Bulls in play for Rudy Fernandez

Per David Aldridge:

The Portland Trail Blazers continue to have discussions with several
teams about reserve guard Rudy Fernandez, who has fallen out of favor
with Coach Nate McMillan and has been seeking a trade for almost a year.
The most serious suitors at the moment are the Toronto Raptors and
Houston Rockets, with Toronto offering its first-round pick, the 13th
pick overall, as part of a package.

Chicago and Washington have
also expressed interest in Fernandez, 25, who was acquired from Phoenix
in 2007 on Draft night and signed with Portland the following summer.
The Bulls would like to move their first-round pick, 17th overall, for
Fernandez. The Wizards offered guard Nick Young for Fernandez but were
turned down.

Toronto is offering up #13 in a package which would beat our offer of #17, but we're in play for Fernandez.   I hope something works out for the Bulls here as Fernandez would be an outstanding fit for what the Bulls need.

  • I have long wanted Fernandez in a Bulls uniform.. I think he'd fit well, whether it be as a starter or off the bench. I would be thrilled with getting him for the draft pick, but if we have to throw someone in.. I don't know who it would be..? It seems like Portland would have to add a player to the deal if we did as well. I wonder if they still like Hinrich?

  • How would this work capwise, though? Would we use capspace (after July 1) to make the deal? The only match we have is Taj, and that's not happening.

I'm all for adding Fernandez. I'm not sure I'm for spending our cap room on him.

I would be thrilled to get him, but I doubt I'd like what it would take to match Toronto with their #13. Really, only if Portland still likes Hinrich, which I doubt.

Considering he's disgruntled, and may not stay in the NBA, I wouldn't want to do much more than #17 for #22 and Rudy. I guess I'd give up JJ, but that's really my limit, all things considered.

the guy has all the tools to be a great player, but he's 25, cant guard a shadow, but is a phenomenal shooter, great ball handler, and good passer.

it's not like he lacks the quickness to guard 2s, he's just bad at it.

Rudy Fernandez, "The Great" Nick Young...I told you I had the pulse of the NBA.

Both those guys are available. I said that weeks ago.

Although, it's starting to look like Paul George could slip to the Bulls.

Im pretty positive someone good will fall to us...but if pretty much everyone is gone...i wouldnt mind trading our pick for Rudy. He doesnt play D very well...but hes a solid 3 pt shooter and a competitor.

  • In reply to muhammond:

Nick Young is a FA isnt he? We can probably sign him for dirt cheap.

I think George is gone by 17...Xavier has a better chance falling imo. We will see what happens!

  • The Great Nick Young can't even land Fudy...

  • In reply to WearShades:

    Rudy that is.
