Full LeBron transcript doesn't bode well for Cleveland

The first leak discussing Cleveland having an edge didn't really do justice to what LeBron was really saying.   He did say Cleveland has an edge, but some of the other quotes made it sound like he's out the door.

Check out the realgm recap since the other online one appears gone:

Full transcript now available here (courtesy of MrHappy)

Some telling quotes:

KING: So can we say it will not be a poor team, a team of players who
you do not calculate would be there to win championships, because you
can't play forever?

JAMES: No, I cannot play forever. And that
is absolutely right. But the team that I go to or -- or, you know,
whatever the case may be, will have an opportunity to win championships
in multiple years and not just because of LeBron James.

KING: So it has to be a good team?

JAMES: Absolutely.

First, notice htat he first says "the team that I go to" which implies he's already made up his mind that he's leaving.  It could simply be because it's difficult to immediately come up with a way to refer to everyone he could go to including staying with the Cavs, but the gut response there was "going".

Also, he discusses needing to go to a good team to win, but not just because he's there.  He wants to play with legitimate talent, and he wants to win multiple titles not just sneak in one title.

Ultimatley, by far, the best scenario he could end up in is if he signs with Chicago and then the Bulls S&T for Chris Bosh.   That team, if healthy, is the favorite to win the title for the next five seasons barring some other kind of emergence of a new megastar or some other unforeseen coalescing of superpowers.

  • I agree. That's what I felt after reading through it. The MJ factor plays a major role in his thinking. It is following in his footsteps and playing with the same team colors as MJ probably will weigh on his decision a "little" bit plus the lure of Noah/Rose. But it all depends on what kind of other things LeBron/his team think they will get from Miami/NY/Cavs. But beware of Wade/Riley. They might draw him to Miami.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

maybe its me but I just do not see him going to Miami to help Wade win another championship. Plus he said he wants to win more than one and I don't see him taking a back seat to wade for a number of years. Chicago should be his obvious choice cause of the young and talented core of the team. The Bulls need a shooting guard which they can probably get away with if Lebron does sign with the Bulls and they need a low post scorer which Bosh would fill that void. This team could be very scary with Rose at the point, bring in a descent shooting guard, Lebron at small forward, Bosh at power forward, and Noah at center. And if they can keep Deng then Lebron can play shooting guard. That would be one hell of a starting line up. Lets hope Lebron and Bosh are seeing the same thing.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Yeah say he goes to Miami and wins 4 championships. Well, Wade will have 5 which makes Lebron 2nd best in this era of bball.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

Lol, Doug I like how you used what I copy and pasted from the transcript on realgm. They took it down real quick. Hopefully they dont try to arrest me.lol

I think when Lebron said he wants to win mutiple championships not because of Lebron, that was aimed at the Bulls. What other team with capspace is one good player away, who is not Lebron James Calibur, from being a real threat in the league. The Bulls easy.

I think its bad for the knicks since without Lebron having monster seasons they wont do anything. Even with Bosh, I see alot of 2nd round to East Conf finals exits.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

    Doug,

Why isnt LA Clippers a serious contender in anyones eyes. On paper they are a better team than us but no ESPN Analyst or reporter seems to think he has a real chance of going there. Is it because of the organizations history, Kobe on the Lakers in LA, or maybe the fact that him switching conferences seems like the least likely route he would go. Im not sure but I would like your thoughts on it.

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

Worst owner in professional sports. People talk about Reinsdorf being all about the bottom line, but he's nothing compared to Sterling. James couldn't sign there with any confidence that Sterling would try to keep a competitive team around him every year. Besides, even if he went there and had some success, the odds of overcoming the Lakers to be LA's team are almost nil.

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

I wouldn't say it doesn't bode well for Cleveland but.. after reading this interview it just makes me think everything is up for grabs and anything can happen. I'm going to try to temper my LeBron hysteria. I feel like LeBron just pushed the reset button on all this rumors.

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

Yeah, Biggestbullsfan did a great job pulling out the juicy parts of the transcript on realgm (I just started an account a week ago). Throughout, he seems to give clues that he's looking hard at Chicago.

One of the exciting things about this upcoming season is that LeBron or not, Derrick Rose is set to explode. This is year 3 and that's when a lot of superstars reach their career avg stats. If you look at stars like CP3, D-Will, Brandon Roy, even D-Wade and LeBron they all made improvements between their rookie and sophomore years. But their third year numbers compared to their rookie season is significant. That's where they hit their consistency as a superstar. Don't think this is lost on a guy like LeBron who made the leap himself improving to 31.4 ppg, 6.6 apg, 7.0 rpg and 1.6 stls. Even with a bum ankle to start the season, Derrick raised his scoring avg by 4 pts and maintained his assist avg as the primary weapon on his team. Imagine what he can with more consistent talent around him.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

That's what I'm saying. If we miss on Lebron, Bosh and Wade we will still land someone who will improve our team. I have faith that Rose and Noah will not allow this team to regress.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

I feel the same way and agree with RobD. Personally, If we were led t a championship without Lebron and any huge FA but Rose as our MVP, I would be more excited and pleased. But a Championship is all the same. Even just adding a Boozer and a shooter will make us that much better. I have no clue how good Rose will be but if he ever gets that 3 point shot, its a wrap for the league.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

    THANK YOU:

People (Doug Thonus, KC Johnson and Sam Smith) just don't appreciate tips anymore.

Who emailed who about the FULL TRANSCRIPT?

No thank you means, no more tips!!!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

He actually mentioned you on the previous page. But they took down the full transcript. I took out key things beforehand tho.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Ya i also took a look at the script...(thanks for posting it happy)

LeBron also talks about how Rondo was the reason why they lost to the Celtics...He knows no one on Cleveland can guard great PG's. Cleveland couldnt cover Rose and they couldnt cover Rondo. Makes me think LeBron likes what he see's from great PG's.

Another section i read LeBron talks about the Bulls. Just reading what he was saying about us, just makes me think he is really interested. He just seemed passionaite about the Bulls. And just think about this for a second...your favorite team as a kid usaul ends up your favorite team as a adult. IMO, I think LeBron really wants to suit up in a Bulls uni.

  • In reply to Csharp:

yeah and besides the core of our team there are a lot of reasons for Lebron to come. Close to home, favorite team as a child, favorite player in MJ, huge city, loyal fans, our starting lineup anthem is by far the best in the league(although I'm not a big fan of the newer version) and Obama's approval which I think has a HUGE impact on young athletes.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Two words strike me after LeBron's latest comments: Get Bosh!

Lebron says he and Bosh together or he and Wade together would make a lot of teams "much better."

If Miami can get Toronto to do a sign and trade for Bosh(meaning the Raps take Beasley) then Riley can offer Wade and Bosh to LeBron, and I think that likely could get it done with the kicker being that Riley coaches.

I still think the very often injured Bynum and extreme headcase in Beasley could be rejected, and leave Chicago with a real sporting chance.

Bottom line: Chicago is clearly in Lebron's own words going to have to supply Bosh to get him in a Bulls uni.

So to me the conversation needs to now be what exactly would be the best/most likely package Toronto would desire given their roster and salary structure? With the Bulls under the cap salaries don't have to match. So the Raptors could dump salary with a Bosh for Taj and our first, the Charlotte(lotto) first, and possibly one or two other picks we obtain for them. Also if they have any interest in Asik as a center is a big need for them. Or do they want to dump the terrible chemistry signing of Turkoglu who's saying he wants out? Deng's out years are awful, but Hinrich after next season becomes a sizable/desirable $8 Mil expiring contract. And with the savings two or three quality draft picks provides over more costly vet contracts does take the sting out of Deng's deal who is a valuable player with the salary situation rectified.

If the Bulls take on salary/a few more million from Toronto and send them picks they like plus a possible future lotto and Taj/all rookie with Deng, it's possible that deal could get done. We'd still have extra salary dollars, but would have exchanged Deng's salary for much of that trade minus the extra three or four million.

In essence we could take on an extra player($4 or 5 Mil), but be rid of Deng's contract. Then maybe someone can see the value in Hinrich's expiring in mid season 2011/12.

Even if some of these scenarios like trading Deng's contract don't work for you, there are without doubt a lot of options out there to land Bosh, and then Lebron is a very legit reality coming to the Bulls.

Finally, you just wonder on the coaching front regardless of what free agents think, why would the Bulls show an interest in Thibedau, and then not talk with him unless they have a "silent partner" who has indicated they will coach the Bulls if we get Bosh and LeBron? And who would that person be?

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

    CHRIS BOSH:

Let's just get Chris Bosh and go from there.

Contratry to what the so-called experts think (Doug Thonus, KC Johnson and Sam Smith), it's better to do a S&T for Chris Bosh first, then to try and get him in a S&T after landing LBJ or DWADE.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I read the transcript before they took it down so thanks for the info Happy. He does compliment Rondo as being the glue to the team even with three all stars and he says that he wants to win multiple championships and that money is not his main goal and that he does not want to win a championship just because of himself. He wants to be with a team that he can grow with and possibly dominate the league for some years to come. I still don't think Wade signs with the Bulls and if Lebron is smart he would not sign with Miami cause he would be definitely be playing second fiddle to Wade for a number of years and I just do not see him doing that. I feel that Bosh will probably be the first player on the Bulls radar just in case Lebron softens and resigns with Cleveland or have some other crazy idea to join Wade or go play savior to NY or NJ. Lets just hope we are not reading into all of this the wrong way.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Ya i also think a package of

Deng, Taj, Our 1st round pick and Charlottes 1st round pick could get it done

Now that Turkoglu wants out that opens up the SF spot there for Deng possibly. Beasley sucks...Bynum is all they can really offer, and hes injured all the time. Deng solid 17ppg, Taj All Rookie 1st Team, Bulls #17 OR a Future pick, plus Charlottes 1st round pick, Likely mid 1st, is a pretty good deal for Toronto.

They could end up looking like this...

    Calderon, Jack
    DeRozan, Bulls #17 pick
    Deng
Greg Monroe Raptors #9 pick i think?, Taj Gibson
Bargnani, Next year Charlottes pick Mid 1st

Plus whomever they get for Hedo. Then next year, Toronto will probably get another solid draft pick and then also Charlottes pick. They can really improve their team if they trade with us and not just lose Bosh for nothing.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

I think everyone is smoking something in the air! The Cavs are his team, his town, his OWN FUTURE LEGACY to write. If he leaves then he truly will NEVER BE ABLE TO GO HOME AGAIN! He would be in a "Witness Protection" (lol)mode the rest of his life in NE Ohio. He would not be able to handle that no matter how many championships here could win. Do not be fooled by the smokescreens either wya.

  • In reply to elr5409:

You sound like a fool. you think Kobe cares about going home to Philly, he will go if he wants and nothing will happen. Same thing with Paul Pierce who is from L.A. he will go home when he wants so stop trying act like he wont be able to come back to Akron or Cleveland. Best thing for him to do is to leave Cleveland

  • In reply to elr5409:

Another thing i think us Bulls fans should start thinking about is "if" we do sign LeBron....Any one of the big guys out there will work imo. You can try going after D Lee,Boozer,Amare,Bosh, Jefferson, Troy Murphy etc...

Bosh is probably the best 1...but i deff. wouldnt throw out the possibility of us going after any one of them.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Don't count out DWADE just yet. That's all I'm saying.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

You're right that is all that you are/keep saying.

    LBJ TO CHICAGO BILLBOARD:

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/bulls-fans-wooing-lebron-james-with-billboard.html

That's just a little fanatical. Plus, I guess they want to put one up in Akron too.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I think that sign should include Bosh and should have SIX blank championship slots cause that's what it'd be if we got those two guys! Look out East- if Cleveland can win 60 with their crap lineup- imagine THAT team- I hope LBJ and CB are!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    RUMOR HAS IT:

Tom Thibodeau is getting interviewed by Paxson and Forman tonight.

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/bulls-fly-to-la-to-interview-thibodeau.html

    * I find it hard to believe that Rivers or Ainge would let that happen on the eve of the Finals.

  • In reply to Csharp:

HAHAHA love that sign! WOOOO!!!! I wonder if thats the one sendLeBrontoChicago.com has been trying to put there!?!
