WWW signs Thibodeau to Bulls to bring in James?

So the Bulls coaching search is slowly dragging along.  They're waiting to interview Tom Thibodeau, whom I think has to be considered the front runner right now given that they aren't interviewing anyone else and only Thibodeau, Rivers, and Jackson are guys they'd consider hiring that are still coaching.

Gar Forman canceled a trip to Boston to interview Thibodeau when the Celtics failed to close out the Magic during games 4 and 5.   The fact that Thibodeau was on the list puts him ahead of everyone else, who's yet to receive interviews.

Now let's have some fun letting our dreams run away with us.   So we know that World Wide Wes is the infamous power broker of the NBA and coaching agent.  Tom Thibodeau has signed on with WWW, and the Bulls seem to be the team most likely to hire Thibodeau this summer.

That in and of itself, isn't that meaningful.   Not every World Wide Wes client is going to get to coach LeBron James.   However, let's throw in the latest rumor that James isn't interested in influencing the Cavaliers head coaching search:

the person said James doesn't want his fingerprints on the Cavs' hire

Does LeBron James not want his fingerprints on the Cavs coaching hire if he's planning on staying in Cleveland?   That seems awfully difficult to believe doesn't it?

So what does all this mean:
1) LeBron is leaving the Cavaliers
2) Thibodeau has signed with LeBron's agency and would likely be looked at positively by his representation
3) Thibodeau is the leading candidate for the Chicago Bulls head coaching vacancy (as well as the Hornets vacancy)

I'm not saying...

Okay, I'm really not saying as this is a big stretch even for me, but it is interesting to think about.

  • I believe I wondered the same connection in another one of your posts a few days ago.

I still think Thibodeau goes to New Orleans.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    I agree

  • In reply to Daniel7123:

Really? You think he'll choose a franchise that can hardly afford to turn on the lights in their stadium over a team with not only some very good talent, but with cap room to buy more? A team that has consistently made more money than anyone else for the last couple decades?

Ok. I disagree, and I certainly hope you're wrong. Unless we can get Jackson in here, and maybe even then, Thibodeau is my top choice.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I think Thibodeau is the front runner for the Bulls. I think he'll get/take the job once he gets the interview. I think every coach would love to coach Cp3 but I don't think he'll wanna go to the West with a rebuilding Hornets organization, atleast while Phil and the Lakers are there....

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Ya i posted this on hoopshype.com today....and im thinking the same thing! I tell ya what....Thibideau names is becoming the hot name coach of the summer....Plus he knows all about defense...i read somewhere that he has been in the league for 18 years, and hes been on like 13-14 teams with a top 10 defenses. Im starting to think that this guy might be the one!

  • "1) LeBron is leaving the Bulls"

    did you mean the cavs?

  • You're never fast enough for an army of rabid fans equipped with ctrl-r.

  • Hey Doug,

How big of an issue would you make the whole Jordan thing to be to Lebron. I think every Bulls fan feel its irrelevent. Because if he plays basketball he will be compared to Jordan. But for some reason everyone outside of Chicago seems to think so. Even David Falk seems to think so. What are your thoughts?

  • In reply to 1096ballenf:

I think he makes his own legacy...i dont see anybody taking his MVPs away anytime soon...I say he wins the next 5 possibly. Plus if he does finish his career here...no one is going to remember him playing in Cleveland. Just like no 1 talks about Shaq in Orlando or KG in Minnesota. LeBron would be known as the next Great to play. MJ is a great, LeBron is the next great.

  • I am thinking Thibodeau might have an interest in the Nets also. He always has been an assistant coach and this is his chance to make some money. The Russian Owner might pay him a lot more than the Bulls.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

He'd pick the Bulls before the Nets imo. He is going to need a coaching staff too....i hear Pippen could be hired to be a assistant.

  • Bulls took way the f-ck too long last time hiring a coach. And then maed no bones aboutt the fact that they were ready to do the same g-damn thing this year. They'll be lucky if they get Thibeadu if that's who they "now" want.

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

We're in a bit of a different situation this time around, being the best job available and all.

  • In reply to msalivar:

Bulls shouldnt be in a rush unless they really like Thibideau. Thibideau might have a job here pretty soon, so they might have to act faster then usaul.

  • In reply to msalivar:

Pip would be a excellent assistant....he could help almost everybody on our team.

I agree...i like Byron Scott...and i think if we dont hire Thibideau, Scott will be our guy.

  • In reply to msalivar:

Tom Thibodeau prefers the Bulls' job. At least, that's what Yahoo Sports is saying.

  • In reply to msalivar:

If it leads to Lebron...I'M ALL FOR IT!! If we score Thibs w/o bron or bosh I would be letdown...but to me the coach is the first piece to the puzzle.

  • In reply to msalivar:

Could someone please tell me why the Bulls are dragging their feet interviewing Thibodeau? They are doing the same B.S. again with this trying to be secretive crap and they will end up not signing the coach that needs to be on the side line next year. I know they are cheap but come on, DAMN it has been 12 years of the same old B.S. and they need to pick up the pace. If they don't hire this guy then they had better have another big name in mind. Teams are desperate for a good coach and the Bulls management is being arrogant as usual with their hiring process. It's not like the Bulls have been winning for the past 12 years. They really need to get serious about this process.

  • In reply to msalivar:

    Hire Thibideau

    Hire Pippen as the assistant

Then the Bulls have a big market, great city, 2 studs in Rose and Noah, MAX money, Great supporting cast, decent draft pick, A good defensive coach, and a good defensive assistant coach in Pippen.

That has to look good for possible Free Agents

  • In reply to msalivar:

Reese1 ... there is an expression that goes 'paralysis by analysis' which seems to symbolize how Paxon and Forman operate. They overanalyze!!! They knew the minute they pried Vinny's hands for Paxon's neck or vice versa that they were going to fire Vinny at the end of the year! They should have had their backround checks done months ago and had their new hire done a week after Vinny was fired. As far as Thibideau is concerned ... how come New Orleans took the time to interview him already and the damn Bulls are waiting? Totally inept!! Get ready for the new head coach .. some 2010 version of Vinny!! Even if some free agent wanted to come to Chicago, Paxson and Foreman would find some way of dragging their feet and messing things up!

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Thibodeau may be a good choice but he would be a trainee and who will be his assistants? More low priced trainees!

Byron Scott would be a better choice!

  • In reply to MarkNorman:

Thibodeau would be good...Pippen could be an assistant next year...
