Latest FA rumors; LeBron -> Chicago; Bosh -> Miami; Johnson -> ??

Per New York Times/Jon Rothstein's twitter via Realgm Wiretap:

An NBA general manager reportedly told Jon Rothstein of MSG Network
that Chris Bosh will certainly sign with the Heat as a free agent.

"This has been planned for a long time," the GM said. "Chris is going
to Miami."

Another GM reportedly told The New York Times that he thinks "it's a
done deal" that Bosh and LeBron James will sign with the Bulls.

So GM's are speculating on who is going where.   The interesting thing about the Bosh to Chicago quote is that the GM muttering it was one of the six GMs competing to land LeBron making the quote all the more interesting.

Let's just hope it wasn't Gar Forman getting cocky.

How much to put into these rumors?   Hard to say.   The buzz of LeBron to Chicago seems quite palpable.  I'd say the Bulls are probably legitimately in the lead, but not nearly so much as many Chicagoans think.

As for Bosh to Miami, it seems highly likely to me.   There hasn't been a lot of local buzz from beat reporters or local media about Bosh.  When I hear Joe Johnson's name over and over, I think there's a reason for it.   National media seems to believe in the Bosh + James to Chicago theory, but I'm not sure I'm buying in given the lack of local buzz.

The Knicks are visiting Joe Johnson first.   An interesting choice because if they lock up Johnson at the max, then that doesn't really seem like a move that would make James an overly likely signing for them.   Joe Johnson + LeBron James + Gallinari + Chandler?    That's not really a very effective sounding group.

The Bulls also have a lot of rumors centered around Johnson, intriguing for much the same reason except that Noah/Rose up the ante of their core.

Hearing about Johnson in this regard makes me think teams (especially the Bulls) are really nervous about Boozer, Amare, and Lee.   All three would be ahead of Johnson on my list, though Boozer/Amare have higher risk factors while Lee is less talented overall.   Still, I'd like the fit so much more, especially if I'm the Bulls and have Derrick Rose already.

It makes me wonder if the Bulls persue Lee, Boozer, or Amare if they whiff on the other big names.

Just three more days, and all the rumor will start to turn into fact.

  • Leave a comment...Couldn't you be hearing the name of Joe Johnson over and over locally because they think it's worth it to pay him the max and not because he's actually coming here?

At this point I would probably say if LeBron comes here then we also get Bosh. Not because they are a package deal but because Bosh will want to come here because of it. Having already said he will be waiting on LeBron I would have to think LeBron coming would heavily lean Bosh toward Chicago. We shall see soon enough.

According to the Daily Herald, the Bulls' management would like to meet with Chris Bosh first.

    That's a smart move.

I have said all along, "Bosh leads to..."

Fill in the blank...DWADE, LBJ or maybe even MELO.

According to his agent, Chris Bosh has decided anything yet.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Whether that's true or not, you won't hear any free agent say anything else.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I bet MO CHEEKS chose not to join the staff because he wanted the Head Coaching job.

    DISAPPOINTING...all around.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I think he also has 1 more year on his contract. So maybe next year he will come on over.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

IMO if im Chris Bosh...i go where LeBron is going. If you cant beat him...join him.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I just read from Joel Brigham on Hoopsworld that because the Bulls are planning to sign two max guys(realizing it'd be one million less $15 something apiece unless they trade Johnson or Deng for the rest) that they will have to renounce their M.L.E

I thought all the teams spending to the cap still would have an M.L.E to use possibly on a guy who wants to play for a winner like Ray Allen or Mike Miller. Doug, do you know if this is true that we won't have an MLE to use, or is Brigham wrong/full of crap? And if he's right why haven't we heard this before now?

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

We've known this all along. Teams under the cap cannot use any exceptions in the year that they are under the cap. They have to fill the roster up to the cap, then wait a year to have an MLE. This is why I am worried that we will not be able to bring Asik over this year, and have absolutely no size and depth behind Noah

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Those are legit questions which hopefully the Bulls are prepared with concrete answers. That's what Chris Broussard was saying on ESPN that the Bulls have to close the deal. Hopefully, the White Sox don't distract Reinsdorf's attention in the next week. The Bulls need everyone to pitch in to sell the Bulls and not lose to "Mr. Slick"...Pat Riley...

The NY media/fan base has been hopeful/waiting for LeBron for 2 years now. They will do everything in their power to put out any kind of BS to sell the Knicks to FAs. This class of FA is a probably once in a lifetime event in the NBA...All we can do is speculate and read crazy tweets, theories for the next few days..

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Bosh has said that he doesn't want to play a secondary role to anyone.
I know we want LeBron, Bosh to come to the Bulls. But if that's the case, Bosh might be the third person on the team after LeBron/Rose. Will he accept that? How will the Bulls sell him on that..? That's what will matter to Bosh if he will come here. They can say that Rose is unselfish etc.. I think Bosh will accept being the second best player but probably not the third best player on a team.

That said, they can also sell that Wade will be 29 next season and he has only a three/four year window to win championships while he has a bigger window with LeBron/Rose..

It is fun reading that every statement about FA is immediately denied within a few hours.
Also, another option for the Bulls might be to get Dirk Nowitzki for a 4 year deal and then go after LeBron for a 4 year deal.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Umm...WHO CARES ABOUT MO CHEEKS!!!! We have bigger fish to fry like getting Lebron and Bosh before Miami does...if that happens we will be a dynasty. Mo Cheeks won't make us a dynasty guy.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Also, the Bulls with Derrick as the only guard on the roster are beyond thin. If after signing two max guys with Derrick, Joakim, Taj, Deng, and James Johnson all are slots would have to be for the minimum? Is that correct? If so how are we going to get any other guards who are worth anything for the team? Even if we signed Johnson we'd still only have two guards.

I was thinking we'd use the MLE possibly on a Ray Allen or Mike Miller. Then use what little money was left on trying to get Maurice Evans, Marquis Daniels, and lower salaried, but still decent player/bang for your buck guys. Now it sounds like not only will we not have an MLE slot(?) but all the other guys will have to be minimum so where will are other at least decent/acceptable guards going to come from?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Yea, the possibilities are endless for the Bulls. I'm so happy management put the team in this position it so exciting! Too bad we at least have about 2 weeks before we will know anything real/concrete. On July 1st it is just the beginning...

  • In reply to mdot1986:

I think most players that verbally commit won't flake out so most should be known this time next week I would assume.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Mo Cheeks is not some super-genius who is the second coming of Phil Jackson. If Thibodeau is going to be successful, LeBron, Rose, Bosh, Noah is what matters...Thibs already has a plan for Rose...
I hope Thibodeau is not focussed too much on assistant coaches right now...He needs all his time on selling his plays, game plans to LeBron, Bosh, Joe Johnson etc...

  • In reply to MrHappy:

You guys are all so optimistic. Don't be shocked if the Bulls strike out like 2000, and we end up overpaying David Lee, and he returns to form (13.5/9 a night which will make Deng's contract look fantastic). And just wait and see, pretty soon we're going to be looking for a guard just like Hinrich.

Has anyone heard anything about what Washington is sending us in return? Nick Young? Anything? If we gave up Hinrich and Seraphin (who I would've have been very happy getting with the 17th pick) for NOTHING, I am going to be pissed. I just don't see Lebron or Bosh coming here.

And for the record, I don't want Lebron or Bosh. I hope Lebron stays in Cleveland and Bosh goes to NY to be a perpetual loser. I don't like either one of them. Even though Wade is a cockhead, at least he is a goto guy you can count on to get your points when you need it down the stretch. Neither Lebron nor Bosh are #1 options on a team that is going all the way. Oh, and neither is Rose.

  • In reply to jt563905:

Wow, do you watch basketball? You know, NBA basketball? Don't like Bron, don't like Bosh, don't like Rose... it's looking more and more like you won't like the Bulls for the next decade.

But seriously, there is absolutely no good reason for a fan to not want LeBron on his/her team. And there is absolutely no reason the Bulls will be looking a Hinrich-like guard. Unless we want a guard with the following offensive game: bad spot-up shooting, no ability to create his own shot, the worst around-the-rim finisher in the NBA, over-dribbling, and surprisingly bad in fast breaks. I am actually not a Hinrich hater, but to say that we "gave him up for nothing" is ignorant... we gave him up for a chance to become the best team in the NBA for the next 10 years.

  • In reply to Sitnah7:

Exactly!!!Tyrus_Rodman, your screen tells me all I need to know about who you value as premier bulls players LOL! Get a clue man...Lebron and Bosh trump Wade every day of the week!! Rose is a passive player but he can average 20ppg in his sleep if he knew he was the go to guy. Wow, gotta agree w/ you watch the NBA??

  • In reply to mdot1986:

I do watch quite a bit of NBA basketball, and living in Ohio, I happen to see more Lebron than anyone else on this website. So, please, pull your head's out of your ass. I've seen the guy for the last seven years a few times a week.

Bosh is a prima donna and so is Lebron. Just because I objectively do not believe that Rose, Bosh, or Lebron are goto guys on an NBA-championship-caliber team does not mean that I don't like them. I like them but let's face the facts: Lebron and Wade are the only two FA's worthy of max contracts. And I've yet to see anyone in the league match Wade's 2006 playoff run. I also watched Lebron disappear, or even actively throw games, against the Celtics this offseason. I watched him baby his sorry ass off the court against Orlando without bothering to be a "sport" like the rest of the league, because he's the "Chosen One." I will have no respect for him whatsoever if he leaves Cleveland. I already have very little respect for him as it is. I don't believe he'll ever win a championship because of his attitude, not his inherent talent.

Also, neither of these guys play defense worth a shit. Lebron plays defense for stats, i.e., his great from behind blocks and steals. He doesn't play man defense worth a damn because he's "above" that. After all, he's basketball Jesus right?

I can't say much about Bosh because I haven't seen him all that much, but from what I've heard, the guy is not worth a max contract.

And this is without considering that we have cheapskate Reinsdorf owning the team with the new CBA looming over the horizon. Think about the future cap ramifications. Jerry Buss does not run this organization. Rose and Noah are coming up for extensions soon. Is it feasible to pay these four guys?

And please, let's be honest and real here, do you really think we're going to get two of the top three FA's? My god. Do you guys forget that the state of Florida has no state income tax? Do you forget that it has weather that makes Chicago seem like a frozen hell? Do you forget that New York is New York and has some allure to guys that is beyond my comprehension? Seriously guys, this is 2000 all over again. Quit getting your hopes up so high.

About Hinrich: We have one guard on the roster and he doesn't know what the word "defense" means. Hinrich, while on an inflated contract, was an ideal third guard. He does nothing great, but a lot of things well. I guarantee you that we gave him up to overpay other guys (cough Lee cough) that will not be worth their contracts in a short period of time (i.e. after the new CBA, which happens to kick in in about 12 months). "we gave him up for a chance to become the best team in the NBA for the next 10 years." ....CHANCE...which can amount to nothing, buddy.

Please guys, clue me in to the last team that put together it's two major pieces through free agency and ended up winning the title. I'm unaware of one. Maybe that means I don't watch the NBA.

#1Bullsfan: my screen name implies what Tyrus needed to focus on if he wanted to be a premier NBA player. If anything, it shows my overall understanding of the NBA. Wade is a better than player than either Bosh or Lebron. Rose did know he was the goto guy and while he put up 20 a game, how many shots a night did it take him? How efficient was he? Not all that efficient. Hell, if Hinrich was taking 18 shots a night I guarantee he'd average 16 a night.

Sitnah7: I do agree with your analysis of Hinrich's offensive game.

  • In reply to jt563905:

I guess you know more than the rest of the NBA world. B/c Wade is not all that you believe. What about in 2007 when Lebron took NBADL players to the finals...Wade could not do that as he showed this year. I hope we get Lebron so yo can see the light!

  • In reply to mdot1986:

Who believes anything written by Sam Smith or the NY Times? Both are notorious for starting rumors based on imaginary sources. Neither LeBron nor Bosh nor their agents are the type of guys to stupidly tip their hands.

  • In reply to mdot1986:

I hate multiple posts sorry. But one other thing. With us having all minimum guys and no MLE instead of a fractured three stars and a bunch of cripples non-team maybe we can get two decent guards somehow in trade for Deng and James Johnson(and possibly slightly lower are payroll/up our cap room for two full max's at the same time).

  • In reply to mdot1986:

My question is with July 1st be the frenzy we all expect it to be? Meaning, by next week Monday will we know whether or not Lebrong is a bull? Or is it more likely, this drags out into late July...

  • In reply to mdot1986:

Also, if they end up coming together can I copyright the

    "LEBOSH" t shirts?

  • In reply to Dmband:

    LEBOSH, Nice

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Another thing is I'm hearing all these arranged meetings like new Jersey is meeting with Bosh and Wade together? And Joe Johnson with the Knicks. But I'm not hearing anything about the Bulls??

This could be rumors, but still sounds like other teams are making their moves first/being more aggressive.

My thought now is this. What if LeBron says to himself look do i want to sign with someone like the Bulls first, and then see who else we attract, or is that a gamble that leaves me hanging in the wind? Would it be better to see who lands who, and then I'll really know who the best team is, and who to sign with?

So does Lebron choose plan A, and decide first, or does he hang back, and see which team does the best job of landing the big talent, and then go with them?

What concerns me is that if this is the case, and these other teams are being more aggressive in their pursuits, and Bosh sounds like he wants to join Wade in Miami, then is Joe Johnson enough to trun him towards the Bulls, and what if we don't get Joe Johnson either?

It just concerns me because other teams are going after these guys(New York Johnson, New Jersey Wade and Bosh, and Wade/Miami recruiting Bosh). And what are the Bulls doing??

I don't know. I'm not sure I'm liking this at all. Unless others will wait to see where Lebron goes, and then follow him, I think we could be in big trouble. You think about Prohkorov a Billionaire/smart mother, Riley's cunning who brought in Shaq for Wade, and then Gar/Pax who lucked into Rose. Otherwise they've made some decent moves, but what record of brilliance/performance compared to these other guys do they really have?

Unless LeBron plans on signing first, and being the draw for other guys, again I'm very concerned. And what if even if he thinks things will go that way, what if other guys say F you, and start signing regardless of him??

I don't know. I just dont't like the aggressive/go getter puruits, which is exactly what free agents like, by other teams, and nothing from the Bulls. Yikes?!?!

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Don't be so paranoid. The Bulls are serious...they have done things so far this summer that they haven't done before. They were aggressive with the Thibs hire. They were aggressive on the Hinrich trade basically unloading him for nothing(so it seems) for cap space. They have never shown so much thought and sensibility as far a positioning themselves to score big. Honestly, I don't think they would have made these moves unless they already have an idea they will be getting one of the "big fish." Think about it when have they handled the off-season so brilliantly? It will come will come...

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Now Sam Smith is wondering if Wade will after all consider the Bulls. He's supposing L.A. does pull off the that sign and trade for Bosh(Bynum). Then Wade feels Miami's too thin even with Amare to attract LeBron. So he outdoes him(LeBron) by taking his place becoming the icon of the Eastern Conference with Amare/Boozer, Derrick Rose, Noah, and a loaded Bulls team. Or could the Bulls sign Wade and Lebron with a much better core then Miami's. Maybe Wade and LeBron could share the ball with Rose having to score less, and be truly a devestating facilitator since there will be no more doubles. He could kill in that role.

Think about that. Wade and LeBron sharing the ball with plenty of points to be had for both. Then Noah boarding and Rose just detroying teams in the assist/penetration department with now ay teams can double him. I really think Taj could be our starting PF in that situation. And like I said he got jobbed all to hell last year on foul calls. He could be an excellent defender under Thibs with the license/respect of a Kendrick Perkins surrounded by the clout of Wade/LeBron. I just hope Gar/Pax get their asses moving on recon, and find out/put together a combination that will attract two of the max studs.

I still wonder without an MLE and only Rose what the Bulls are going to do about the guard situation. Will they trade try to trade Deng for some legit guard help which would be their most urgent need, and put whoever they can into the SF spot if it's not Lebron?

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

I wouldn't put much stock in Sam Smith...his ideas always seem so far fetched! But about the cap issue, I think we would be involved in a S&T for one of our FA so we would have some cap room to work with.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Interesting because I have almost been rooting for the Lakers to get Bosh in that sign and trade. I think that would make the Bulls the only option for Lebron, Wade and just about anybody else that wants to have a shot at the Lakers. Lebron could look for an S&T to Dallas, but why would he want to be in the same conference with the Lakers.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

If I'm LBJ, I would have a serious look at the guy who designed a defense to stop him. Coach Tibbs (Thibideaux) has to be licking his chops to talk with Bron. I know I would. and tell him why if DRose, Bosh, Noah, even JJohnson and him were to play defense, that they will own the East and the league for years! Boston is on their way down. Orlando is on dimisional, Clevland is done without LeBron. Miami only has Wade. In the West, there are only 2 legitimate threats OKC and the Lakers. Somehow the Clippers even when healthy will self destruct. Offensively, they will have no peer in the East. So multiple trips to the final in in view with that roster. Can you imagine the Bulls & Lakers in next years finals?

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

All of a sudden, I'm just not convinced Wade stays with Miami.

I'll tell you one thing you give Pat Riley Derrick Rose, Noah, Taj, Deng(?), and Thibs and he'd get at least one stud from this list: Lebron, Bosh, or Wade. Putting aside the second guy/two guys, I'm just talking about one of the ultra studs. We get any one of those threes then Gar/Pax have gotten the job done. If they get LeBron or Wade then they are gold in my book for life.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Relax. Did you hear any rumors of Hinrich going to Washington?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Another one for the record: I hope I'm overly pessimistic and wrong on all counts (minus Lebron, I don't want him. I'm from Ohio and want him to stay in Cleveland. Being from Ohio, I'd have a very hard time rooting for him in a Bulls jersey, though eventually I'd get over it I'm sure).

  • In reply to MrHappy:

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    Stephen A. Smith - stephenasmith
"I just reported on my show that LeBron James is heading to S. Beach -- with Chris Bosh -- to team with Dwayne Wade and Pat Riley. Here's the about 2 hours ago via UberTwitter"

  • In reply to MrHappy:

and now this... If he is concerned about him and Rose coexisting, noway could he coexist with Wade which contradicts SASmiths tweet. Who knows.

  • I heard Joe Johnson is gonna get the Max from ATL. I dont know if this is the best idea but its their funeral.

I figure it would be smarter to just start Crawford and fill out the team in other ways as well.
