Eddy Curry wants to revive career with LeBron in Chicago (or Cleveland)

Per the New York Daily News:

According to a source close to Curry, the Knicks' veteran center met with James in Ohio
to discuss Curry's future, which may or may not include having LeBron
as a teammate. The conversation, the source said, "had nothing to do
with Eddy trying to recruit LeBron to New York."

In fact, Curry may have been recruiting himself to join James either in Cleveland or Chicago.
Curry is entering the final year of his contract and has told close
friends he'd welcome a buyout from the Knicks in order to become a free

Curry has talked about returning to his hometown of
Chicago to restart his career. The Bulls are one of several teams with
salary cap room to sign James, who is expected to visit New York, New Jersey and Chicago when he becomes a free agent on July 1.

I've never been such an Eddy Curry fan as I am right now.

Certainly LeBron isn't going to go somewhere because Eddy Curry is there, but the fact that he's working out with Curry and Curry hates NY and wants out and Curry would consider coming back to Chicago can't hurt can it?

I know I'm a fan of LeBron hanging out with a guy hating on the Knicks who's got fonder memories of Chicago.

The article goes on to state that NY isn't likely to grant a buyout due to his value as an expiring and because they think he can contribute on the floor despite a complete refusal to play him previously.

  • I'd also have to wonder why the Knicks would buyout a guy if they know his release would in any small way assist the competition to sign LeBron.

  • ha!

  • Thanks, but no thanks.

  • Curry is part of LeBron's entourage now!! I hope this doesn't get ugly like LeBron wanting all his friends on the team and becoming the behind-the-scenes GM.
Maybe Curry is smart and is trying to latch on to LeBron so that he can make some money to repay all his debts.

  • Ive always been a fan of Curry...an if he could ever get his butt back into shape..i wouldnt mind him coming here. Unless Curry and LeBron are good friends i dont think LeBron really takes this as anything. Last month Curry and LeBron talked on the phone too. So who knows. If he got back into shape..i wouldnt mind taking him back....he could be a solid back up center for us. And he bang downlow with the Bynums and Gasols. But kudos for Curry if he is trying to help us out. Afterall, we did help him out when he had that heartbeat problem....we agreed on a trade that help both Curry and us out.

Another thing is...i heard Curry has been working out for a while now...so who knows...maybe he is in shape.

  • Or...for all we know....he could be trying to sell LeBron his house in Chicago...i think its still for sale or something lol

  • Does this mean Curry is willing to take that DNA test he refused, that caused him to get traded? With all the negativity surrounding Curry and his actions, I dont see this as a plus, I'd rather have Chandler back to be honest.

  • FYI:

  • Curry...no thanks.

  • If he's healthy I would rather Curry b/c of his size. Chandler is injury prone and is skinny. A healthy Curry matches up well the Howards, Bynums, and Gasols.

  • Curry? If he's in shape and can be had a realistic salary he could be a boon to a team needing inside scoring. I read an (I can't remember where) where the author basically said many scouts and teams miss out on players that can help their teams because they concentrate on what he can't do as opposed to what he can do. Many players have limited all-around skill sets. But when placed in the right situation, the 1 or 2 things they do well can be a huge benefit. It's all about the team knowing how to put them in situations that take advantage of their positives and downplay their negatives.

  • Doug, you said you think there's no way Cleveland does a sign and trade for Lebron correct? Ric Bucher a.k.a NBA schill is hyping Cleveland's excellent "package" of Jamison, Williams, and Hickson for Bosh, and then keeping Lebron.

Meanwhile a lot of "experts" are saying that Lebron will certainly take a week or more for all the teams he's interested in to get all their other free agent/draft pick pieces in place before he makes a decision(If he doesn't do a sign and trade).

So if the Bulls aren't successful in landing Bosh(get beat out by Miami, Portland, Orlando, whoever) they then go after Amare or Boozer, and then if they land one of them just wait and hope Lebron decides to come here? Or does maybe LeBron tell the Bulls "through channels" this guy(Amare) or that guy(Boozer) will get it done? And then we have to take that guy, and hope he's good to his word?

Maybe the best karma/situation to attract LeBron is just being decisive, and go after the guy(s) who the Bulls think is the best player talent and attitude wise. Then hopefully James respects that, and comes on board.

There are so many variables to this. It's hard for me to believe two anal, very conservative/deliberate operators like Pax and Gar are going to be able to sort through all these unpredictable developments, and formulate the winning moves/strategy on the fly. I guess my realistic scenario, knowing Chicago, would be we don't win the Lebron competition(L.A., Cleveland getting Bosh, Miami/Riley pulling some conniving stunt) end up with the "King."

Instead, we have to settle for Boozer, and perhaps manage to dump Hinrich or Deng's salary to clear room for a secondary F.A. Then with a somewhat deep draft talent pool we manage to get a pick or keep are own, and add another good young player in Jones, Udoh, Babbitt, or Elliot Williams.

Bottom line: like Doug says I'm going in with no expectations. If we get Amare or Bosh I'll be very, very pleased. If we get LeBron and whoever else I'll be freaking out. If we get anyone else I'll say, "Yeah, this is more like what I expected."

  • I have confidence the bulls will do something, whether they get James and Bosh or neither I dont know, but there's too much talent out there thats available for them to strike out on.

  • This is the time Paxson shows his GM skills. Whatever his faults are...he has planned well and if he can somehow pull off two FA spaces before July 1st...and keep Noah/Deng/Rose/Taj...the momentum towards the Bulls will build big time for Bosh/LeBron.
Can we free up space for another max contract by getting rid of Hinrich and JJ?

  • The Bulls should not be too focused on Lebron,I say go after Bosh and not with a max contract, Joe Johnson. If the Bulls can not trade the #17 pick then they should use the pick on a shooting guard. Even if the Bulls don't land Lebron, a starting five of ROSE, JOHNSON, DENG, BOSH and NOAH would be a hell of a starting five with Taj if he is not traded along with Hinrich off the bench. I feel like the Bulls know something since they are trying to trade the pick. Why else would they take the chance of losing Deng and Hinrich. They know something.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Do we know for sure they are trying to trade the pick?

  • In reply to Reese1:

Multiple reports are stating that the bulls are shopping the picks Hinrich and or Deng.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Yes they are trying to trade the pick along with either Deng or Hinrich to create more cap space but I don't think too many teams are trying to help the Bulls in possibly landing Lebron.

  • In reply to Reese1:

Have you guys seen the rumors of the Bulls plan of trading for Al Jefferson and signing Joe Johnson?!

  • In reply to joeacook3:

  • In reply to joeacook3:

    Ya +2 on that no

If you have a chance at getting LeBron James you do it. And the Bulls have a GREAT chance of landing him. Joe Johnson and Al Jefferson arnt more then a backup plan right now. Focus is on LeBron right now. But i do like the idea of the Bulls looking for trades...See what it would take to land a Joe Johnson, Bosh, Boozer,or Amare.

  • In reply to joeacook3:

I think draft night will be relatively quite. We might make a small trade with our draft pick but im not expecting anything big until we can talk with LeBron first.

  • In reply to joeacook3:

I believe Eddy Curry just picked up his option for 2010-2011.

  • In reply to joeacook3:

He did pick up his option.

I can't see how he gets traded. Why would anyone want his LAZY ASS?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Because he'll play hard for a long contract.

If he gets bought out, and we were to sign him for a one or two year contract near the minimum, he'll either work his ass off to prove himself worthy of a better contract, or he'll sit on our bench and contribute a few fouls once in awhile and contribute situationally. Either way, that sort of contract won't kill us.

I wouldn't want to be the team that signs him to his next contract, though.

I'm kind of indifferent on the matter, honestly. But it is good that he's in Lebron's ear talking badly about NY and well about us.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Wow Corey Maggette just got traded to the Bucks...Now if he can get traded with his horrible contract then i know somebody will take Deng and his contract....

  • In reply to joeacook3:

I would have traded Deng for Maggette. Better contract and a better shooter.

  • In reply to BigWay:

He gets to the basket and line better, that's all he has on Deng. Deng has much better range, and I don't think Maggette is the best locker room guy. His defense isn't near Deng's, either.

  • In reply to BigWay:

If he can be traded to free up cap room...he's gone trust that.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Ship has Sailed, Boat getting Smaller

I agree with someone who said Eddie Curry's ship has sailed. He's way overdue on behavior changes to resolve his marginal career and his bad personal habits (over extended with loans historically). A friend who knows Eddie in a business setting said he's a nice guy.

But Eddie wants to keep getting his over inflated $11 million per year (?). It's not about Eddie giving good value to any team, it's about Eddie making money.

Eddie probably is beginning to understand that his NYC gravy train salary is ending in the very near future and would like to extend it. Here's hoping the Bulls don't add Eddie Curry to their team during this Summer of LeBron.

Really, best wishes to Eddie. I just don't need him here as a Chicago Bull.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I still believe that either Deng or Hinrich can be traded. The Bulls realize they need to have a little more flexibility going into free agency. Getting that cap space will be a good move. It will make us far less dependant on a sign and trade.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Portland is looking for an extra 1st Round pick.

Maybe the Bulls should offer up #17 for Rudy Fernandez?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

this is the dumbest story I've ever read.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

We should trade Deng for Tayshaun Prince + fillers (Jason Maxiell)

  • In reply to MrHappy:

james johnson & 17th pick for rudy
loul deng & future pick(not bobcats) for pietrus & gortat..
trade gortat, hinrich, asik,& bobcats pick for bosh

    pietrus(athletic,spaces the floor,and defend)

rudy(shooter who can give you 13-15 off the bench)
taj(can give you 9&6 off the bench)
    miller(another spacer)4&4
    & maybe a rasual butler
or bring back acie law(another shooter)

    james johnson-cant shoot
    rudy-can shoot
    loul deng-cant shoot
    pietrus-can shoot

we basically space the floor and get more athletic without even adding two top ten players yet or incase..

july 1st should be our chris bosh day..
get chris bosh and lebron walks to chicago & quits his tour..

  • In reply to Yunqn:

If I had to bet, I say the first thing that TT does is tell Paxson that he does not want to trade Hinrich, I am sure that he loves his D.

  • In reply to Yunqn:

YunQn, Rudy is a shooter really? did you watch Portland versus the no defense suns? its not like Rudy shot that well, Deng was against a stiffer and tighter defense and was still able to score. I wouldnt mind getting Rudy but at the right price or trade. Yeah it will be interesting with Hinrich, i thought he was gone but with the new coach who knows.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

the point is who fits better w. the team

    rudy has range.. deng doesnt..
our biggest problems last year was spacing & injuries..
do you hope deng doesnt get hurt ever again ?
and do you keep a guy who hurts your spacing..
if rose's game is goina get to the next level its goina have to be on spacing and a bigman to roll with..

rondo, nash, williams, paul & kidd all have a threat of a pf and spacing around them..
people forget rose didnt have that and still ran threw the league.. if rose had two legit shooters and a scoring bigman to roll with you telling me rose couldnt avg 23 & 10 this season?

rose plays with hinrich who goes through droughts and everyone knows that until the season's over and want to cover up his shooting woos .. deng who doesnt want to take the three but rather shoot contested shots all day.. lets be honest if lebron came we cant win 3 or more titles with this club like everyones saying.. lets be realistic for once people its not like we went to the conference finals..we still need to make this team fit..which we havent..
rose is goina need spacing and a man down low who can shoot and go inside..& chris bosh & rudy can do that..
deng is not a shooter lets be honest..
    he's a hard working player.. that's it..
lets be realistic..he has no strengths he just plays hard..be honest people because now that the seasons over we act like luol did a great job and is perfect for our future..he isnt good for our future.. rose is .. luol will get hurt again sometime and cant shoot or create for himself if needed..
plus if lebron came luol is gone anyway..
so getting Fernandez who could score 10-14 off the bench to be a sixth man with a cheaper contract and more spacing ability than deng could ever bring..you telling me that because a series against phx rudy isnt talented anymore? especially if im labeling him as our sixth man?

be honest because if rose is goina get to the next or extreme level without lebron he's goina need everything that his skillset needs to be around him..and right now deng is still a problem & the front office doesnt want to act like he isnt..he maybe not that big of a deal now but watch when ya start complaining again.. we dont have spacing..

    a shooter(defender)
    a shooter(defender)

and three players off the bench..

a coach with pace or defense ..and we got that..(thibs)

rose cant continue to attack a crowed paint and continue to get no calls..imagine if he had spacing and gotten calls..
luol doesnt bring a threat of a true shooter..
im not suggesting a allstar.. but this team still isnt built around roses strength still to this day..

noah is perfect..thibs is perfect..bosh would be perfect..
two true shooters would be perfect and a scoring bench would be perfect for any team..
every star guard has shooters.. and derrick doesnt..
    look around

i dont want to hear derrick isnt elite yet..
because if he would had shooters and a big..
derrick would be mvp type just this year and we wouldve won 50 like how we were suppose to baring the injuries..
derrick is a top 15 player even without a team that fits..
so imagine if he finally had one? thats my point.. go for what fits.. we honestly dont have a making of a dynasty like everyone is saying with just lebron.. now with bron and bosh thats different.. but my point is if lebron comes or not we need shooting.. & luol deng doesnt bring that especially playing as a wing with a slashing point..

    why doesnt everyone see that?
we would still have a congested paint next year if luol stays.. i dont want to hear hes getting better at shooting and give him time..
we cant take baby steps with a overpaid player anymore and make excuses..
i just dont want to hear he can shoot better in the corner -_-.. that isnt goina cut it.. lets be honest for once..

this team still doesnt fit around our best player..
& deng is one of the main reasons for that because he cant shoot or push the ball.. he's a half court player.. on a face paced team that needs shooting..

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

I'd still get rid of Hinrich over Deng, YUn you still have images of VDN coaching instead of what Deng did for Skiles, Yes Deng was one of the best mid range "Shooters" that year plus he is a great slasher. Del Negro's 2 offensive sets didnt display that. Plus if you listened to the coach he wants to work on Dengs' 3 point shot so its not like he cant start shooting better. I dont mind Rudy but to say he's better than Deng is ridiculious, the only thing Rudy has on his is a cheaper contract.

  • In reply to Snypershawn:

mid range isnt goina free the paint.. shooting long and shooting short is different.. when your wingman or guards cant stretch the floor your paint gets crowed.. a bigman is suppose to stretch the court to a mid range.. not your samll foward..

plus im not saying rudy is better.. neva did

im talking about being put in situations.. deng cant play against the fours on a night basis so him and lebron cant play together.. if rose so called cant how will deng?

plus i put rudy in as a sixth man who can shoot a three and is clutch if you havent noticed.. doesnt everyone complain about deng dissapearing and shooting with someone in his face all the time.. thibs cant fix everything..thats up to luol.. i cant see him stepping more up with a lesser oppurtunity now that hes goina be a 3rd or 4th option.. he isnt coming off the bench.. and he made it this season.. but what about next and the year after that.. if amare is a problem than what deng is? amare isnt injury prone.. his eye is his only problem and hes not 50 so no need to worry so much about that..deng is fragile and we know that..

  • In reply to joeacook3:

I am telling you watch what Minny does at 4. If Johnson is off the board(as is now rumored to be a possibility) they may be forced to take another big either Favors or Cousins.

Favors is a 4, Cousins a 5, either way they still need a 3 who can score consistently and have at least one too many power forwards(Love and Jefferson). Jeffersons value has never been lower(contract and knee). Love becomes a player the Bulls should target.

Deng for Love solves our power forward problem(gives us a legit 3 point threat) and gives us additional cap space, unless we have to take back another bad contract to make it happen.

Despite Doug's lack of belief, something is going to happen in Minny with these guys(Love and Jefferson),

The Bulls would be fools not to make the call.

  • In reply to BigWay:

I have not seen that much of Love but from what I have seen it doesn't look like he is too much of a big time player and these other big forwards would eat him alive.

  • Never been a fan of Curry, I think that he is dumber than a stone, and that is the primary reason that he cannot get in shape, has ruined his career, and is flat broke after making something north of $50 million.

I have no idea why Lebron would take any advice from a complete slug like Curry, and I really doubt that he has.

  • Unfortunately the only shape Curry is ever likely to be in is round.
