Kevin Garnett to LeBron: Loyalty hurts you

Kevin Garnett is doing his part in getting KG out of Cleveland, and he has a pretty interesting perspective as one of the league's super elite players on a team that could never get him enough help.

"Honestly, he's gonna have to make a decision on not just him, but
his family and his future," Garnett said when asked in his postgame
press conference what LeBron would have to deal with.

"Loyalty is something that hurts you at times because you can't get
youth back. I can honestly say that if I can go back and do my situation
over, knowing what I know now with this organization, I'd of done it a
little sooner.

They were discussing this on Mike and Mike in the morning on my brief train ride in, and in their discussion it made it sound like he echoed these thoughts to LeBron personally after the game, but it the realgm link makes it sound like his general thoughts in the post game press conference.

Honestly, who knows if LeBron even hears the post game press conference.

Still, KG's been through the same situation, and so his viewpoint should impact LeBron in a different way than many other people, and he's telling LeBron to get out of dodge.

Will it have an effect?   Who knows.   I think if Boston gets creamed by Orlando (which I expect), then LeBron has to feel even farther away.  Of course, maybe I'm radically underselling Boston since I had them potentially going out in round 1.   Maybe they did just save themselves for the playoffs and turn it on.

  • I'm guessing Chris Bosh heard those comments too.

Is it time to be GREEDY?

    PG - Rose
    SG - Wade
    SF - LBJ
    PF - Bosh
    C - Noah

Say good-bye to Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

I'd like to know how can you fit three max guys with the Bulls. Two I get, but three?

  • In reply to boogernights:

    *Garnett voice* ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE!!!

  • In reply to joeacook3:

Except this. The Bulls aren't getting 2 max free agents, let alone three.

  • In reply to boogernights:

KG is doing his part to get KG out of cleveland?

If we keep kirk and deng we would still be the best team in the league just by adding lebron IMO. But we have to move them or else the cap space we gain when their contracts expire will be eaten up by the Rose/Noah extensions.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Miami is the only team that could pull off the trifecta of landing LBJ, Wade and Bosh. It will be difficult even for Miami because Toronto has to want Beasely, or they have to salary dump Beasely and Bosh has to come to Miami by forfitting the 6th year and $30 million.

Even if the Bulls could S&T both Hinrich and Deng they don't have enough money to end up with 3 guys while keeping Rose and Noah.

I am guessing that even in Mr Happy's world, math is still math.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Greedy, for me is Lebron and anybody else.

  • In reply to BigWay:

    HYPOTHETICAL:

What if the Bulls traded Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich and a pick to Cleveland for LeBron James, then Taj Gibson, Omer Asik and James Johnson to Toronto for Chris Bosh, then signed Dwyane Wade away from Miami.

    PG - Rose
    SG - Wade
    SF - LBJ
    PF - Bosh
    C - Noah

It's time to get GREEDY and it's time for Big Jer to pay the LUXURY TAX.

If the Bulls trade for LBJ and Bosh, how can Wade not come too?

    It's all about WINNING!!!

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Taj + Omer + Johnson = nowhere near enough for Bosh. We dont have the pieces (salary cap wise) to make a trade for a 3rd max FA.

  • In reply to senrad:

Those are good pieces. Just as good as New York's or Houston's.

I get the feeling Bosh wants a BIG MARKET.

    Chicago makes sense.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

It doesn't matter what people want. It doesn't work mathematically with the salary cap. It is impossible. Has nothing to do with being cheap, it doesn't work under the collective bargaining agreement. We can sign one max guy, trade for another, but thats it. We can't do a third because we don't have any players left over who make enough to trade for a max deal.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    Doug,

You can have 3 guys making over 10 million on a team you know?

Check the the salaries of Boston and Los Angeles (Lakers).

  • In reply to MrHappy:

As I said before, I would rather wait for Carmelo Anthony.

    To Bulls: Carmelo Anthony
To Denver: Luol Deng, Omer Asik (or James Johnson) and Taj Gibson

    http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5518908

    * A draft pick might have to be thrown in as well.

I think Denver is getting old. Billups, Anderson and Martin are all over 30 and Nene is coming up on that number.

I wonder if Carmelo was listening to KG's comments last night? I could easily see him wanting out of Denver for the same reasons KG left Minnesota and Shaq left Orlando.

That trade would give Denver a nice young team to build on.

    PG - Lawson
    SG - Affalo
    SF - Deng
    PF - Gibson
    C - Asik or a #1 Draft Choice

Wouldn't Melo fit in better with Rose and Noah anyway, as compared to LBJ?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Everyone was hating on Taj at the beginning of the season and he showed everyone on this blog up. James Johnson was and is an ass clown that doesn't belong in the NBA (sorry doug). probobly VDN's worst decision in the playoffs was giving him any playing time.

Anyone talking about trading Taj is insane and doesn't really WATCH basketball. As a rookie, he has proven to be an indespensable asset to the bulls and part of a core we need to build around (rose, noah, gibson).

If I were Jerry: Lebron and Amare/Boozer. Game Over.

  • In reply to senrad:

How about Avery Johnson pimpin NJ as the desitnation for LBJ.

Could it be because he is heading there as their next Head Coach?

    I have to believe YES.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

KG is using the same arguement I used when I said the Bulls should try and trade for Carmelo Anthony in 2011, if they don't get DWADE or LBJ this year.

The only difference is I used the Shaq in Orlando as my example.

    Either one are valid arguements.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Personally, I would rather have MELO over LBJ.

    PG - Rose
    SG - Wade
    SF - Melo
    PF - Bosh
    C - Noah

I would LOVE to see that starting 5 suit up for the Bulls.

    * I realize BOTH lineups are LONG-SHOTS.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    FYI:

After listening to Avery Johnson basically DISS the Bulls on "Mike and Mike", there is NO WAY he is getting hired to replace VDN.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

Every time I hear Avery talk about the Bulls it sounds like he's bitter. Maybe he's mad that he's not even being considered for the best job available.

  • In reply to Dileg:

Avery Johnson is angling for NJ job because of the Russian owner. He will not make 8/10 mil/year in New Orleans/Chicago or anywhere else. He is selling that he developed Devin Harris and Rose will not work with LeBron and LeBron fits best in NJ so that the Russian owner will offer him a contract....Trying to make money because he never got a max contract during his playing time:-)

  • In reply to Dileg:

    1. The one thing about the playoffs in the NBA is for a team to win in the later rounds, the 2nd best/3rd best player on the team has to win a game or two for you. That's what the CAVS did not have. This is the advantage with the Bulls for LeBron and that's why I am scared of the Knicks/Miami for the LeBron sweepstakes.
Even MJ had Pippen who was dominant in a game or two when MJ could be kinda of a role player
    2. Loyalty definitely hurts at this stage for LeBron. He probably has a good 8/10 years in the NBA. He is a smart guy and he knows that winning is what matters to sell himself and his brand. If you look at a capitalistic point of view, China/India is where he can sell more shoes, make the NBA bigger and that is by winning and not by loyalty to the CAVS.

  • In reply to schaumburgfan:

This is going to be a long month 1/2.

  • I read that KC Johnson even likes Mo Cheeks as their guy.

  • I don't about that.

Boston and Los Angeles seem to have some heavy duty contracts.

  • I got caught up in the media hype.

I want either Wade and Bosh or Melo and Bosh.

  • I took a trip to fantasy-land this morning.

  • My trip to fantasy-land was fun.

    I highly recommend it.

  • #1 target: Chris Bosh (in a sign-and-trade)

He could lead to the Bulls getting either LBJ (2010), DWADE (2010) or MELO (2011).

  • In reply to MrHappy:

You've hit your quota. No more posting until Monday. You just keep repeating yourself. We get it. Seriously. We get it.

  • In reply to KenyattaWright:

    Pipe down or catch up.

  • Your welcome.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    you're

  • Hallelujah.

  • BREAKIING NEWS:

Mike Woodson is out as Head Coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

I wonder who their top target will be? Le me guss...John Calipari...haha.

  • Let me guess...John Calipari...haha.

It's even funnier the second time around.

  • can we have a limit on how many times someone can post please???? My IQ is dropping after every Mr Happy post I read....

  • Don't be jealous people. Just come up with your own thoughts.

  • THIS JUST IN:

The Bulls will be hosting some Draft Prospects on May 16th.

    http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/predraft_100516.html

Paul George is one of them.

  • Mr Happy really needs to be banned or have a 5 post minimum...seriously.

  • In reply to mdot1986:

    NEWSFLASH:

    That's good information above you.

  • In reply to mdot1986:

    Just an observation:
    1. It looks like the Nets are paying Avery Johnson, Bulls are paying Chris Broussard on ESPN...The next month seems to be made for ESPN

  • In reply to mdot1986:

    RUMOR HAS IT:

Mike Brown, LBJ's Head Coach, might be getting FIRED today.

I guess a Press Conference by the Cavs' owner is coming up this afternoon.

  • In reply to mdot1986:

If we get lebron we need to get phil jackson. : ) We also need to have Mayor Daley to LOBBY for LJ to come to chicago. 6 peat anyone?

  • In reply to mdot1986:

SI reports Mike Brown is fired; ESPN's Ric Bucher refutes that

  • In reply to mdot1986:

now its an even playing field with the bulls. But we have the upper hand! whoahahahahaha, whoahahahahahah, whohahahaha. We have rose they don't! whoahahahha

  • In reply to vinmotors:

The funny thing is that 1.7%, may not only provide the simple luxury of landing Rose, a miracle in itself, but it could very well be the deciding factor in the 2010 sweepstakes and result in a dynasty. If this happens, that to me, will be the defining moment. The Bulls may have lucked in to the greatest off-season score of this generation.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

Hell ya Garnett is sending him a message...he is saying forget loyalty, it screwed him over in Minnesota for all those years and now he is finally starting to win and hes in his mid 30's. LeBron is out of Cleveland and coming to Chicago. The Bulls could just keep our team together if we cant trade Deng or Kirk and wait until Kirks contract comes off the books. Then you have another 8-9 million dollars to spend with a great team already.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

Mike Brown will get the boot in a couple days...he is a terrible coach...only reason he won like he did was because of LeBron.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

Opray and Barrack need to call up LBJ....and Obama is a big Bulls fan...i bet he does call LeBron lol

  • In reply to vinmotors:

Someone in the bulls organization or in the media needs to get LBJ a box for the Hawks playoff game. Get him in the building to see a winning team and the way the fans get fired up in this city.

There's no harm in extending the invite...

    Thats not tampering...

Ps. see my previous quote a month ago about how Lebron wasnt going to win a championship this year, and how he is still not the best player in the NBA. Kobe is and will prove so with yet another championship.

That being said, Lebron as a bull would be awesome. Especially because I live down the street from the UC, it would help the surrounding area as well. With both teams playing well in that building it would be great.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

Cleveland has launched a video to woo back Lebron http://www.break.com/index/we-are-lebron-video.html , Miami has launched a site to retain Wade http://www.wewantwade.com/ we have http://sendlebrontochicago.com/. This going to be one crazy summer!

  • In reply to vinmotors:

    GUESS WHAT?

Remember my favorite college player, E'TWAUN MOORE, who I want the Bulls to draft in 2011?

I guess he was the ONLY under-classmen testing the NBA waters that the Bulls worked out.

It happened on May 5th. Good for him.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

If he came out this year, he wouldnt be drafted. Hes to small.

  • In reply to mdot1986:

nevermind- false info. Mike brown is still cavs coach.

  • In reply to vinmotors:

It might be a false report, but he still won't be their coach much longer.

  • I

  • I think Lebron wants to come to Chicago. After his long layoff he will see that Chicago is his best choice if he wants to win. It would also stroke his ego to know that he is the one that can bring championships back to Chicago...in the place that the best player EVER once played.

"Big Market" is overrated b/c as an MSNBC analyst mentioned the "big market" is China...you get there by winning rings!! That's why Kobe is more popular than Lebron and...his merchandise makes more $$...and Nike gave him the Hyperdunks and not Lebron. Kobe wins rings and that is why he gets paid. At 25 Lebron may figure that out and, if so, he will be in a Bulls jersey next year...wearing #6.
