LeBron: Cleveland has an edge

Per CNN:  -- edit here's the link to the full interview, courtesy of Mr. Happy -

King: Do you lean at all toward the place you know the best? I mean
do they have an edge going in...

JAMES: Oh, absolutely.

KING: ...your home team?

JAMES: Absolutely. Because, you know, this city, these fans, I mean,
have given me a lot in these seven years. And, you know, for me, it's
comfortable. So I've got a lot of memories here. And - and so it does
have an edge.

Could LeBron actually stay in Cleveland?   I suppose anything is possible, but I find it extremely unlikely.

Either one of two things is going on:
1: LeBron has decided to stay in Cleveland and just wants the attention for awhile.

2: He's leaving.

I mean if it was really a choice, but Cleveland had the edge, then he'd be a lot more definitive than this, because he already knows everything there is to know about Cleveland.  You either like them or you don't.

You know the players, you know officials, you know the city.   You either are in or out at this point.  It's not like Cleveland has anything else to add in free agency to entice you.

Still, if the man says Cleveland has the edge, then I guess you can take it at face value.

    Wade aint coming

    We'll see.

How about if we make a bet.

If Wade comes to the Bulls, everyone on this site who doesn't believe in Wade has to permantly leave the site.

IF Wade does not come to the Bulls, then Mr Happy has to permantly leave the site.

Doug, you need to start a sign up blog

    Mr Happy vs D Wade.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

What I think this says is if Lebron stays, its because he is truly afraid of being orphaned by his home state.

IT is signifigant but it would take alot of personel changes to keep him there. Alot of trades and alot of moves.

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

+2....this just has NBA Agent all over it...Why would LeBron just go on Larry King Live!? I think this was a statement that lets Cleveland know...he loves them but its the organizations fault if I leave...not LeBron.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

He has to say that. That's all there is to it. We're still a month out. A lot is going to change.

  • In reply to Dileg:

Ya an its not like he is going to say ....Im going to play in New York next year....OR i really like Chicago!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I'll make this one thing clear. The Bulls better not sit and pamper this queen. Paxson, Forman and JR better be on LBJ's front step on July 1st at 12:01am. Talk to LeBron about why the Bulls are EASILY his best option and offer him a TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT contract offer. If he waivers and says he needs more time, then they better pack up and move on to more realistic options. We better not sit around and wait for this drama loving queen to tour around the NBA cities and eventually re-sign with Cleveland.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Mrhappy get off Wade's j*ck he's not coming to chicago, his pyscho ex girl lives here, he's taking shots at Chicago trying to deter his friends from going there, and has disrespected the organization, he's one of the free agents you know isnt going anywhere because he has said several times that he isnt leaving.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

You say that you know something that no one else knows about Wade signing with the Bulls. I say B.S. Wade is not signing with the Bulls and it is really getting tiring seeing you post that he is. If Wade does sign with the Bulls I will be more than HAPPY to apologize to you but I am sure that I wont have to worry about that.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

    THIS JUST IN:

Dwyane Wade has settled his cases with his business partners in Miami.

    http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/37341479/ns/sports-nba/#storyContinued

It was said that he paid significantly less than the $25 million his ex-parters were after.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

His mom, his sister and his kids also live in Chicago.

Plus, he has his Foundation, his Trainer and his Agent here.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    QUESTION:

Could it be possible that Dwyane Wade was TESTING Chicago fans' LOYALTY when he made his comments about the Bulls' organization?

    Don't hold it past him.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

It might be the same way LeBron was testing Cleveland fans. It is obvious that Wade is 99% sure of staying in Miami and will only move if nobody from Bosh/LeBron/Amare/Boozer/Joe Johnson go to Miami. I am pretty sure one of the above will go to Miami.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    THIBODEAU ULTIMATUM:

New Orleans wants an answer from him soon.

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/66940/20100601/hornets_want_answer_from_thibodeau_before_finals_begin/

  • In reply to MrHappy:

If that's the case, I think they lost him.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

They were a lot of people who were fans of the Bulls/Jordan during the 90's especially kids who like/play basketball. It might mean something for a young man like LeBron. It is like if you are a young kid who like space/stars/science...you want to work in NASA. Hopefully, it is that feeling for LeBron for Chicago.
I am guessing it will sound good to the ears of Bulls fans, Cavs fans, Heat fans, Knicks fans on how they interpret.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Lebron staying in Cleveland is the only acceptable reason for the Bulls not getting LBJ.

  • In reply to boogernights:

I agree... and even THAT is not acceptable!

  • In reply to boogernights:

ALLL HOPE IS LOST! LETS EXTEND HINRICH FOR A MAX CONTRACT BEFORE WE LOOSE HIM TOO!!!!!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

The way that leading question was phrased from folksy(embalmed) Larry King of course he's going to say Cleveland has the best shot/an edge.

This story is just going to churn on and on until July 1st. And then things will really heat up. My predicition: it will sound like he's coming to the Bulls, then it will really sound like he's coming to the Bulls, and then... he'll go somewhere else(probably Miami with Wade just to spite us).

Really other then his talent, do I think he has an appealing personality the way Jordan did?(please no jabs Doug- just push the ignore button). No and hell no. He seems as contrived and hollow as anyone from this parent abandoned, no college, stay inside, mega TV generation. His dancing bullshit on the sidelines is just the tip of the (turd)iceberg with this guy.

Sure I'll be thrilled if we get him. I'm sure he's probably not all spoiled/bad by any means. Maybe with guys like Joakim and Derrick he can turn over a new leaf. Maybe he wants to turn over a new leaf. One thing is for sure he needs someone to stand the f-ck up to him. We'll just have to wait and see. But I'm not going to lose sleep at night over this. I'm just going to assume this being Chicago that he'll find some reason to go elsewhere. And then if I'm happily shocked.. cool.

    LBJ TALKS ABOUT THE BULLS:

    (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: Did you go to basketball games as a kid? Did you go see the Cavaliers play?

JAMES: No, I didn't. It wasn't affordable to go to a Cavs game. If you could catch a few on the TV, you'd be lucky.

KING: Were you a Cavs fan?

JAMES: Growing up? No I wasn't. I was a Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan fan growing up.

KING: So the president's suggestion might carry weight, right?

    (LAUGHTER)

JAMES: It may, it may carry weight.

KING: So why the Bulls and not your own team?

JAMES: I was just, wow, I mean, Michael Jordan was just my inspiration. I mean, the things that he was able to do out on the basketball court, I loved. Everybody wanted to fly like Jordan, pull up and hit a game winner at the sound of the horn like Michael. You wanted to do commercials, you wanted to have his shoes. You know, everything that he did, I wanted to do.

KING: When did you first meet him?

JAMES: I met Michael Jordan, my first time, I was in the 10th grade. I went to Chicago and they played at a gym called Hoops. That was the first time I met him. It was like he was walking on water when he came towards me.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Sounds like he loves the idea about possibly joining Chicago. Just think about it...when you were a kid, you had a favorite team....and in most cases that team is still your favorite today right!?

I think he is really excited about Chicago honestly. But he needs to do the politically right things right now. He is letting Cleveland know how much he loves them. So if he does end up leaving, he is not the bad guy.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Plus....Do you guys really think Larry King knows anything about LeBron James...other then he is a basketball player. All these questions were probably talked about with LeBron's agent and LeBron. He just wanted to send a message imo.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

After reading the transcript...it sounds like he is leaving Cleveland but you never know. He says that it is not about the money cause his family is set. Just something to think about... he talks about how Rondo is the key to Boston's success even with the three all stars on the team and how Rondo was the forgotten man in beating Cleveland and that their team was just better than his. Lebron sounds like he knows that he need a good point guard in order to have some success in the NBA. Lets hope he is smart and he knows that he needs D-Rose.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Wow...oh ya! lol Mo Williams couldnt stay in front of either one of Rondo and Rose.

  • In reply to Reese1:

    No thank you? Gee wiz...haha.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Love the Larry King interview already! If you're a Bulls fan how can you not get (cautiously) excited? If you're a Cavs or Knicks fan how can you not start projectile vomiting? LOL! We're a long ways away and things WILL change, but for now I'm happy and optimistic.

With the 6 players under contract, Kirk (29) is the oldest. After that Joakim, Luol and Taj all turn 25 this year. If LBJ joins the squad he'll turn 26 in December and Derrick will be 22 before the season starts. This is definitely a young core that can grow together and dominate the league for the next 5+ yrs.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

This pretty much proves my contention that Lebron would/will come to Chicago because Jordan was here, not that he would stay away because he is afraid of the Jordan comparisons.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

FYI guys, Hinrich could turn out to be an extremely valuable asset around the trade deadline in 2012(or 2013 if there is a lockout).

We would likely be over the cap(due to our successfull free agent binge this summer)but might be able to leverage Hinrich's expiring contract into a really good player with a bad contract that some loser team is looking to dump.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Ya or you can just dump Hinrich and use his 8-9 mil to spend on somebody else. 8-9 mil. can get you a very solid player or 2 players.

This just seems like LeBron's agent said...."Lets go on Larry King and let the fans of Cleveland know that if LeBron leaves....its not LeBron's fault."

  • In reply to MrHappy:

So does his ex wife who e loves so dearly, his kids who he barely see's and the organization who he seems to dislike so much.

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

+2 Forget Wade...if we are going after anybody else it needs to be Bosh or Amare. I still think LeBron is 100% in game though. This whole Larry King live thing just seems set up.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    HINT:

Pay attention to this quote right here from Dwyane Wade.

And now Wade gets to tend to other matters: His looming free agency, which he'll declare for by July 1, and ongoing divorce and custody cases in Chicago, where the NBA star plans to return Wednesday.

Wade said his sons, ages 8 and 3, now "get their daddy back."

  • In reply to MrHappy:

If anything Wade is going to try to recruit LeBron, Bosh or Amare.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

He also spends plenty of time in Chicago during the summer...he doesnt need to be here anymore...he has plenty of money to come home whenever he wants too.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Well, just because he knows what Cleveland has to offer doesn't mean he's decided yet. It's possible that he's still drawn to stay in Cleveland, and is just waiting to see what other teams do before he decides.

I don't think this is a simple team choice for him. It's probably two stages, should he stay or should he go. Then if he decides to go, where. And I'm sure the two decisions influence each other, so I tend to doubt he knows for himself, yet.

  • In reply to msalivar:

In my opinion, I think this statement is for the fans of Cleveland. If he leaves its the organizations fault...if he stays, its what he wanted to do all along. LeBron stays a good guy either way. I think thats what this really is.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Bulls need to make their pitch to him and lay everything in front of him. Make him realize that signing with the Bulls would automatically make them contenders. Everyone knows that the Bulls have the best team out of all of these other teams with cap space that's why there is a lot and I do mean a lot of hate for the Bulls on all of these other sites. It has gotten so bad that I can barely read some of them cause I would want to respond to all of them in defense of the Bulls. So I think the Bulls just need to present their best offer to him and don't waste any time moving on to Bosh cause honestly that's who I think the Bulls need to make the hardest push for cause Miami will be pushing strong to sign him. Lebron is starting to sound like he is softening towards resigning with Cleveland. Bulls... do not waste time with Lebron. This is why Lebron has trouble winning in the playoffs, he cares too much about what other people think and feel about him. He needs to take notes from Jordan, Kobe, and now Wade cause none of them care about what other people think of them. In other words... Lebron needs that killer instinct and that assassins mentality. until he gets over Cleveland maybe hating him if he leaves he will never win anything cause I just do not see Cleveland doing anything if he does resign with them. They would have to basically gut the team if they did try to get one of the all star free agents.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Should we get the straight jacket out for you, when you finally wake up from the dreamworld that you live in and realize that Wade has no interest in playing for the Bulls.

And if Bosh is the key as you keep saying, then when he decides to join the Bulls, won't that guarantee that Lebron will want to join the Bulls also, thus guaranteeing that Wade will not be able to come to the Bulls even if he wanted to.

Unless of course the Bulls brass uses the same drugs that you do, and would turn down James to sign Wade.
