "several league sources" but presumably different league sources sent Bron and Bosh to Chicago already. And he sent Bron to New York last week.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Up to this point I think that most of us here only thought of you as a ritalin adled fool, but now it is becoming clear that you may actually be insane.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    HINT #2:

    http://twitter.com/dwadeofficial/status/16445036056

Check the date and time. What happened on that day and at that time?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

He got sick... it happens to everyone. Your attempt to read between the lines is useless unless at that time Bron called him and said I'm going to Chicago and Bosh is coming too.

Oh and somehow (I guess you have a wiretap on Wade's phone) you know this for sure.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

You smelled one of your farts?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Kobe got his fifth ring, 1 behind MJ, Phil's retiring and you ujust can't let Kobe get the sixthe ring... Can't figure out gasol. So in essence, is this to stop Kobe?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    yeah don't get it.

  • By the way, Chris Bosh officially opted out.

    http://realgm.net/src_wiretap_archives/67515/20100628/bosh_officially_declines_player_option/

  • Has any of Stephen A Smith's rumors ever been correct? This guy is garbage and nothing but. He's just trying to get his voice heard in all of this. Just a few weeks ago he was saying his "sources" were telling him that LeBron was going to New York.

  • What I'm hearing through the vine is that Wade is terrified that Miami may not have much of roster to compete. If that's the case, it may be telling why he's going to meet with other teams. It seems to me he just mow understood that he is not the lead dog in the chase. I see it like this, Bosh, LeBron, even Wade deesperately wants to win, but they need pieces called role players to help them get there. While DRose is an All-Star, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, and even a Brad Miller on the cheap will take a lot of pressure off of Bosh and LeBron. Miami cannopt offer that immediate possibility. Plus if STAT, Boozer or evrn JJohnson wind up in NYC, the road become even more tougher with a thin roster. With that being said, I still feel that Chi has the inside track. But don't be surprised if Wade bolts Miami if things get serious. I believe his destination is the soon to be called Brooklyn Nets....

  • And when I mean inside track, I'm referring to LeBron and the Bulls.

  • Amen, MrHappy is crazy.

  • If Deng goes in an an S&T for Johnson and mybe a thrid team?

  • The Miami Dream Team. This I have feared for almost a year!. Somehow it is easier to think of the Miami trifecta than Bron to the bulls. If Bron really, really, really want's to win, joining Wade and Bosh will seal the deal. Just hope it doesn't happen.

  • In reply to supercesto:

I don't think that will be the case. I would say that Wade in injury prone and has no team! What would ther bench look like? Beasley and Chalmers? They would have no balance nor depth. Besides, Wade in a hard 28 or 29 yrs old? he's good for maybe another 3 maybe four years with his stylr of play. Just look at Iverson and how he hit the floor so much. Three years ago he was still gettin it done. Now? he's a has been begging his way back into the league...I just think Wade has carried on way too much and he may be on the downside quicker than some may realize. And trust me, Those free agents may already know that about him...

  • In reply to supercesto:

My thing is, too many reports have all these guys thinking of signing with the Bulls and if nothing happens... it will be the 2000 free agency all over again. This sales pitch to all of these guys have to be a grade A pitch and something that these guys can get a grasp on right away. I would definitely have Rose on the trip along with Thibedeau. These two along with GAR and PAX need to sale the offense to Lebron and what type of offensive schemes that they're going to run because Lebron like to have the Ball as well as Rose. They may need to run something like the triangle offense as to where everyone touches the ball. It worked for Scottie and Jordan so I do believe it will work for Lebron and Rose.

  • Over the course of his entire FA contract, will Wade really be better than Noah + Rose?

  • In reply to nucahx:

Good point. This will be one of the major questions which Bosh and LeBron will consider if they have to decide between the Bulls and Heat.
There are some plusses and minuses for both sides of this issue:
    1. Noah + Rose is younger and have a large window of opportunity. But in the same token, they don't know what it takes to win in a big-time playoff series(ECF, NBA Finals etc..).. Wade has been through it and they might feel he is more desperate than Rose+Noah for winning now..
    2. They might be scared of the fact that Reinsdorf might not spend the money to extend Noah/Rose in case things don't go as planned(winning a championship) and might say we need to rebuild/have patience...
    3. The "How to Win", "Need to Win now" is coming from a fellow player rather than from a coach/executive/owner..It is easier for LeBron/Bosh to relate to what Wade is saying than what Paxson/Reinsdorf is saying.....

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

I think the "How to win in the playoffs" concept is overrated. Usually the best team wins. Teams don't lose because they are young rather than it is rare (as in never happened) for a team to acquire great talent composed off all young players.

To put this in perspective the Thunder did not lose to LA in the playoffs because they were young but because they weren't talented enough. You can say that was because they were young but that would be begging the question.

If you took all of the best young players who have never really won anything, that would be Durant, Roy, Rose, Evans, Lopez etc, and put them on the same team that they would dominate on their way to a title. Talent wins out not "how to win."

  • In reply to MADman24:

That's not true all the time. Look at the Dream Teams which failed in the Olympics, world championships prior to the last one. It takes some players who have to know how to manage the match-ups,luck, some level of chemistry...Off course, talent is almost the most important asset...but most teams in the top four have almost equal talent.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

I don't mind the speculation against us. I don't want the Bull's front office walking into discussions feeling over confident. They still have work to do.

Deng will have to go either in a sign and trade or to make space for better fitting pieces. We still have a better core than everyone else. We also have more assets to trade - Deng, Taj, Charlotte pick - than anyone. I feel we still have a move or two that have to be done to make Chicago a no-brainer.

  • In reply to kbar17:

Deng was not traded for a reason as of yet. He is the trump card waiting to be played. LeBron and Deng play the same position. Like Deng or not, he is a quality three in the NBA. Someone will entertain his contract and his ability. I feel that he and the Charlotte pick is what's going to pull everyone to the Bulls ledger. That pick is a protected pick and can be shopped with a plyer like Deng. Who do you use it on? Joe Johnson in a S&T. Bron will come as a FA, Bosh as a FA.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

I agree with you. We are among the few that believe Deng can be traded for a S&T or additional cap space. A big reason the Wizards wanted Hinrich was because he was a professional. Deng carries himself in the same manner and is more productive at his position. I'm sure the Bulls have some options for moving Deng if it became necessary.

If Bosh demands a S&T, then we would look odd trying to offer Kirk to Toronto. That would be a 3rd PG for them. Deng would be a better fit because they want Hedo gone and they have nobody else to take that spot.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

I am afraid Steve A never was definitive about New York. He said Lebron was leaning to signing with the Knicks. In contrast, he seems pretty sure on Lebron going to Miami.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

Phew, glad another team has taken over as favorites to sign Lebron ;). Chicago teams do not handle the favorite tag too well.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

I'm not worried, in fact I'm already calling bs, Johnson and Amare didnt get along in Phoenix, why would they go play in New York? Somebody please get that Crow ready....

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

    Exactly!

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

If Chicago miss out on the big three, I wouldn't mind filling the say, 30M cap space with Luis Scola (8M), Ronnie Brewer (5M), Anthony Morrow (5M), Matt Barnes (5M), Travis Outlaw (4M), Rasual Butler (3M) or something like that.

  • In reply to boogernights:

Man...are you kidding?! Scola, Brewer, Morros (who in the world is that anyway), Barnes, Outlaw(!!!), and Rasual Butler?!!! On the Bulls? And we're going to do what, be in the lottery next year?! Gimme a break. You must be a Cavs fan.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

SAS is one of the biggest blowhards in all sports journalism. This guy loves the sound of his own voice so much so he needs to SCREAM EVERYTHING & put the wrong em-PHA-sis on the wrong syl-LAB-les just to be unique & different. This steaming pile of horse manure is no different. Nothing is a forgone conclusion. He should eat crow already just for saying something that moronic. When this FA period is over, I will personally drive to Philly (I think that's where he lives) & shovel a pile of dog crap into his pie hole & THAT'S a forgone conclusion.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

I hate to be adding so many posts, but it's my day off, and this whole "future being decided with possible championships in the balance thing" has me a little obesessed.

One thing is I wish I knew more about Chris Bosh. Playing for a team out in limbo like the Raptors, I've just hardly ever seen him play or in interviews. The thing that impresses me about him are his steady rebounding numbers(unlike Amare).

I don't know, despite the rumors and B.S I just get the sense that Bosh is favoring Miami. And he just seems kind of hollow. I know Paul Pierce cheap shotted him the gut, and he just laid there, and did nothing. Amare is a player, how else would Phoenix get to the Western Conference Finals? But his rebounds in crucial games against L.A. being six and five?

I'd hate to miss out on the big man we've always needed, and never had. But these guys all are more slashers then true low post bigs. Maybe, despite his game five no-show, but still the impressive competitiveness of LeBron and likewise Wade are what we need. I think Taj is much better defensively and offensively then he's getting credit for, and surrounded by stars could be a very legit starter. Who is argued about as the best player? Wade, LeBron, and Bosh...? Let's talk brass tax with Wade and LeBron and realize that if they really want win four, five, or six championships they can share the ball with a budding superstar in D-Rose, and Noah and Taj as great role guys, and Thib's with multi NBA Finals sparkling D. They could truly rule the NBA if those three joined together without doubt especially if Noah and Taj continue to put on the muscle and represent as reboundinhg and defensive bigs. They are after all two of the greatest shot blockers in NCAA history. I say we go after Michael and Scottie, I mean LeBron and Wade. And go after them hard. They are smart. And they know Derrick's a superstar in near waiting with Joakim as a truw playoff warrior. Gar/Pax get it done.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

And who the hell wants to invest their future in a team with no center, and a headcase in Beasley? Or you can have D-Rose, Taj, and Noah. For those two if they are pursued in tandem and realize what it would be joining Derrick and the Bulls core this should be a no-brainer. And that trio with Derrick already nearly atop the league in jersey/commerical/fan appeal and D-Wade and Lebron in a commercial platform/market like Chicago?? Get it done.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

If LeBron, Wade, & Bosh went to Miami to play with Chalmers and 8 minimums, couldn't we do better? LeBron, Bosh, and Johnson could team up with Rose/Noah. We'd have to S&T Deng, Taj, James Johnson for one of those three to make it work. They'd have to take less money in this scenario, but they'd have to take less money in Miami too.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

If they all choose Miami, Lebron will never reach the height of Jordan, Kobe or Wade. The Heat is Wade's team. Lebron would be the sidekick. Lebron would be coming to play with Wade. Does that sound like Lebron? If so he is NOT a competitor. You think Jordan would do that. If you're a competitor you want to beat the MAN that beat the best. If Lebron chooses the Bulls, he will be the MAN. Rose will be a superstar, but since it's early in Rose's career it will appear that Lebron brought the championships. Obviously, those 3 would rule Miami. They would win multiple championships. They may take less money but the income tax would offset that. There are a ton of benefits to Miami. However, this is the easy way out and because of it their legacy would never compare to Jordan or Kobe.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

Despite my dislike for Deng as a player, I agree with your analysis on him as a trade chip, and that he is of more value to us right now to facilitate getting one of the three free agents, most likely Bosh, secondarliy Johnson than he would have been had we salary dumped him to get more cap space.

  • In reply to AlgernonHPenn:

While not necessarily putting any credence in what SAS has to say, I have always maintained that Miami was the team to fear because they already have Wade, Pat Riley could sell sand to a Saudi, South Beach is the sexiest NBA destination, no state income tax and they are the 3 best players by a mile, so logic would dictate that they would all want to end up on one team and rule the NBA.

The only hope of this not happenning is if Lebron doesn't want to play with Wade, then the question is who does Bosh choose, Wade or Lebron. As long as we end up with Lebron, I will be satisfied with whatever else we end up with, Johnson, Lee, Boozer, Morrow, Pietrus and Gortat, Kevin Love...

  • In reply to kbar17:

Hope the Bulls are planning well. If NY meets LeBron first and they get the idea that he is not coming there....then they might snap up Joe Johnson and Amare. And if LeBron/Bosh goes to Miami or LeBron stays with the CAVS...we are in big trouble..

Hopefully, they don't get screwed by LeBron telling them I am interested but I need a week to decide...Do they give him a 48 hour window to sign or take his act somewhere? I am sure GAR/PAX have thought of all this but executing this is the biggest issue...Things might change based on one guy ...Bosh/Amare deciding on someplace and the Bulls might be looking at their Plan F of salary dumps for their capspace..

  • In reply to nucahx:

These ESPN and whoever else they work for "reporters" today from Bucher to Smith all have reported multiple stories from unnamed sources that are untrue. There simply is no accountability. it's really just to make money off of sensational headlines. Honestly, we're living in an era of moneymaking, made up stories more so then journalism. i.e I could give a sh*t what SAS says.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Bingo. Remember folks during thjis time a lot of guys have to fill time. So, it's not surprising to me that these guys become fiction writers...

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

You got that right. There's no accountability in what passes for sports journalism these days with the few exceptions like Michael Wilbon. Steven A. Smith turned into a no-cred, showboating screamer years ago. He's funny to listen to in small doses for entertainment value only.

  • In reply to nucahx:

Lebron and Bosh will not sign with Miami, maybe Bosh will but Lebron I doubt it. These rumors are getting crazier and crazier. I for 1 will be glad when it is all over with. Bottom line... the Bulls need to cover all bases in their sales pitch to Lebron. I'm am quite sure Wade has been in Bosh's ear and with the Miami lifestyle which I think he wants, will have him signing with Miami. These other teams offering max deals to Joe Johnson will make him sign with the highest bidder I do believe. The Bulls need to show what type of offense they will run and if they will have some descent 3 point shooters and good shooters overall. The defense will be there but they need to sell the offense and how it will be ran. Everything else is in place and they need to show that they are willing to keep everyone around for the long haul by paying their players. Hopefully the Bulls will not get shut out on the big names.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Jerry R. said in July 2009, he didn't mind going nover the luxury tax it was going to be for the right expenditure. So in other words, if we are playing for championships and the players and coaches are committed to that, he would reward players when thier extensions came up. Remember, Jerry R. gave jordan damn near the entire cap for the '97 and '98 seasons ($33 and 36 MM I believe). He also paid Rodman on average $10MM for those years as well. So Jerry will pay if it os for titles....

  • even if this does happend we would need to make a move..

    lets trade for blake griffin..

    off season..
1.one of the big three free agents
    2. make a trade
    3. continue to build this team slowly then

stay away from boozer & amare..david lee is okay but we would need a guard to go with him.. him & noah is a nice frontline but we dont know how good lee is defensively because he played center for the knicks and was just a rebounder on that end..

    trade noah & 2 1st for blake..
rose & blake..and fill out the roster with the max contracts..

    stupid idea?

  • I think I get it, there's a shortage of Xanax in the world and everyone is going crazy...

  • I can't believe people will flip-flop over LeBron coming to Chicago because of what Steven A. Smith says! Are some of us so weak minded and easily influenced by him that we just take HIS word?! Are you kidding me?!

He's just saying that AFTER the report that LeBron and Bosh to Chicago was a "done deal", to probably bring some balance back into the mix, and of course to hype himself.

Somebody get that "crow" ready for him that he promised to eat when LeBron and Bosh DON'T go to Miami. They can't even affort 3 max FAs. They can only afford 2, and Wade is one of the 2. Come on people, think for yourselves and stop letting every report sway you back and forth.
